”Argentina seeks to colonize the Falklands against the wishes of its people”

Full article 94 comments

Falkland Islands lawmaker Mike Summers called on the UN Special Decolonisation Committee to uphold the basic human rights of the people of the Non Self-Governing Territories, particularly self determination, argued that C24 has no mandate to discuss competing claims over NSGTs and cautioned that in supporting Argentine colonial aspirations in the Falkland Islands, “you are complicit in supporting Argentina’s bullying and harassment”. “the Argentine claim to Spanish succession, which was never accepted by the United Kingdom, was ended by treaty in 1850”

So the British claim of being a completely independent state from the EU ended in 1973. And for a few decades the UK leaders said they had no dispute with the EEC/EU.

That's it then. The UK referendum (if it ever comes) has no legal status, since the UK signed a treaty in 1973 and never continuously pressed the issue.

The British are EUians and that will never change.

I've never figured out if Toby is really stupid or just wants people to think that.

His logic always seems to go something like this:

    The Cat is purple
    It has 4 eyes
    So the cat can fly.

    Que?

You may be happy to know that you're in the top 10% of wealth for Rgs if you make over U$900/mo.

Our polite and intellectual contributor Paulcedron #7 earlier inquired for his upcoming visit “...about the best place to stay, to eat and to practice skiing...” in the Falkland Islands.

    Dear Paul,

Congratulations for taking the indicative to learn for yourself about the delightful, friendly and welcoming people of the beautiful south Atlantic archipelago easily accessed from Río Gallegos on the monthly Saturday LAN flight (Which, I might modestly mention has consistently been rated the best airline in Latin America)

Upon arrival, you'll simply need to mention to the immigration official that you are a “special guest of SIS Tourist Adventures” and within moments your exceptionally attentive welcoming team will whisk you away in a black Range Rover to the exclusive and very private nearby SIS Mount Pleasant Ski Resort and Spa, an all inclusive luxury and exclusive facility managed by the SIS-Vauxhall Cross Group in London.

There you'll encounter that all your meals will be carefully prepared and all the challenging activities by your thoughtful MI6 recreation team. Even your exclusive wardrobe will be selected as well. I personally promise you that it will be the most unique experience of your life...

Especially after your MI6 friends read all the remarkable comments you've posted over the years...

    Sincerely, Chicureo

    UN news centre

    http://www.un.org/apps/news/infocus/UNdecoded/UNdecoded.asp?NewsID=1320&sID=48

“The UN monitors progress towards self-determination in the Territories, of which there are currently 17: American Samoa, Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands (Malvinas), French Polynesia, Gibraltar, Guam, Montserrat, New Caledonia, Pitcairn, St. Helena, Tokelau, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands and Western Sahara.

The UN Charter binds administering Powers to recognize that the interests of dependent Territories are paramount; to agree to promote social, economic, political and educational progress in the Territories; to assist in developing appropriate forms of self-government; and to take into account the political aspirations and stages of development and advancement of each Territory. Administering Powers are also obliged under the Charter to convey to the UN information on conditions in the Territories.

Hoping to speed the progress of decolonization, the General Assembly adopted, in 1960, the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples. Known as the Declaration on decolonization, it stated that all people have a right to self-determination and proclaimed that colonialism should be brought to a speedy and unconditional end.”

I like my logic better than the Anglo logic, which goes like this:

    little Anglo says:
Three days ago, you promised pinky swear that you would never take from my lollypop stash.
You took a lollypop today, you are mean, you did a pinky swear!

    little Anglo then says:
Three days ago, I promised pinky swear that I would never take from your chocolate stash.
I took a chocolate today, I am nice, I undid the pinky swear with my other hand behind me!

    Sad sad culture.

Sometime ago France turned its overseas territories into “departments of metropolitan France” integrated them into the mainland structures.

An approach not favoured by the British as it does not allow for local conditions and requirements.

If this is that argentina try and colonise by stealth and back door. This is totally wrong and illegal. So think the British Goverment needs to increase military power, and keep the increased military power in falklands for a full decade.Yes 10yrs ,then reduce a little. This will show the argentine people ,we are here to stay..The british are remaing on islands for life.

@7: Paulie, you don't really have a clue, do you? All RGland wants out of the Falkland Islands is for it to be colonised, by RGland. You know it, we know it and so does everyone else!! You really don't understand the concept of “decolonisation”. The idea is for C24 to accept that, with a freely elected governing system, free to make its own laws and economy, the FI is free to choose its sovereignty and achieve recognition as such.
RGland is locked in a process that it theoretically can't get out of. It doesn't want to discuss sovereignty with Britain, in part because it won't get its way, and won't get involved in talks with the FI Government because it knows it won't get its way there either. The only place it can openly say anything is at C24, but nothing will happen at a Decolonisation Seminar, because all they are there to talk about IS decolonisation.
Seeing as the FI are not a colony, Timerman's words are just empty. Admit it, all you want is for the Falkland Islands to be an RG colony.
Got it? I doubt you have.....

