Jul 29th, 2015 - 07:08 am - Link - Report abuse 0Why, are they plotting to invade half of Venezuela and take control of their entire EEZ?
Numpty!
What a typical load of latam bullshit. The border was settled by arbitration in 1899. The matter wasn't raised again until 1962. Out of time, surely. PROVOCATIVE and AGGRESSIVE? Who detained an oil exploration vessel conducting seafloor surveys on behalf of the government of Guyana? Time for the Royal and US Navies to take a hand?

Jul 29th, 2015 - 10:37 am - Link - Report abuse 0Get rid of Moon and/or get rid of the UN. At least get it out of the free world. It seems to be a place to gather for dictocrats and a location for shopping sprees of what they can't get at home. Dictocrats...GO HOME.
Venezuela, already, is one of the biggest oil rich countries in the world, and yet because of the crime and corruption under Chavez and now Maduro, it is a complete economic basket case. Now they want to steal other peoples oil. Watch out Guyana as I think Argentina might also have a claim as you are on the continental shelf of Argentina (which is any land mass), and bordering the Argentina Sea (which is anything blue and wet).

Jul 29th, 2015 - 01:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Venezuela's claim to Guyana's territory is based on uti possidetis juris (their borders at the time of independence from Spain). UPJ is only customary international law and only applies to those countries that opt in to use it. Britain, Brazil and France have never opted in to use UPJ. UPJ has never been used by any court or tribunal without the consent of both parties. It is therefore not applicable to any sovereignty dispute between Venezuela and Guyana. The Argentineans also try to use UPJ in respect of their Falklands' claim.

Venezuela is sovereign and is properly following the international laws.

@5 The UN building is neutral ground, unfortunately, not US soil. It would never have happened if it was a trap for all the despots - though it would have been more productive for a while.

Jul 30th, 2015 - 01:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0Well Mr Maduro, it you are really serious about 'solving' this dispute, a dispute completely made up by you and your cronies in order to try and distract your people from the complete clusterfeck you've made of Venezuela, then you should be taking it to the International Court of Justice, which is, after all, the only body in the world that can rule on this dispute.
Jul 30th, 2015 - 05:15 am - Link - Report abuse 0The UNGA is a talking shop, and it has no power to do anything.
Good luck with that.
In the meantime, Guyana, should be inviting the UK and USA to come and do some military exercises, and show Venezuela just what it'll be facing should Maduro try and follow the Galteri route.
The issue was decided by arbitration a long time ago. Venezuela is now choosing to ignore that. Venezuela is another rogue State
