He is absolutely correct that Gibraltar is of greater strategic importance to NATO that anything Spain contributes militarily or financially.

In 1898, Spain declared War on the USA. I would like to see then try that now!
    haha!
PS: They lost that one too...!
    :)

I feel there is strong support in Congress for Gibraltar. However, a gentle reminder does no harm. Pleased that Garcia is being pro-active in this matter.

    Anyone care to (dis)agree?

Past time for the 'leader of the free world' to step up to the plate. Is it right for a country to renege on all honest agreements? Is it right for a country, like spain, to force people to stand out in a queue for up to 8 hours to cross a border? Imagine being forced to stand outdoors in a queue during a hot summer's day in Texas. Just to get to their homes or place of employment. Is it right for government and poaching boats to enter another country's territorial waters and commit crimes? What bribe did spain offer so that the US would base four Aegis warships at Rota?

    @2
No bribe was needed. I am sure the Spanish merely acquiesed to anything the US 'asked' for.

Diplomatic protest after ‘provocative and dangerous’ incursion
    http://www.chronicle.gi/headlines_details.php?id=35714

Britain has protested over a ‘provocative and dangerous’ incursion by Spanish vessels into British Gibraltar territorial waters yesterday morning
The Foreign Office repeated its standard line that incursions are a violation of sovereignty but do not weaken or undermine the international legal basis for UK sovereignty over British Gibraltar territorial waters
    Eye say
    Bollxcks,

Spain will do what it wants, when it wants , and to whom it wants in Spanish waters, according to them,

    Until they are stopped

Gibraltar is not the Falklands, the US has no geographical concerns in supporting Gibraltar and garnering their support is a very clever move on Gibraltar's part. Spain also contributes nothing to NATO

“US has no geographical concerns in supporting Gibraltar”

    really?????????
have you ever looked at a map of the world?

Are you getting confused with 'geographic' and 'strategic' ??

    Much the same, no?

Otherwise. I agree with what you have to say.

The military relationship between The USA and Spain is strong and getting stronger. The USA does not need Gibralter at all as it already has bases in
    Rota and Moron.https://www.ruptly.tv/vod/view/8030/usa-obama-praises-rajoy-for-spanish-military-cooperation

@3. That's not the word on the Gibraltar street. The word is that there were a number of 'secret' spanish 'offers'. Think about this. Gibraltar covers 6.8 square kilometres and spain is desperate to get its hands on it. Naval Station Rota occupies 25 square kilometres and spain just handed it over. And the US/spain military relationship is so strong that there are annual protest marches against the Naval Station.

Spain is now part of the American missile shield,
    so they say,

    but would the Americans-if forced,
side with the British, and lose access Spanish bases, or side with the Spanish,

    decisions decision...just saying like.

Spain has not handed anything over to the USA. The Spanish flag flies in the base and the base is under the command of a Spanish Rear Admiral. Both navies have access to the base which provides around 400 million in benefits to the locals.Another advantage is that the F-100 frigates of the Spanish navy will be equiped with the Aegis system.

Under a democratic Nation.Spanish nationals have the right to march against anything that they wish that is why Spain is a Democracy. Eventhough the Locals are against such marches.http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/rota.htm

    @7 aussiesunshinee (twat).

The USA/NATO owns you. Spain is a weak and ineffective country that is reliant on NATO military power and UK/German Economic support.

Your ignorance is indeed delightful. Long may you remain in your stupidity.
Many more knowledgeable people on this site enjoy laughing at you.
Please remember the true balance of power before posting your ignorant comments here.

Enjoy your 'victim status'. You did ask for it...

You are so ridiculous Stevie, hiding behind this nick-name.

    Or just
    'arsey-sunshine'

he is a twat and everybody knows except himself.

The USA is never going to choose unreliable Spain over the steadfast UK. He can't accept the fact the Spain is most definetly considered to be mid-to-low level in any NATO or European rankings.

Obama has made 4 trips to the UK and even to 2 to Australia......

    Never visited Spain!

Christ even Senegal and Ghana have had a visit.

32 US Presidential trips to the UK! 9 to Spain.

If you are going to introduce a metric of importance then at least use one that makes you look good.

trouble is, if spain went CND who would miss them,

on the other hand, if the UK went into isolation and become an irrelivence and refused to get involved ever again,

who would win , who would suffer , would we be missed, who would back the USA up,
    Spain, I don't think so.

    Sunshine makes me laugh.

All he does is make Spain look bad.

If as the article says, does the UK still matter; then Spain is even more irrelevant.

No wonder it has no chance of ever gaining Gibraltar.
