Donald Trump continued to dominate the Republican race for US president by causing further controversies in the first debate. The tycoon's refusal to rule out a third-party run drew boos from the audience on Thursday night. And he stood by offensive comments he has made in the past about women. Read full article

Quite correct. Unfortunately it would seem this sector has found it's voice. A worrying development. I shudder to think this odious man has a chance to enter the White House.

@3 Do you think he will? I rather think that like UKIP at the UK elections he will bring out the voters to keep him out of the White House. Just because he is noisy doesn't mean he will win. He has time to upset a lot more people before voting starts.

Trump is a moron and lacks many things. I can't see how they say he was a winner? Perhaps he can sway, ohh and ahhh the GOP demographics, but taking that shit to main stream is another story.
Now I am not a conservation....nor a liberal, but in MHO I feel that Kasich looked like the most sane one up there.
Don't you think FOX made it so unprofessional of a debate? Before the moderators were rallying the audience like a WWE wrestling event....WTF! This was FOX hosting a GOP beauty pageant.

#3 Keep reminding yourself this is a party election not a general election. If you want to know where they stand overall, check out Quinnipiac Polls. The probelm now in American politics is unfettered amounts of donations are allowed in campaigns which is why we are now equated to an oilgarch. If you have your own billionaire, you have a chance at being president. S0 sad......how can $10 campaign donations from Joe Blow compete against 100 Million in Super Pacs?

Oh.....at least Koch Brothers boy Scott Walker looked like shit.

I agree Elaine.......the politicians are so whore'd out and billionaires now control everything that is read and spoken. Voter apathy will and is reaching historical levels. But some will play with those numbers. It is true that turnout in one sense increase.....but less and less Americans are voting, or even registering 59% turned out in 2012 of registered voters. Of course some people are doing what they can to make registering as difficult as possible.

Chris you beat me to it. You guys only see snippets of trump. There has never been a more arrogant man on earth than Trump. In fact if the word arrogant never existed it would have been created and called Trump. To see him in the news daily is repulsive.

Whats more the press have been badgering him for details and he makes an ass of himself and he thinks he outwitted the pressed. His answer for a detailed plan on immigration:

“We have a lot of bad dudes, as I said. We have a lot of really bad people here,” Trump said. “I want to get the bad ones out...And by the way, they're never coming back.”

    Trump is entertainment.

There are several articles of all the business failures he's had through his life: the casinos, the private university, the line of premium beef steaks, his shuttle airline, his Miami endorsed towers that were never built...
...but on the other hand, his numerous other endeavors have been highly successful. Plus he'd have the most beautiful First Lady.

Flying in Air force One (although a larger aircraft) would probably be a step down from his Boeing 757, but he's the only candidate that would treat CFK just like Rosie O'donnell...

Unlike Obama, Trump is very pro-British.

Trump is a savvy real estate developer. So, he knows that world and how to be successful in it, albeit he has had some financial problems in the past. Other than that, he's incapable of simple things like speaking in a civil manner, trying to formulate coherent thoughts to articulate a point, etc. He's a blowhard whose stardom in the political arena will fade, probably rather quickly, in my opinion.

The only Trump who was self made and fairly smart was Daddy Dearest Trump. Fred made something of himself from relatively nothing. Donnie......was handed life. Here is a classy Trump tweet.....he spent have the night ripping Megan Kelly because he is such a maniacal egomaniac and thin skinned.

Megan was bleeding through the eyes attacking me, and who knows where as she was bleeding.

Classy guy......shouldn't be the President of a land fill let alone a country. Besides......I think he is a Democrat running to make the republicans look even more foolish, if that is possible.

“Unlike Obama, Trump is very pro-British.”

    Odd comment for a Chilean.

15 years out from 9/11, each party is becoming more and more polarizing despite all the BS and smoke. Compromise is not giving in, it's politics.....negotiating is not weakness, it's a better alternative to war (ask those who had to fight them), The good of the country is better than the good of the party, And being a good international neighbor is better than an belligerent bully. It's about time the USA get's a good President.......but then will the parties advance one?

Yes, and one of his main advisors has just quit. Trump is going to do a Farage and make it all about him instead of the party he wants to represent. And I suspect if he is not elected as the Republican candidate he will run as an independent - he could never win - taking votes from the Republicans, and the Democrats will cruise home to a win. Republicans should think about that.

@26 So you don't back Trump for President?