A historical review of the shabby treatment Islanders received traveling through Argentina prior to the 1982 invasion was appalling, but the barbaric treatment by the occupying Argentine invaders broke not only the Geneva Convention, but almost all the rules of human decency.

Instead of a developing and prosperous community, the “Malvinas” would be a forgotten backwater of poverty.

@6. There was no “EU” in 1973. The British people never agreed to join an “EU”. After being lied to on a number of issues, they were conned into voting for an “EEC”, a Common Market. Pity your brain cell can't encompass this. I could point you at a paper to explain the fallaciousness of your viewpoint. But it has foreign (Latin) words and some long words in it, so it would be beyond you.
@7. IMPERIALIST COLONIALIST PRICKS. Want to try again? Should we turn every argie settlement into rubble? You know we can. Type 45 destroyers and Type 23 frigates for bombardment. Astute class submarines for cruise missile launch. Eurofighter Typhoons for area bomb and missile destruction. The arrival of 8,000 troops of 16 Air Assault Brigade. Backup by 4, that's FOUR, Vanguard class ballistic missile submarines. with missiles carrying up to 12, that's TWELVE, nuclear warheads each.

We're PARANOID, you see. The tiniest little thing might set us off. Are you planning to replace Russian Roulette with Argie Annihiliation? Think about this. In February 1945, British and American heavy bombers attacked Dresden, Germany. It appears that 25,000 individuals were killed. Did Britain care then? Did America? No. The enemy suffered. Does Britain care now? Does America? No. Nazis (and Germans) had to learn. Any Kirchnerites, Peronistas, argies experienced a real war? Not something 1,000, 300 miles away. Where the explosions and destruction are in the next town, the next street, the next house. It's coming. Argieland is on the brink. Looking death in the face. British missiles are NOT subject to U.S. control. Don't believe me? Attack. Go ahead. There is nothing in argieland we would want to save. Feeling lucky?

Well thought out, balanced ,factual and lucid speech from Mike. Truthful in content, sincere in delivery.
It's easy to come to the conclusion that love of democracy and a desire for peace is clearly important to the Falklanders.
Contrast Mike's speech with the hysterical ,foam frothing RG's diatribe.Lies subterfuge ,deceit and duplicity being the underlying basis
Any erudite committee would have been proud to have Mike's speech delivered to them and would have been embarrassed to hear it's gainsay.

Argentina wanted to destroy Paraguay entirely after the TA war by appropriating (with Brazil) all of its territory but Brazil strongly wanted to keep Paraguay as a buffer to its upstart neighbour. What would have happened to the Paraguayans that were left mostly women and children by this point? And the question always remains - how can you seperate the colonialist actuions of the ARgentine state against the pueblos originarios with your moronic claims against the british . General Roca was so successful in the genocide of the Conquest of the Desert that he soon after became President.

Neither country wants to be part of Argentina and no amount of denigrating remarks regarding their physical appearance is going to change that.

Considering how much Klingon talks about getting his leg over, we can finally see why he left NZ. Think.... well we know it doesn't work anymore, especially considering his alcohol consumption. I officially announce I have changed my mind on the British Queen. She is actually intelligent, unlike her compatriots:

    http://news.yahoo.com/queens-europe-speech-raises-eyebrows-britain-113021774.html#

Listen to her you morons. She is saying what I have been saying, the UK is turning into a 4th Reich! Full of misguided cultural and racial supremacy, that the British is the superior race, over all other Europeans and certainly non-Europeans. Full of hatred of Europe, full of feelings of xenophobia and a ridiculous idea the world is worse off without the UK. That Anglo culture is the only worthy culture on this planet, that Anglo-saxon thought is always right and everyone else is always wrong, etc, etc.

I have been warning you all of the above. Also look at all the attacks on Jews, on dark skinned people, in the UK.

Listen to your queen. It is very likely that WWIII will be started by the UK trying to reconstitute its empire, and will end up occupied and divided into Russian, Chinese, German/French, and Arab Coalition zones, like I wrote a few weeks ago in a hauting prediction story.

Surely, this committee was established to ensure that “colonies” were protected against the ruling(mother?) countries NOT to support countries which wish seek to colonise them against their will. 37 paulcedron II ”they are an integral part of its (Argentina) territory.“ You would need to prove, since at present such a term is more applicable to the UK. As in CHAPTER XI, DECLARATION REGARDING NON-SELF-GOVERNING TERRITORIES Article 73 of the UN Charter: ”Members of the United Nations which have or assume responsibilities for the administration of territories whose peoples have not yet attained a full measure of self-government recognize the principle that the interests of the inhabitants of these territories are paramount..”

    I say...:
I know about a few Kelper males that have mated with petite Shilean females...
But I don't know of no Kelper female mating with any Shilean male...
Maybe you could bring me “Up to Date”?

