In what can be considered her last speech before a Mercosur summit, Argentine president Cristina Fernandez, who is stepping down next December, hailed what she called the “magnitude of the importance of integration” in South America with the inclusion of both Venezuela and Bolivia showing the “success and the resounding failure for those who forecasted for years that the Mercosur was going to fail.” Read full article

And if she ever got her way, all of south America would be Argentine territory by default.

Why is it that argieland is always the only one in step? I'm sure we can all think back to events where argieland “led” or held everyone else back. Do all the states of latam really support argieland over the Falklands? Why do Chile and Uruguay continue to deal with them. When Kirchner wanted to replace the LAN flights with aerolineas, did Chile co-operate? Doesn't Uruguay send trade missions? There's nothing egalitarian about mercosur. It's been altered, by argieland, into a primarily political body. In the good old days of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) can anyone imagine a member being suspended for anything unconnected with trade? If it's egalitarian, why doesn't argieland have to do what the other members want?

But what a speech. It's called “stroking”. She's told all the other members of lesser argie territorial america that they're all important. Not as important as argieland of course, but where argieland leads the rest follow. They don't have a choice.

I watched some of the speech until I started yawning. At least I covered my mouth with my hand unlike her entourage when they yawned at her endless droning on. They have no manners.

What a deluded cow! You try and buy something in Brazil and then get it moved through the border into Uruguay! mercosur is no more trade united or in any way united than say Israel is with Iran.

I'm not an enormous fan of our royals, some of them are ok, some definitely not. Looking at it impartially, it was a very long time ago, this german guy with strange ways that people laughed at and mimicked and shouted a lot. I can see children of that time doing some of the daft things that he did when they were playing, like saluting in the way he did.

One would have thought it would have been better to have spilt the earl grey on this roll a long time ago I think.

1933, tell me what great efforts was Argentina putting in to recover their stolen beloved Malvinas around that time? Or was 1933 in that quite long period of history when Argentina had no interest in the islands or dispute with the UK whatsoever.

History isn't always easy to explain in the present is it.

Cristina has become a long-enduring leader of country-building independently. The central countries hate her and the reconstruction of Argentina under her and Nestor's direction. Unfortunately, the EU wasn't going to allow Tsipras to follow suite, so they decided to teach the whole Greek people a memorable lesson.
One more example of the cruelty of the powers that be when somebody tries to revolt.

The Greeks are just like the Argies, they borrow money and are too lazy to earn enough to pay off its debts. I have lived in both countries so I know what I am talking about. Of course the best bit is that in both countries it is considered normal not to pay taxes on earnings.

If you had any brains at all you would know that the Brits had a series of civil wars in the 17th Century and then chopped off Charles I head to prove that there was no such thing as 'the divine right of kings - you sure are some sort of moron to suggest that the actions of a 7 year old prove that QE II is some sort of latent fascist....

Go easy on Nostrils and little Marcos who comes running in at second place (and rate) all the time

After all, Nostils' education has only ever set him up to fail. I'm sure he thought he was on to some new winning meme because, after all, he is always having difficulty saying anything positive about his own country and government.

He can't counter arguments with examples of how his country does better. Nope. Instead he has to introduce an unrelated topic.... an 82 year old film clip of a 7 year old mocking the Nazi salute as was the norm in the UK in the 30s.

Yep, the Nazi's had just been elected to power and their goose stepping and saluting was considered farcical and commonly mocked on the UK before they had started their atrocities.

But I wouldn't expect someone with an Argentinean education built on a foundation of Argentina's homegrown fascism of Peron to know much better nor to be able to actually argue.

This is why Argentina fails so miserably. Most Argentineans can't actually put their effort to critically looking at themselves and country and trying to learn from their mistakes, they have to continually project and attack in the hope that everyone else will also ignore the reality that is modern Argentina.

The actions of our Queen when she was 7 is a small deflection from Nostril' reality. He hasn't changed his lack of education, his shrinking wealth nor the crumbling infrastructure that he is forced to live with.

@9. Cristina? Friend of yours? We already know that the cock sucker and butt spreader has stolen more than US$16 million. How much more do you know about? I recall that her trips around the world, at public expense, had her checking out suitable palaces. No doubt she'd need billions. But who cares about the peasants. If she's honest, why are investigations into her financial affairs always blocked? Being in Canada, I doubt she thieves from you. Although you should go back and pay your share.
@15. Do you understand that you're just inedible “MEAT”. Or, to put it another way, “CARRION”.

Never mind the left hand. Just count the right-handed nazi salutes. Not surprising considering Peron welcoming nazi war criminals. Wasn't Peron a war criminal? An accessory to a war crime is a war criminal.
@18. Sorry? How would a 6/7 year old make a mistake? Are you old enough to have kids that you're still allowed to see? Trot off and ask them how they feel about “wearing” a collapsed tent.
@23. Yeah, Skippy, but you're from Oz. Read a number of your comments over a number of articles. I understand. You're a product of a kangeroo and a wallaby. And your relevance to humanity is what? Some of us have long memories. In 1982, when Britain was stretched, New Zealand sent HMNZS Canterbury and HMNZS Waikato to relieve HMS Amazon. And Australia did what?

Try to remember that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth is OUR Queen. She gives a certain legitimacy to other territories. Any territory that doesn't offer proper loyalty isn't worth considering. Australia isn't worth considering.

    Nostrils
    Dany
and trying very hard but not quite there, Marcos,

Not one of them can articulate a defense for their country, their corrupt politicians, or themselves.

None of them have done anything but delve into their libraries ( all remarkably similar) of cherry-picked headlines from the Guardian and Independent.

No Magistrate or Prosecutor in Argentina would dare go against the government unless they had a good case.

No Prosecutors would have been murdered, or Judges 'removed' if the K's didn't think there was evidence or grounds to feel threatened.

One more example of the cruelty... Etc”

If Tsipras had shown up with a credible plan to repay Greece's debts then he would have been welcomed with open arms. He didn't. His position was that Greece couldn't afford to repay its debt and so wanted it cancelled but also to borrow some more while he was at it. I suggest you go to your bank manager tomorrow with a similar negotiating tactic and see how far it gets you.

As for cruelty, the bad old EU have insisted that Greece increases its retirement age to the same as it will be for me. Is that not fair enough? Or in your world should I work longer and then transfer my wealth to the Greeks so that they can retire earlier than me? Surely I would be the victim of the “cruelty” in that scenario?

Queen mum's favourite author was P.G. Wodehouse. Wodehouse gives an excellent summary of what the establishment thought of Fascism (Hitler, Mussolini, Peron etc...) with his depiction of Roderick Spode:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roderick_Spode

At one point, Wooster tells Sir Roderick: “The trouble with you, Spode, is that because you have succeeded in inducing a handful of halfwits to disfigure the London scene by going about in black shorts, you think you're someone.

”You hear them shouting 'Heil Spode!' and you imagine it is the Voice of the People. That is where you make your bloomer. What the Voice of the People is saying is: 'Look at that frightful ass Spode, swanking about in footer bags! Did you ever in your puff see such a perfect perisher!' ”

I have seen more Argentine presidents than you can count, but none like Néstor except Cristina. Argentines are fortunate to have a government that has run counter every single idea propagated by the “experts” of the developed countries, while managing to take the country out of the misery where those “experts” had led it, while creating a strong state with social inclusion and strong domestic production. I tip my hat to Néstor indeed.
