Yeah he is right, but he is just playing it for the millions and millions of Latin americans that fanatically hate Argentines. In this case Mexicans that became oversensitive because the Pope expressed concern that Argentina was on fast track to “Mexicanization” (i.e narco war and narco state.)... Those comments offended not only Mexicans but the Ks also, who swiftly picked the phones and called the Vatican to have a chit chat with Francis...

After being photographed by Katina and crew no he complains he was being ”used by the politicians.... Sure old cunt... you are 78 yo, you get to be the Pope being that naive
Or the Ks showed their fangs or maybe you bid was on the losing side ??

oh pur-lease! Did you see how over-excited Cristina was when he was made Pope?
Begging an audience (nearly) every week?

She thought 'her turn' had arrived!

She thought that the World was going to start takinig her seriously now, as she had 'God' on Her Side!
She stupidly thought that she had the Pope in her Camp(ora), and now the World would listen to her...
She looked a fool. She was proven to be a fool when the world just laughed at her parochial niaviety...

Now he is safe from her threats and machinations, he ridicules his own nation.

Anyone care to comment on why?

After all, they were not friends when he was a Bishop in Argentina...

I think he is a lot smarter than her.

I have no doubt that to help remedy this flaw, the world community if asked will vote to nominate the British, the North Americans, the Australians, or other Anglos, as they are renowned for their exceedingly humble, demure, non-boasting nature.

Actually, I think you will find, that the Brits are known world-wide for their self-deprecrating sense of humour.
Where-as even the Argentine Pope thinks Argentines are a bunch of overly arrogant fools that do not understand the concept of 'hubris'.

Au contraire. The British are self-deprecating. We are rightly proud of what we are good at but we laugh at ourselves for what we are crap at. Also we readily admit what we did wrong in the past - and don't consider unpatriotic anyone who brings it up. Does that sound like Argentines?

In any case, these are all just stereotypes that do not apply to all individuals in the 2 nations - since clearly the Pope also has a good sense of national self-deprecation.

How could any right-minded world leader think it could appear right and proper to be meeting the Pope and handing him propaganda material with the intent of getting him to take on Argentina's cause on the international stage.

@1. Just goes to show. Isn't the pope supposed to be the vicar of Christ on Earth? Leaving aside considerations such as whether a 'God' or 'Christ' exist, shouldn't this 'God' or 'Christ' be objecting to the rival 'Allah'? Is 'Allah' another word for 'Satan'? Certainly seems to be keen on killing, raping, thieving, warring, naughties with kiddies. In the good old ancient days, priests in various cultures used to sacrifice children. Did they point the way for Catholic priests and shag them first?

But let's get back to 'pop'. The word is supposed to mean 'father'. Paedo father?

Sorry, 'vicar of Christ'. And the evidence of Christ or 'God' selecting him is....?
Thought he was selected by other humans. Individuals who habitually parade around wearing dresses. Who's figured out how much dosh the (Catholic) church has salted away? At least they are headed for Hell. Comments about eyes of needles and rich men. And still they wander around with collection bowls. It used to be plates, but they couldn't get enough in.

“Argentines are non humble, but rather vain and arrogant” said an argie churchman. Doesn't this properly display argie vanity and arrogance? If he wasn't vain and arrogant, he wouldn't have taken the post. And he gets paid what? Human concerns. Somewhere to live. Heating. Lighting. Food. Cooking. Amusement. Which of these is he concerned about?

A typical argie chancer and scam artist throwing out a brief comment designed to show that he's 'different'. No he's not. If he was what he suggests he is, he would tell argieland to be honest. He would seek Kirchner's removal. He would ask permission to visit the free people of the Falkland Islands. He would give church funds to Falklands defence.

    Just another argie bullshitter.

Paul, the article you quote is almost from the last century. It is likely that the persons responding have only been to London which is populated mostly by foreigners with poor English skills, especially true of the Latin nations. England is a welcoming place. In the pub, in the fish and chip shop queue people always speak to you and smile, they are so helpful and always want to know more about our country.. If you have some knowledge of English football and Rugby both are excellent topics of conversation. Its the same in restaurants like The Ivy, Le Manoir, Fortnum and Masons, Browns Hotel, Berry Bros and Rudd and over the road in the Carlton Club English people are so nice? Perhaps its your attitude that makes you make these statements that all seem to stem from a bad attitude like a sullen teenager with an inferiority complex? And I have noticed that you pepper your postings with bad language which seems to be to insult and intimidate the many English posters here? Perhaps if you were to go to some anger management sessions and learn to speak English correctly you could correct these unwelcome aspects of your personna? Then you would be more comfortable when you visit England and other English speaking countries. Similarly when you visit the Falkland Islands.

Don't feel too much that you have to be concerned about Paul; we take no notice of him. It's clear from your post that you know England (the same England I know) and it's also decent of you to post it.

As a Falkland Islander I was very disappointed to see your president's attempts to use the Pope for her own government's means so I am pleased to see him taking such a stand no matter what the context.

Not belonging to any religion, I do admire Papa Francisco for his will to show himself as a normal human being while being in the position he is in.
Beyond any narrow interpretation of what he tells reporters, the work he is doing to bring badly-needed modernization to a church getting farther and farther behind the times will be the distinctive mark of his tenure.
His self-deprecating sense of humour about Argentines shows him flying well above the petty, humorless and envious haters of...our Argentine superior traits.

