Chile couldn't support Argentina because according to most Argentineans, dealing and supporting military juntas is unacceptable.

Or does that only apply to the west? So hard to keep up with the logic sometimes.

This is particularly true when it comes to a song in which the Argentine fans accuse their Chilean counterparts of treason for having supported the British during the South Atlantic conflict in 1982.

How can Chilean's be accused of treason against the junta of TDC? The RGs beggar belief because someone WILL stand up for their rights against the brutal colonialist nutters next door.

The logic of course betrays the Argentine lies.

if Chile are traitors for supporting Britain..then of course the logic says they should have supported Argentina.

If they should have supported Argentina...then the logic says the Argentine invasion was right and valid

if the Argentine invasion was right and valid in 1982...then the logic suggests it would be equally right and valid in 2015.

the logic then suggests most Argentines would support another invasion if they believed they had any chance of winning.

#5 well said. Argentina appears to have a split personality. defence minister says the would invade if not for the Garrison in Falklands then the Goverment says publicly it will never use force.
A judge says Falklands has broken the law and then encourages the kidnap of property and people
The populace scream and condem the Junta as criminals and trators and then accuses another country cowdarnice for not supporting that Juntas actions.
Is it schizophrenia or Narcasism or both

Exactly so #5, as Arturo Puricelli said (in complaining about the UK defence of the Islands) the only reason we are not there now is because of the defence.

Do argies have a different definition of treason than the rest of the world? Of course they do. They are little different to muslims who are “loyal” to their cult rather than to the country in which they reside. Made worse when they come pleading for “hospitality” and then abuse it. Argies have a particularly repugnant attitude. Everyone in SoAm is supposed to support them. However, for the most part, they only support themselves. Let's take some simple instances. Uruguay. Argies interfere in domestic affairs by, for instance, refusing to repatriate its own currency after it having been exchanged. An act that could also be characterised as fraud. Bullying, not only in respect of the pulp mills, but also undermining Uruguay's trade with its illegitimate actions against Uruguay's ports. Then there's Paraguay. Not content with illegitimately arranging for Paraguay's suspension from mercosur and unasur, argies are inconsiderately moving a nuclear facility, without consultation, to the Paraguayan border. The aim to “conquer” Chilean territory. It even holds back the proper countries of mercosur from trade agreements for its own benefit. Only one conclusion. It's that argies believe that, somehow, they are the “master race”. Watch them. Watch for the difference between argies and nazis. Can you find any?

I was having dinner with some Chileans in Russia last week and they seemed very pleased about having helped us beat the Argentines in The Falklands War. One ventured that they really beat the Argentines with a little help from us. :) I let that one slide……..

it seems this ass-licker bernardo me trago la maza is another imbecile who confuses sports with political / diplomatic issues, or even worse with a war.

maybe this imbecile (who the fuck is this fly-weight, by the way?) should listen to a sensitive, intelligent argentine player like javier mascherano:

“No tenemos que meter a la gente en la política porque somos países hermanos. Esto es un deporte y hay que tomarlo como un divertimento y no como una guerra. Ojalá que todos entiendan esto”,

bernardo me trago la maza, vidal the drunken and jara the faggot...chilotelandia is well represented.

    Bravissimo Bernardo de la Maza!
No. 1. Yes, Chile was dead right in helping the UK defeating Argentina's war of aggression against the free Falkland Islands.
    2. Had Argentina's armies of operetta invaded Chile in December 1978, they
would have been defeated by well-trained armies who knew what they were
    trained for, and why!
PS. A good reference: Argentine General Martin Balza's writings.

15@ If you watch the videos with the Argentine fans sons you clearly will gear the offenses they have made to Chilean people.....even the song was to support a sport team......first they told us traitors dor our support to UK and Falklanders and after aobout our death people from the earthqake & tsunami on 2010......very friendly neighbors, don´t you think (if you can think mononeuronal brain, of course)....??? And, considering they are guest in the championship host country it's twice serious their behaviour......
But, I can recognize it, some players from Argentine team have been very polite and have expresed peaceful words inviting to both teams fans to have a good behaviour before, during and after the match as it´s just a meter of sport not a war..... Mr. Mascherano is one of those gentlemen.......as much as very good player.....So hope the best be the winner......and if the winner is the Chilean team better, of course......
On the other side, Mr. de la Maza is one of the best journalistn from Chile as Mr. Lanata is in Argentina, and he just refuted the wrong concept from those Argentine hooligans that bullyied us with their songs......Fortunately, this fans were just a little hatred bunch, cause the most Argentine fans are very nice people.....

“Falklands' war: Chilean top commentator defends Chile's role in supporting UK”

In my opinion, Chile doesn't have to defend anything. It was merely one friend helping out another in a time of need.