The irony is, of course, that if Argentina ever does get possession of the Falklands they will immediately move to COLONISE it with Argentine colonisers in sufficient numbers (ie, at least 3,000 but probably more) in order to create an artificial majority and outnumber the British Falklanders. Since very few Argentines would actually want to go there - partly because there are no jobs for them there but mainly because they are simply not interested - these colonisers will have to be supported by the Argentine government in every way and paid a salary/pension simply to stay there and they would also be expected and encouraged to make a nuisance of themselves in order to force out and ethnically-cleanse the British Falklanders. This is what the Orwellian-named “UN de-colonisation committee” wants.

Remarkable improvements are planned for Las Islas Malvinas with the de-colonization program to improve the lives of the islanders.

Islanders would receive free access to all transmitted Argentina sports and news.

All signage would be changed to reflect the proper Argentine names of places.

Driving on roads would be on the right instead of the left.

The statue of Baroness Thatcher and the war memorial would be quietly dumped into the sea.

Two thousand la Cámpora followers would begin their responsibilities managing the new reeducation centers that would obligatory for each islander to attend. Free Spanish classes would be available for residents over the age of 55, but all others would be required to attend.

Another two thousand Chinese dock workers would settle for servicing the large Chinese fishing vessels as well as the Chinese Navy warships operating in the Mar Argentina.

Another six thousand Chinese soldiers would be based at their new south Atlantic defense center.

Aerolinias Argentinas would provide provide service between Buenos Aires and the Aeroparque Xi Jinping (former Mount Pleasant airport)

Our fascist cowardly thug PaulCedron is parroting the Peronist propaganda phrase for justifying the Islanders are nothing more than a non-people or “implanted population“ which was the same Nazi strategy of lebensraum”

Cristina is directing that Argentina wants to settle the lebensraum issue peacefully through persistent diplomatic negotiations and bullying that will require other powers to force concessions to the United Kingdom. The Falklanders are considered by the Argentines just like the Nazis did of the Polish, Ukrainians and Jews.

Paulcedron is one of those brown shirted la Cámpora racist bigots.

It is about time that the FALKLANDERS offered an olive branch to Argentina. Namely inviting the UK Foreign Secretary, the UN General Secretary and the Argentine Foreign Secretary to start talks in the FALKLAND ISLANDS, that surely would upset the apple cart. How could Argentina refuse such an invitation. I know they would but just a thought, would show them up for what they are HYPOCRITES.

@62: What implanted population? Can you list the people to whom you allude? No one is here by force. Again, I repeat, on behalf of everybody here, where does your population come from? Your “president” isn't even pure-bred RG herself, her husband even less so? How far back does the population of RGland actually go back? Bear in mind you are only allowed to go back in history as far as when Spain granted its colony independance - 1865.
All of us, except the military presence are here by choice. None of us are paid to be here. This is our home.

    Nor does your government,

    And it never will.

Actually British schools in Argentina are overpriced cult centers. British education is an utter disaster, and everyone knows this based on any interaction with a British national. Example @66:

“How far back does the population of RGland actually go back? Bear in mind you are only allowed to go back in history as far as when Spain granted its colony independance - 1865.”

This is about the 15th date on “Argentine independence” that British posters have typed on this forum.

1865? I mean how can a nation be filled with such ignorant people? Even if you don't know the answer, at least do some online searching for the right answer! The education level of the Brits is nonexistent.

    @74

So now you know I tell the truth when I see it. And what I see is that you are a racist against Argentines, have no clue about Argentina, and that you are completely uneducated.

    @73

English people are silly, and while I side with you on the issue of the Falkland Islands, let me be clear, you have no business in Argentina's territory one meter beyond the Falkland's EEZ. As far as I'm concerned, any British plane, vessel, or vehicle in Argentine territory should be eliminated first, questions asked later. Starting with your embassy. But I would be kind to give you 48 hours notice to leave Argentina. You are an enemy of this nation and all your interests and nationals should be immediately evicted. Not one gram of British anything on Argentine soil (of which I do not include the British territory of the Falkland Islands).

This reminds me of a World War 2 Battle.”THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE),The germans completely surrounded the town of “BASTOYNE” Belguim. The town had a large amount of American troops. The town was trapped on all sides..So the German Commander sent a soldier with a white flag..So he asked the commander of the town of Bastoyne to surrender .The american thought for a minute .Then he told the german soldier to take this one message back to the german commander ,when asked whats the message ,the american commander said “NUTS”,again “NUTS”.This he took back, the yanks held town, and won the fight. So the same answer to the argentine goverment “NUTS YES NUTS TO YOU ALL.”

“The town had a large amount of American troops”

They were the “Screaming Eagles”, The 101st airborne division .

The message was delivered to Colonel Joseph Harper demanding “Honourable surrender” otherwise overwhelming German forces would “annihilate the USA troops”

He took this to the commanding Officerfor the 101st, one Brigadier-General Anthony McAuliffe who at first, thought it was a joke and just said “awww nuts” but then handed Harper a piece of paper with the message on it “To the German commander NUTS!! The American commander”

When Harper returned, Having had to explain to the German messenger, what “NUTS!!” meant, McAuliffe said to him “The Germans have got us surrounded, the poor B*st*rds”

But it is a great tale to tell and one that does sum up the Falklands situation quite nicely, don't you think?