Depends on who does the poll and where it was taken. I would guess that most of the people polled had visited London. It would be no surprise that they did not have a particularly good experience. Parisians are notoriously bad mannered, New York also, Madrid, Berrlin,Rome ?

However, there is some good news from a different poll.

The list is no more a “joke” than other polls. It is nothing more than a straw poll of people interested enough to reply. No more or less. Your Troll chums scour the web to pick up any items that show the UK in a bad light and then say that the whole world agrees with your opinion. A rather biased viewpoint.

As to England, I am sure that most of the impressions are gained from visiting London. London is NOT representative of England. It's a cosmopolitan city with people from all over the world living there. It's high speed with people too busy to stop and talk. As I said, Paris is notorious even among the French for rudeness, N.York had the same reputation. I would be surprised if any major world city did not come out too well.

Bueonos Arses is not a ' major city', it is merely a provincial capital.

    In the global world of Fashion, Music, Finance or Politics it is always heard;
    London, Paris & New York.
    London, Paris & Tokyo.
In Europe, London, Berlin & Madrid.

In international terms, London is always mentioned first, whilst most people who think on a global scale consider Buenos Arses to be akin to Birkina Faso, and think that both are sub-Saharan African failed states...

PS: Why would people in London even want to be good hosts to a bunch of immigrants from Argentina?
    a) they are too busy getting rich and enjoying the the cultural diversity
    b) they don't need to suck up to any tourists because they are not desperate for US$s, unlike yourselves.

In fact, just today, one UK pound Sterling wil buy US$ 1.40, Euro 1.47 or 13.2 AR$ 'nuevo peso'
    http://markets.ft.com/research/Markets/Tearsheets/Summary?s=ARSUSD

Which means in the most basic language, that even you might undertand, that Argentines are 13.2 times poorer than the the Brits, with your currency being worth only 11 cents on the US $.

Vain and Arogant? That certainly describes our President. Unlike European and North American politicians she never gives interviews, she never faces questions and never debates criticism. The Pope is clearly up to speed on our management and so many of our people too. You can read it in their postings right here, trying to lecture English people who already have a highly sucessful economy and a decent tolerant society. Yet these Argentinians think they know better and display breathtaking arrogance by trying to lecture on subjects they clearly have no knowledge of. This doesnt work on the British who just laugh at them. For myself, this arrogance on the part of my countrymen I find highly embarrasing. The Pope is an intelligent and caring man who correctly identifies Argentinians basic deficiencies.

Paul thinks he upsets us by insulting us so much but like you say: we just laugh at him.

He doesn't appreciate the British humour.

    What a mistake-a to make-a!

Paul, the article's topic is how the pope thinks you are vain and arrogant. In a sense, you really are on topic, with each of your posts underlining his statement. ;)

I often have trouble indentifying my own 'shite' as each one seems to have a different name-tag attached.
Here are a few recent examples...
    'paulcedron'
    'paco-cedron'
    'poo-poo-cedron'
    'peruvian-cedron'
    'paco-pilot-cedron'
    'paulietudo-cedron'
    'pobre-cedron'
    'polly-cedron'
    'piss-on-me-please-cedron'
    'penguin-cedron'

    Anyone else noted a pattern?
I'll keep you all updated, meanwhile I will keep fighting off the vultures because the smell is always the same.

    Italians are lovers, and fighters:

“Writing about the fighting at the First Battle of El Alamein Rommel stated: ”The Italians were willing, unselfish and good comrades in the frontline. There can be no disputing that the achievement of all the Italian units, especially the motorised elements, far outstripped any action of the Italian Army for 100 years. Many Italian generals and officers earned our respect as men as well as soldiers“.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_history_of_Italy_during_World_War_II#cite_note-134

    That's damning with faint praise.

It is different than saying ,
”THE Italian generals and officers earned our respect as men as well as soldiers“.

I certainly don't respect Fascists, National Socialists, Communists, or their various flavors of sympathizers like the Peronists. They don't like it? Tough, History is like that. You can't extirpate enough. ;)

Troy Tempest: Italy came to Germany's rescue in Cete:

“When the German attack around Galatas stalled and the attackers suffered high losses, on 26 May the Wehrmacht operation staff requested Mussolini to send army units to Crete and thus take some of the pressure off the German forces there. Mussolini immediately agreed, and two days later an Italian regiment, reinforced with armour and artillery, landed near Sitia in the eastern part of the island. By the end of the month these formations reached Ierapetra on the south coast without encountering significant resistance.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Crete#cite_note-62

Italian bombers from 41 Gruppo sank one destroyer (Juno) and damaged another destroyer (Imperial) beyond repair ... While at anchor in Suda Bay, northern Crete, the heavy cruiser HMS York was badly damaged by Italian explosive motor boats and beached ... She was later wrecked by demolition charges and abandoned when Crete was evacuated in May. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Crete#cite_note-62

What was the eventual fate of Rommel?
What was the eventual fate of the Italians in WWII?

You can re - fight every individual battle in your tiny mind, but you can never change history.

Ironic really that you have an Argentine Pope, currently residing in Italy, who has publicly announced that he thinks the Argentines are a bit of a fucking joke.

    Alberto is off-topic.

Embarrassing that the Pope is telling it like it is about the Argentines. And he would know.

I wonder if Alberto is one of those Argies that describes himself as Italian first, like some.

Too bad for him that Pablo gives all Argies a bad name.
