Falkland Islands is reviewing its immigration policy and is urging a more proactive attitude with the purpose of increasing the permanent resident population and encouraging controlled growth, but this must be a discussion amongst Islanders and elected lawmakers. The Falklands according to the latest census from 2012 has a population of approximately 3.000. Read full article

Nation building!
Apr 27th, 2015 - 09:13 am - Link - Report abuse 0Have been saying this for a while. That the Falkland Islands need to slowly increase their population to create internal economies and sustainability.
A target of say 100 permanent residents per year is a good start. That would take 30 years to double the population without taking into account births.
A slow and steady approach would allow new migrants to settle and eventually adopt a Falkland Islanders identity. Their children would, like most first generation settlers, identify more with the Islands than their parent's home country.
FIG could also set targets (quite acceptable in such a small population) of say 1/3 from UK, 1/3 from outside the Americas and 1/3 from anywhere within the Americas. That way no one new group of residents becomes too dominant.
Will be interesting to see what happens.

Apr 27th, 2015 - 10:57 am - Link - Report abuse 0With such a small native population it is quite necessary to have strong control over the influx of immigrants. It is too easy for a certain foreign power to try to change the the ethnic composition in their favour. The western neighbour could encourage perhaps one thousand malvinistas to move in and start claming things. The quotas Skip proposes @2 could be a target. But 1/3 from anywhere within the Americas must exclude the Argentine Republic until it changes its attitudes towards the F.I. totally.
Apr 27th, 2015 - 11:13 am - Link - Report abuse 0The islands already have a strong Chilean contingent and they seem to fit in well.
Apr 27th, 2015 - 12:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0That's about it really from SA.
Even the Uruguayos are well known to be slackers and I can agree with this from practical experience with 'builders'. One quoted three weeks for the work I wanted doing which at the time seemed 'ambitious' but he would not move on it when questioned. He and the others he used did a very good job but took 14 weeks to complete.
He would say 'manana' but come three days later. Manana can mean the day after tomorrow it seems according to my Spanish teacher but even she was surprised by their tardiness.
AND you have to watch them like a hawk, especially when I learnt, in all seriousness, that 75% was 'perfection'!
Argies need a permanent ban.

and about immigration policies, they are just 2000 poor souls exactly like 100 years ago when they started the squatting.
what immigration policy is this bald dumbasshole talking about?
now lets do the maths, they are 2000 poor souls, with an average age of 70 and a life expectancy of 72, which means that in 10 years, more or less, we will have no more isleters in the islets.
now add their poor healthcare system and that term can decrease to 5 years.
and let me tell you something, you bald dumbasshole, nobody with a bit of a brain would immigrate to those islets crowded with parasites, guano and sheep droppings.
I take it you do not want to go there, thats fine so why all the fuss about the FALKLANDS being Argentine? Try to get your story straight, why do Argentina want the FALKLANDS? just answer the question will do. Sovereignty and do what precisely? You don't want the stinky islets do you?

@8. Poor girlie. You just love trying and failing. Immigrants go to a territory to which they are not native for the purpose of settlement. Nothing about 'rules'. Difficult to have 'rules' when the territory has no inhabitants. Of course, after 1690, there were rules. British rules. And, 325 years on, little has changed. Still British rules.
Apr 27th, 2015 - 05:18 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As of an estimate from 2012, the population is 2,932.
Did you know that, in the next 5 years, the Falkland Islands Government plans to install a thousand CT scanners across the Islands? It's one issue where the NHS IS going international.
And how did three subspecies of argie subhumans get on to the Islands?
@11. And thus you refer to the ideology of integralism. Which is exclusionary and particularistic and (in a South American context) is considered to be a sort of para-fascism. WE fought a war to get rid of fascists. You stood on the sidelines hoping free, democratic countries would lose. WE didn't lose. Who do you chant 'Heil' to these days?
@13. Bad news for you. Argies are only allowed into the Falklands for settlement once they've handed over enough money to ensure that they can be returned to argieland and had their nuts roasted and crushed. Can't allow reproduction.
@17. How do you get 2-3 years? Jewett the pirate doesn't count. Nor does Vernet the traitorous pirate. Mestivier lasted 7 weeks before being shot and bayoneted by mutinous members of his 'garrison'. 74 illegal days in 1982. I make it 18 weeks at the most.
@19. Moron. What does it matter what Ferdinando says. He has no more chance of getting into the Falkland Islands than you would. Although there would be a difference in treatment. His friendly, appreciative attitude suggests that he would be escorted to his means of transport and, regretfully, waved off. You, on the other hand, would probably be hooded, transported to the highest suitable cliff and thrown off into an Atlantic gale headed offshore. Still shackled of course.