It is true people like some plain speaking after endless political meaningless spin. But that is a lot different to being racist, sexist and down right rude. Again I draw comparisons to Farage who spoke like the mouthy un-PC, drunk you find in any bar. It was kind of refreshing and it did force issues politicians were loathed to talk about into the political arena. But the truth is he also shook out a lot of voters determined that someone like that would never run the country. Farage didn't even win the seat he was campaigning for, though the media and polls gave him endless attention and column inches.

Trump will possibly bring some issues to the fore but he is attacking the very party he wants to represent and the GOP friendly media. The truth is he is all about Trump, not the good of the country.

Anyhoo The USA is on track to solidify our position as the richest most powerful nation in the world. EU will not look like the EU does now. It will go back to a trade area and nothing more. China may collapse or at best will become a collection of regional gov'ts with a loose Federal Gov't. The mid east will continue to battle each other as we pull out and leave them to their own devices.
SA and Africa will be non entities as they lurch from crisis to crisis with bad and worse Govts.

If he is an American Elaine you can easily see why we've become what we are. Life is a bit more than black and white. Our politicians and parties have morphed into the American Taliban that believes the earth is 6,000 old and disputes science along with the other party that defines itself as “anything opposite the American taliban”. It's not difficult to understand why we've lost out role as the world's leader of the free. When one possesses the level of respect that the GOP and Tea Ballers...(or is it baggers?) have. I believe they missed that class on leading by example. They lack so much self control. I am hoping Trump goes far for many reasons, but he is a mere roman candle. I can't wait for the finale.

@34 “Those people are monsters plain and simple.” So every Democrat in the US is a monster? You have to be kidding me. Honestly, you are better than that, you sound like TTT.

“There are sides because Odumbo pit one side against the other for the last 8 yrs.” Absolute nonsense. You want to blame him for everything but the two party system has been around longer than Obama and that has created the 'them and us' mentality.

From the outside looking in the extreme views of certain branches of the Republican party make the rest of the world laugh in the way they laugh at the K's. Next you will be telling me you are a member of the Westboro Baptist Church and you keep guns under you bed because 'people kill, guns don't'; people with guns kill.

@35 I do wonder sometimes because YB can post some really interesting stuff but can't see he is a mirror of the Argentines he hates when he uses emphatic hyperbole. I know Republicans that are heartily ashamed of the likes of Trump but can put forward a good argument for their ideals. Equally, I know Democrats that weep at the current President but remain adhered to their ideals. It is not black or white; them or us; the Republican team to the Democrat team; it is not a game of football or a war.

I understand both concepts of government but unfortunately US governments have failed to work for the good of the people they serve, they are scuppered by the extremist element and anyone with a lot of money. I don't think in a democracy people like the Koch brothers or Trump should think they have a right to impose their individual will just because they are part of the 1%.

Elaine I have my views I dont think they're extreme in the least. The Kochs are not imposing their views on people any more that the whack job billionairs on the left. Thank goodness they've stepped up.
All of this divisiveness started when I was living out of the country. The Dems started it with Harry Reid and Pelosi. Both should be in jail. They are horrible people that have ectereme views and frankly are unAmerican views. Some of the things they say are shocking to me. Supporting those filthy kids that took over the parks, supporting the black thugs againt the police, supporting eco terrorists, calling Bush and his cabinet every nsme in the book etc etc etc theyve lowered the tone in the Usa. The blame is squarely on them for where we are now.
They started it and the Repubs gsve tit for tat.
    Is that good, probably not.
But when most of the media is liberal they really have no choice.
Your views are colored by U.K. politics. The USA is not the U.K.

“The USA is not the U.K. And thank goodness.”

We are able of course to remove failing governments within 24 hours, something the US would benefit from perhaps, it does help to keep extreme actions away unless the public support them.

It's called a vote of no confidence (in the government).

The difficulty with a Presidential system is the incumbent is in for the whole of the period. Yes, they can be impeached but that does not remove the rump of the rest of the government as I see it.

Trouble is the US would be in utter chaos trying to elect a new government with the present system that takes YEARS to get anywhere near a result and just look what you get in return: The Bush Dynasty, The Clinton Dynasty, Obama and now Hilary or perhaps the Orang-utan and you criticise the UK!

Gosh, I stepped out for a few minutes………

YB You really bring down the discussion with your name calling. I respect your views but I absolutely dispute that they are the views of the majority of US citizens.

