Argentina's government on Thursday formally accused five oil companies of conducting illegal exploration work off the British-ruled Falkland Islands, which Buenos Aires claims as its own. The companies are Britain's Rockhopper Exploration plc, Premier Oil plc and Falkland Oil and Gas Ltd; Houston-based Noble Energy Inc.; and Italy's Edison International SpA, Argentina's Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Oooooh!
This is going to be fun!

This is why I have no need of 'soap-operas' (tele-novelas).

Cristina is far better entertainment. This one should roll for a while.

That fellow, (the British Ambassador), the masterful John Freeman, looks a wise old coot, and more than a match for the likes of Filmus the Fool, Krass-tina the chav, and 'annibal the 'orrible moustachiod.

She is certainly setting herself up for a massive fail.

But we all know it is for domestic consumption only. The Brits and the international oil companies will merely bat her away like the fly (mosca) that she is.

Hopefully the next Arg. Govt. will learn to sing a different tune. If they do it will benefit them. If not, nothing changes.

Doesn’t say exactly what “legal action” has begun or where it has been begun.

Another announcement about an announcement to be announced, it would seem.

Time to withdraw ambassadors, after all there is nothing further to be said.

    @3
It is all for domestic consumption. I expect a 'kafka-esque' show-trial, at home in Argentina, but with none of the 'accused' actually present.

It will be a joy to watch Her Royal Chavness Krass-tina try to enforce International Arrest Warrants.
She will merely piss-off a lot of serious people, and gain nothing. She will, infact, destroy any FDI interest for a long time.

Leave the Ambassadors be, after all, some-one needs to provide Tea and Cake for all those hard-working spies... (must be such an easy job...!)

These 5 companies will be tried in absentia. They will be found guilty in absentia. They will be fined and their directors imprisoned in absentia. They will be broken up and the parts nationalized by the Argentine Government .... in absentia.

    I wonder if they'll notice.

And where is Absentia anyway :-)

since when rockhopper (lol) and premier oil (lol x 1 million) are considered “companies”?
they are just a group of arrivistes, go-getters and common delinquents.
they should be prosecuted not for trying to drill that cesspit in the islets, but because of their criminal records.
but what the fuck can you expect from the english justice?
    eh?

    @5 Lord Ton
Thank you for your insight on Argentine Legal Procedure.
May I humbly add, that I have it, on good
authority, that 'Absentia' is located on the Argentinian Contential Shelf. Somewhat north-east of the mythical 'malvinas', a rocky out-crop that is entirely populated by elves, fairies, and of course, trolls.
According to the Arg Govt. it is part of their national landmass.

Apparrently 'tis true ! I asked my unicorn, and she agrees... she met paul-carrion there when he flew in on his antique aircraft to offer architectural advice on building a castle made entirely of...

    bull-shit.

The Falkandlands are as Argentines as the obelisk.

Shit, now they are claiming sovereignty over Egypt!

It's a well known fact of Argentine history that Gaucho Riverra, or what ever his name is, was there before the Pharos!

its quite funny really... as there is no legal basis for this (in Argentine law - lack of jurisdiction even in their own legal system) , it will be a good test of how corrupt the Argetnine courts are.

What the fuck has english justice got to do with it? It is not the UK that wants to bring these companies to court. This is fun, can't wait to see which court they think has jurisdiction to decide the outcome. PMSL

Usual baseless accusations from those crazy Argentinians & as usual they can & will do nothing as it's not their territory nor does it fall under Argentine jurisdiction & the company's involved have no footprint in Argentina & they operate under International law. Empty vessels always make the most noise.

@6. Rockhopper Exploration has been 'considered' a company since it was founded in 2004. Premier Oil has been 'considered' a company since it was founded in 1934.

But you may be right about English justice. Here are some questions you might like to answer.
    1. In 1982, why were argie war criminals permitted to return to their cesspit instead of being taken to England where they could be hanged?
    2. Why hasn't argieland been taken to the ICJ by English justice for starting the war?
    3. Why hasn't English justice demanded £500 billion from argieland in war reparations and payment for mine clearance?
    4. Why hasn't Cristina Kirchner been indicted under English law for instigating activities inconsistent with the UN Charter?
    5. When the opportunity presented, why didn't English justice arrange for Timtwat to be arrested and imprisoned for his repeated attacks on British people? And after serving his 5 years, why didn't English justice arrange from him to be handed over to the Americans for justice over the matter of a U.S. Air Force aircraft?
@6. Why hasn't English justice arranged for Alicia Castro's fraudulent 'credentials' to be torn up so that she can be tried for activities inconsistent? And then housed in Wormwood Scrubs for the 'benefit' of the most serious criminals? Who surely have a 'human right' to have their unmentionable sexual activities catered for?
@15. The problem for argieland is that it suffers from intermittent medical ailments. For instance, it regularly goes blind when asked to read UNCLOS. A case in point is Article 15. No argie can actually read that. There are a number of other provisions that argies can't read, understand or comply with. For instance, the Convention frequently refers to reaching agreements, 'in a spirit of understanding and cooperation'. Does argieland even know what 'a spirit of understanding and cooperation' means?

At the end of the day Argentina believes that if they bang on about this constantly they will wear The British down and hand The Islands to them on a plate-The British have made their case very clear NO change unless the good people of The Falklands request it.

    oh, my bad.
I re-read the article and I saw a picture of Mr Filmus, now I now that I can´t expect common sense.

Now imagine this: Argentina holds mature relationships with those Islands, and ALL the food/supplies/staff these companies need are purchased in Argentina.
Another business opportunity missed. But, hey, let´s keep claiming, it will surely be good for something ... (eyes roll here)

Constitutionally no one can be tried “in absentia” in Argentina, that is why there has been no trial of those responsible for the AMIA bombing. Therefore if the (mis)government tries these people in any Argentine court it will be illegal and unconstitutional. Not that this would stop CFK or any of her troupe of Kidiots (With thanks to YB) :)

    Faster faster quicker quicker,

Can't wait-they're going to make themselves look stupid if they take the usual route of no follow up action, or if they press ahead.

They might even go to the ICJ if they think they can prove the Falklands are theirs, as surely they have to in order that any 'prosecution' sticks.

How would they like it if the tables were turned? Filmus arrested for antangonistic lying, if he left Argentina.
How many other businesses are going to avoid Argentina, if injustice is the Argy way. It's not as if Nisman was allowed to go to court, was it? Guilty or what!