Apr 27th, 2015 - 07:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So can you clarify something for me?
When European migrants settled in South America and subsequently created Argentina, surely they settled in a foreign country too?
There might be a question of whether they obeyed the local rules though?
Not sure the indigenous owners of the country at the time saw these new immigrants as exactly following their rules? but you are quite happy to see yourself as a country as a result of not following those rules.
So how is Argentina being settled and created any different from the Falkland Islands?
Answer it isn't
Immigration creates most countries. Argentina was created by immigration, so was the Falklands. The territorial argument is invalid as that could mean any country could argue any territory nearby belong to them because they fancied a land grab. Self determination is a much better way of doing it.
Argentina needs to focus on sorting out its own problems and let the Falkland Islanders get on to sorting their country out for themselves too.
mutual respect rather than bullying and invective is a lot more constructive, and a great deal more adult in taking the Falklands Islands/Argentina issue forward.

A comparison of health, education and housing standards in 29 states across the continent puts the UK in 24th place – far below smaller and poorer countries such as Slovakia and Hungary.
The new report echoes a study published two years ago by Unicef that concluded Britain was the worst country in the industrialised world in which to grow up

New child mortality figures put UK firmly at bottom of Western European league table:

Deaths per 1,000 live births for under 5’s. : UK =4.9
The UK has similar under-5 mortality rates to Eastern European states of Poland and Macedonia.

UNICEF’s latest Report Card compares child well-being in the world’s richest countries. The report is a follow-up to Report Card 7, which in 2007 placed the UK at the bottom of 21 developed countries for overall child well-being.

Apr 28th, 2015 - 01:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I understand that you are just being told to post this stuff, but even you must wonder why you are bothering. As every year passes the UK pulls further ahead of Argentina and in the meantime the Falkland Islanders are developing their economy and their islands exactly as they wish and good luck to them I say.
As for the empire, the UK has not had an empire for nearly 70-years and it was the Allies who won the war, i.e. British, Commonwealth, American & Russians etc. But yes we did win the Falklands war, but what a terrible and unnecessary conflict that was.
Can I suggest that your next posts should be about what is good about Argentina and thus why you think the Falkland Islanders would (in your view) be better off joining with you? But suggesting that Britain is doing badly when we have created 2,000,000 new jobs in the last 5-years doesn't quite fit.
@19 paulcedron Remind me again which Spanish Squatter x president described you Argentines as LIARS and THIEVES from the first to the last REMIND ME YOU PIECE OF SHIT

Look at your own 'politics' Viriol01/Pablo petite-voice.
Especially interesting is the Return of the Peronists, the civil war between the Montoneros, Juan and Isobel Peron, and every other faction.
Hundreds assasinated, more ransomed. Bombings, torture, kidnappings, rape, concentration camps, violence and coercion, industry and labour extortions ...
Torture and rape are needed to control the subversives...”
Not just the junta, either.
Something for you to be proud of... !

For everyone else - those from the civilised world, this is an extensive history and account of the Argentine political scene - it's fascinating, as it is so removed from the peaceful, stable, ordered societies that Brits and N Americans are used to, and expect.
How naive people can be? .....It amuse me..... :)))

A Look Back at the Pedophilia Scandals That Swallowed Britain Whole in 2014
http://www.vice.com/read/a-look-back-at-the-pedophilia-scandals-that-swallowed-britain-whole-in-2014
In 2014, a series of often seemingly intertwining child sex abuse stories have engulfed the UK in what has become the biggest scandal of modern times. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that the whole country feels duped, dirtied, and, worse, connected in some way. Culprits and alleged culprits have included celebrities, the social services and police (whose systemic failures resulted in an estimated 1,400 children being sexually exploited in the town of Rotherham between 1997 and 2013), politicians (the evidence of a pedophile ring operating within the corridors of Westminster during the 1980s is now incontrovertible after London´s Metropolitan Police described allegations from an anonymous survivor as credible and true this month), and even employees of the Royal Family (British tabloid the Sunday People recently revealed that the House of Windsor was also implicated in abuses centered around accusations from a 16-year-old boy).

Nisman death, it was reported 3 or 4 months ago that Nisman was shot in the right temple then below the right ear, now reported in the BA Herald that he was shot in the left temple, so the question is do they ( Argies ) know the left from right. It would make a difference to deciding if it was murder ( shot in right temple ) he was left handed, or suicide ( shot in right temple ) right handed. Or murder ( shot in left temple ) he was right handed, or suicide ( shot in left temple ) he was left handed. Christ can they not get anything right ( or left )

Can I just ask you something? Is this supposed to mean something? Or is it just something that Google translate gave you and you can't tell that it's nonsense?
Britain doesn't have an empire. It has a handful of Overseas Territories to which it owes a duty of care. The Falklands are British because that's what the inhabitants want.
And we'll carry on wanting that because however crap you think Britain is (and you are mostly wrong- that's what you get from reading crappy tabloid newspapers), it is infinitely better than Argentina.
Hope that helps,
M
putting history aside what does Argentina actually contribute to the world today besides winging, complaining telling fairy tales having tantrums oh and thieving??