The Koch brothers have not just stepped up, they have been meddling and buying influence for years whilst remaining unelected. At least they tend to back the wrong horse but, really, should the richest men be running your country? They are unelected and the US is supposed to be a democracy. How is that system any different to the K's getting stinking rich and then buying votes to stay in power? The US is, thankfully, better than that.

I don't speak only from the viewpoint of UK politics - you should have worked out by now that my remit is much wider. I am commenting on a news item here because it was posted here and it is the right forum to do so. Honestly, by trying to dismiss me from commenting could backfire and leave you open to being dismissed as irrelevant from every discussion on Argentina.

Let's try to keep the personal insults out and have a grown up debate.

Trump won't win. He may well split the Republican vote and that will benefit the Democrats. Even Trump's main advisor quit saying Trump has lost the plot. The man is doing more harm than good to the Republican campaign.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be saying that in the company of the men I served with as you would end up picking up your teeth. Whether you want to admit it or not, you clearly have contempt for those who help you enjoy the standard of living that you enjoy.

The problem with America is that everything is one extreme or the other. Right wing wackos or left wing wackos. There has always been pandering to one interest or another, but gone are the days of centrist, pragmatic way of approaching things.

Cap, go back and read your vile psychosexual rants with Toby.
    There's something wrong with you.
Seems like you never left the playground.

I stand by everything I ever wrote.
Comparing me to Trump is a compliment.
I wish I was that successful.

The military, like jobs at the federal govt are meant to raise low income people into the middle class. That's not meant to be offensive its a fact.
Ive hired ex military folks. They're generally very good employees well trained and punctual.
Cap may have served with honir and that's grwat but the past is the past it's not all relevant now and he bring it up ever 5 posts like someone cares.

You are sad Fred....isn't that what the trolls call you because of the issue with your wife.....Bates too I think. You devote a lot of time to Argentina for a proud, chest thumpping American.

The past is the past.....is that your new script handed to you?

I would assume you take being compared to Trump as a compliment. Enough said Fred.

Hey.....want not call me a disgusting, sub educated slob, or what you call Enri :“You're a fake, a phony and probably a really disgusting person in real life.
    Just like Reekie and Think.”

We need you to class up this website. The only thing pussies like you hired are women of the night. You Fred are the pathetic' lying loser living life online line attacking the RG's. You need to go shrivel up like the worm you and Trump are. Your world collapsed and you can't accept it so day in and day out from morning to night......here you are. Whomever is the tea bagger resting on you, they've made a laughing stock of you.

Awesome retort........must be that stellar education your great American family afforded you. Is the the Lowells, Astors, DuPonts maybe? Oh I know....Forbes

You sadly are the one needing help for your inferiority complex. I have never seen such a thin skinned man (assumingly) carrying such a confidence issue as you. In fact that is most likely the real reason you post here......to build. I would say everyone here can attest that your most used words are:

    I told you so

    How posted that last year...me

    As I predicted

I bet you're a Napoleon. Your posts speak for themselve. Come to the USA....even Argentina....you can get free counseling. Hey, maybe if Trump wins he will get that single payer health system he wanted a few years back. Trumpcare.

So The Donald is subjected to some rather intense questioning, for which he seems to have been ill-prepared, and promptly arrives at Meltdown City. And the primaries haven't even started yet. He's what...69 yrs old? And still hasn't learnt how to mange his feelings in public? I suspect that, by the time the GOP convention rolls around, he will be PNG within the republican party.

He is the spiritual descendant of Barnum & Bailey, with worse hair - not a serious politician, and if I were an american I wouldn't want him within a mile of the nuclear football.

A day late and a dollar short Voice. However, I suggest using them on Trump......before he assassinates himself if he has not already. Just don;t come after me. I'm not from good schools or families and you well know. But man, the things i can do to another human being, they just don't teach that in private colleges.

    I just LOVE that typo:
”He's what...69 yrs old? And still hasn't learnt how to mange (SIC) his feelings in public?”

I mean, you have to admit it's SO appropriate!

    ;o)

He is only the object of ridicule in the UK...

He's what we use to call a “pop and thud” The round didn't leave the barrel. He is so thinned skinned that “if” he were elected President, I can see him quiting when he can't get his way through Congress.

Is he going to called Senators an ignorant ugly pigs ass? Well.....maybe.....look at Cruz. The next debate is going to be a 4 ring circus. 16 of 17 are going to be providing answers that have absolutely nothing to do with the questions. At least Trump can't claim Jake Tapper is menstruating. But, he will probably spend the night tweeting that he is a disgustingly, repulsive idiot and loser of a anchor.
