Disclaimer & comment rulesMercosur has failed. Nobody within the block wants to admit it but it has. The only country happy with Mercosur is Argentina as it has enabled them to prevent their neighbours advancing beyond their reach and has helped disguise the extent of their own economic failure.

So much for Brasileiro's sanctions!

Some. Chilean politicians at one point were seriously considering proposing to join Mercosur, but were told by Argentinian politicians to forget it.
Thank you dear Argentina!
Does anyone know what the actual penalties are if / when this Devil's Pact is breached?
Jun 10th, 2015 - 11:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0Does TMBOA scweem and scweem and stamp her feet but do nothing (as usual) or will there be war?
I think we all know the answer to the war option: they are SA brothers and sisters after all!
Ha, ha, ha, ha.
It is going to be interesting to see how the Argy Gov responds to this.
Jun 10th, 2015 - 03:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The last statement I read was they were saying “NO, there had to be unity in Murcosur”.
Looks like the rest of the world and parts of Murcosur have moved on, will they realise that?
The Argentine government will play the victim and blame all their ills on Brazil. If Brazil had not broken ranks then all would be wonderful in Paradise Argentina. Just watch.

”If Argentina decides not to participate in negotiations at this moment, the rest of the block will continue to advance“, added Astori.
Jun 10th, 2015 - 09:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0this useless astori forgets that argentina is a key part, the most important part along with brazil, of mercosur.
and this useless asshole forgets that there will be a new govt here in 4 months.
so, the union of mercosur members is guaranteed.
and the trade with the e.u. is, of course, as always, one of the most important issues for mercosur.
not only economically, but also culturally.
and now that england will be fired from the e.u., the links with between mercosur and eu will be reinforced.
the english are always the cause of the problem.
Hilarious post Paul,PMSL. How many times must you be told for it to sink in to your tiny mind, IT IS THE UNITED KINGDOM or GREAT BRITAIN and no they are not going to be fired from the EU although if Cameron does not get a good deal by negociations we may leave after the referendum. You see The UK citizens make the important decisions not like you dumb arses. A major contributer to the EU is in fact the UK like it or not.

The rest of mercosur.
needs to dump argyland before it drags them down with her.
The latest news is that Argentina is going to speed up their internal proceedings so as to approach the EU together with the other Mercosur nations (except Venezuela, who everyone seems to have forgotten lately). I don't think the present Argentine government has the skill or even the good will to do anything but spoil and sabotage. Nor am I enthusiastic about any of the prospective presidents of Argentina on the horizon. Argentine politicians are a buncha crooks, as former Uruguayan president Jorge Batlle famously said.
