Chile will insist at the two-day Pacific Alliance summit which took off on Wednesday in Paracas, Peru, that a convergence with Mercosur is needed to ensure the integration of Latina America, and this is more evident now that both groupings face similar challenges such as falling prices for commodities, normalization of US monetary policy and an international context of slow growth. Disclaimer & comment rulesI'm all for integration between these two blocks. Thankfully the Pacific Alliance is too pragmatic too compromise its foundations and advances by letting Mercosur's weaknesses infect it.
Jul 02nd, 2015 - 07:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0Also, Chile isn't just second to Brazil in inward FDI, the Pacific Alliance actually attracts as much as FDI as Mercosur even though their GDP is 63% (generous with Argentina and Venezuela's inflated make believe figures-I estimate 71%) and population is 77% of Mercosur's.
NO, NO, NO.
Jul 02nd, 2015 - 11:08 am - Link - Report abuse 0Stuff Mercosur, they are nothing but a bunch of inbred losers who with the aid of Venezuela and the long-term deadheads of Argentina have pushed Mercosur into a political cabal aimed at bringing the rest of the members down to their level.
As for Bachelet, it seems the old commie still hasn't shook off her roots with this nonsensical comment:
”Finding convergence between two integration mechanisms, different but with similar targets must be a reality. We can't give the image that in this region the two coasts (Pacific and Atlantic) live back to back“, underlined Bachelet.”
Why not, that is EXACTLY what the situation is, whether this idiot wants to admit it or not and it won't change whilst there are Peronistas in Argentina, the likes of MADuro in Venezuela and PT crooks in Brazil. So, in reality, never.

Jul 02nd, 2015 - 03:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Your views reflect our continent's real situation. It's amazing how many well educated middle and upperclass Venezuleans are emigrating to Chile to find a new life in Chile. Argentines are hanging on and staying, but in 2016 who knows?

I think we all suspect that it will be much of the same in Argentina given that the K's have an iron grip on the stinking idle poor due to their bribery of them.
During 2014 the total number of Argentines who have come to Uruguay and sought permanent residency reached 150,000 according to the Ministry.
It seems those with brains and money are making their escape from TDC and who can blame them?
2@ I agree with you......NO to convergence bteween groupings....
Jul 02nd, 2015 - 08:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0PA is a very different Alliance based just in economic principles about free trade.......nothing to do with political matters.....!!!
Unfortunately Chilean bad president is falling into populism and has been influenced by her leftist friends from Mercosur and she isn´t happy with just sink our country and now wants to affect the whole grouping.
Hope the other 3 members don´t accept her proposition and keep away from the bunch of the other side of the Andes....
The real situation is that whilst the lefties political parties stay at the office in most Mercosur countries will never bee a possibility to joint both blocks, even the stupid madam who is sinking Chile will tray with all her effort to mix them.... but she is the only idiot and in less htan 3 years I hope the wind will change to the other side again and we will get the growth and development again (if not we will fall to the low level of Mercosur countries)......
The only problem of AP..........is the México. Get Out México!
Jul 03rd, 2015 - 12:22 am - Link - Report abuse 0As a Brazilian, you don't get a say.
Jul 03rd, 2015 - 12:35 am - Link - Report abuse 0Just stick with Venezuela and Argentina Brasileiro and the Pacific Alliance will happily include Mexico.