What did the USA call the “Lend Lease” program in WWII? oh yeah, that's right they said that they were “Lending their neighbour a garden hose to fight a house fire”.

We here in the UK salute our Brothers and Sisters in Chile and thank them for their support and their friendship. Long may it continue. Over time, I hope that we can in some way pay them back for all the kindness and support they have shown us.

    Regards and best wishes

    from the UK.

The Chilean commentator is right and any Argentine that says it was treasonous just has no clue about how international geopolitics works. Of course the Chileans were afraid of the unpredictable Junta. And of course if they had already threatened my country and then gone to war with another country, I would probably cozy up with the enemy of my enemy.

    That's why I never have questioned Britain-Chile friendship. I don't even question Uruguay-Britain friendship.

The UK and any country in Latin America has the right to have perfectly good relations and Argentina has nothing to interfere in those.

HOWEVER, it is also unnaceptable that other countries in Latin America or the United States call for Argentina to warm relations with the UK, that is just as unnaceptable and will never happen. Because the UK has been an enemy of Argentina for 200 years, which is totally different from all the other countries in the Western Hemisphere. We are the only country they attacked and blockaded without provocation.

The GG was perfectly correct in his constitutional action. To any who are following this issue, in a parliamentary democracy it is the role of the monarch, or their representative in the role of a Governor General or Lieutenant Governor to act as a constitutional referee; in the event of a political impasse. It is I believe, the only actual power the monarchy has retained.
    Kerr’s Statement Of Reasons Nov 11, 1975
“Because of the federal nature of our Constitution and because of its provisions the Senate undoubtedly has constitutional power to refuse or defer supply to the Government. ... ...The position in Australia is quite different from a position in the United Kingdom. Here the confidence of both Houses on supply is necessary to ensure its provision. In United Kingdom the confidence of the House of Commons alone is necessary.” http://whitlamdismissal.com/1975/11/11/kerr-statement-of-reasons.html

@46 Isolde : “Don´t become useful to us, or we´ll also dump you when we´re done with you”.

My dear madam, I´ve never suspected esencial affinities between Sir Tristram and Sir Conqueror, as your attitude suggests. But I, for sure, have never been useful to the United Kingdom, as the role of British cipay seldom befits an Argentine, as it exceedingly does; in the case of some of his neighbours

    @59 argfellow,
Just a friendly, neighbourly piece of advice, lol.
After all, what are neighbours for?
Wouldn't like to see you just tossed aside like an old oil-soaked rag, when your usefulness has ended.
But if you want to walk into the Lion's den, then who am l to dissuade you.
    Cheers.

As far as Paulito is concerned, when Argentina lose it is because of no money for bribes.

When Chile win it is because of the skill, dedication, courage etc, etc etc of the players.

And because of the supporters who sing far more insulting and abusive songs.

You never know, a turban might look good on you, cover up the baldness.

Not sure it would be safe to let you handle a Bunduk though.

Some marching up and down perhaps?

I kind of see your point. However I thought that Paul was supporting the idea that Chile bribed and Argentina didn't.
Anyway, it's over now and whatever happened it was clear to me that Chile's team had far more attitude, conviction and faith.

Let me re-phrase: As far as talking to Paulito is concerned…..Argy BAD, corrupt etc, everything everybody else GOOD.

You may have had Messi but they had a plan and they stuck to it.

N.B. The term Soccer hasn’t really been used in the UK much since probably the 1950’s, these days it is used by the Americans to whom Football is a very different game.

    @65 Hepatia
No, it’s now 23 years and counting, remember you have been saying it for two years already.

You already have 'The Malvinas', those fantasy islands that exist only on paper and in your imagination, you're welcome to them.

We'll keep the real thing, the Falkland Islands.

    Great post there.

    Much LOLZ

The only thing I would correct you on in the whole of your ( excellent ) put down is that you forgot the capital “T” in the. it should read:-

    The Falkland Islands

As befitting our most honoured Brothers and Sisters in the South Atlantic. Who, just by being there, provide us in the UK with much merriment whilst at the same time, giving La Kampora, the argentine government and the Malvinasist such a headache.

Now that really is multitasking, wouldn't you say?

Yes, I understand that. I know what soccer refers to. However I found it strange that Uruguayan “ynsere” uses that word instead of football.

    Tarquin @ 73 and Pugol @ 70

I'm sure you're right about use of the word “soccer” in Britain nowadays. I probably it because I read several US papers/magazines and am in contact with Americans here in Punta del Este. I'm not British, and I don't live in Britain. I only visit every two or three years. However, I'm certain that in my college days in London (late 60s and early 70s), “soccer” was in common use among Brits.

However, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, and Uruguay has won 15 world cups as compared to Argentina's 14 and Chile's 1.
