Argentina and Chile are holding their annual joint naval exercise in the Beagle channel, in the framework of the 1984 Friendship Treaty, to test their combined sea an air capabilities in the region. This includes emergency and humanitarian situations; maritime traffic control as well as search and rescue operations, operating from Puerto Williams in Chile. Read full article

The rgee navy on exercise!!!! They have no significant naval ships so send a tug and 2 or 3 RIBS to this “military Exercise”. Only hope for the RIB crews sake that they have managed to save up for puncture repair kits and swimming lessons. How on earth this can constitute a military exercise , except in Rgeeland, is beyond me.

Apparently there is and old joke in Chile....

Question, What do you do if you see an Rgee drowning?

Answer .. throw him his wife and kids.... not my joke just repeating what i was told by a Chilean friend...

If the Rgee ships perform as normal, might be a few Rgee families bobbing about in the Beagle channel. LOL

I wonder how many 'Veterans of the Malvinas' turned out to give the current set of argie cowards ideas on how to 'steam' away quicker than normal?

This is just a jamboree for the Chileans to have lunch at the famous Military eating house in BsAs!

Three reasons i am assuming that the photograph used above was taken on a Chilean warship:
1 The ship appears to be upright and not sinking at its moorings
2 The ship appears to be at sea
3 Its a warship, something the rgees don't posses anymore

BE WISE. Don't shout that load...most provably a RN ship will have to be assisted in the future.

The very last ship of a Navy assisted in the region was a RN icebreaker....that ended it's journey in Puerto Belgrano. Do you remember?

Another luxurious ship had to be assited when comming from the FI where it had been rejected for having sick people on board. Do you remember?

Ahh the true you is out ... you are an rgeeeweener.

So are you proud that your navy could only find a tug and a few RIB's to take part in this “military” excercise?

As for our icebreaker needing assistance, it is normal for any country to help ships in trouble, remember the sinking of the Kursk? a Russian sub? The British offered immediate help to rescue their trapped submariners.
At least when our Ice Patrol ship HMS Endurance became inoperable it was replaced, unlike the Almirante Irizar, 8 years and $150 million later and the ship is still in repair.

An excellent example of collaboration between sister countries for peaceful purposes that sucks the air from under the usual naysayers and warmongers. Of course, friendship between Argentina and Chile scares those who bet on hostility.

@9. Just imagine a Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer. Try an emphasis on the word “destroyer”. The Type 45 destroyer is reckoned to be be the most capable vessel of its size in the world. In exercises, the US Navy has been forced to ask the Royal Navy to switch off some of its equipment to give the USN “a chance”. Just imagine a Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer destroying everything 27.5 km on each side.
Will you be trotting out to take your chance on having your head, or your balls, shot off?

Argentine military capability almost all gone
    BY GEORGE ALLISON · AUGUST 20, 2015
Things don’t look any better for the other services, the depleted Argentine Navy rarely puts to sea, has almost no spare parts and for the most part, doesn’t actually have any ammunition

The Argentine Army has deployed on operations without some of even the most basic equipment
    https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/argentine-military-capability-almost-all-gone/

this is what happens when you have a deluded government hell bent on destroying Argentina for the sake of islands that you have never owned , run , or administered,

    Leave the British Falkland’s Alone.

Well, truth be told, two ARA vessels have already suffered turbine failures leaving them operating at less than 30% of normal operational power. Cold weather also has placed a strain on their poorly maintained navy, but everyone is cooperating and the eventual reciprocal meals/entertainment is in the back of many. (Argentines may not have enough funding to buy parts for their naval ships, but the officer's mess is always the finest!

Meanwhile, the poor sailors are freezing their ***** off...

Chile's joint exercises with the castrated Argentinian forces? You have to smile. Do us all a favour, Buenos Aires, go mad again and show the world what a deluded country you are. Global cause over the Falklands? A global joke in Latin America and throughout the civilised world. Pobrecitos.

Late this afternoon, a third ARA vessel suffered complete propulsion loss. The German built ARA Sarandí MEKO 360H2 class participant was dead in the water. Currently Chilean vessels are standing by, but it looks like the Argentines will try to manage on their own. The vessel does have auxiliary power for basic operation, but without any propulsion.

You just can't make this stuff up! The ARA Sarandí officially never was a part of the exercise, and the ship status has disappeared from update status. I'll have to wait till Monday to get an unofficial update, but the Argentine solution probably is to quietly tow it back for port. Those old B+V vessels require a high level of upkeep and I suspect the power plant is totaled.

@21 Chicureo They will just tow her back to Ushuaia and park her alongside the jetty in front of the Prefectura along with their other derelicts...

I doubt if they have a seaworthy tug capable of towing her north.......

Actually the ARA Sarandí is currently being towed north by the ARA Teniente Olivieri tugboat, based in Ushuaia. From radio intercepts, it is apparent that ALL 4 of the original Rolls-Royce gas turbines are now completely unrepairable. The vessel does have auxiliary non-propulsion power for operation, but the temperatures have been extreemly cold and the crew is miserable because there is not enough electricity to keep the vessel properly heated. (Day time temps have been averaging well below freezing very day.)

You watch, there will be a complete news embargo of this cock up.

But you have to admit that nobody but an argie would have even bothered TAKING them out of port!

It is funny though, perhaps the crew will be issued with a medal, they certainly deserve one for bravery or perhaps stupidity.

Sending an old vessel into one of the most dangerous storm prone seas during the winter with a poorly maintained propulsion plant is insanity. ...Imagine losing propulsion of your ship where 30 foot waves are not unusual...

People occasionally ask me why I chose to spend most of my career behind a signals corps desk... The answer is simply: the south Atlantic duty experience where it stormed continuously for 26 days when I was a lowly ensign...

“Sarandí was involved in an unfortunate incident on 29 November 2004, during the annual FRATERNO naval exercise with ships of the Brazilian Navy. While conducting gunnery practice shots against target drones, a technical failure of her automatic weapons system made her fire on the Brazilian frigate Rademaker, causing injuries to four Brazilian crewmen and an Argentine naval observer, as well as moderate damage to the Brazilian ship.”

You just cannot trust your friends, the argies!

When you take part in a naval exercise, you send your best and perform outstandingly, to show your piers your capabilities and strengths.

Argentina seems to view these occasions to go belly up and show how crap they are, as if we didn't already know.

I guess the Falklands needn't expect an Armada any time soon. lol.

Sad incident that's a part of naval studies in most Latin naval academies, but not in Argentina. The real danger from ARA vessels is their armament is typically passed their expiration date and because of their limited budget, their artillery crews rarely fire practice rounds.

Reading the latest assessment of the training exercise in progress, it's been a major disappointment of the ARA current capabilities. Comment made on Friday by one of the Chilean observers on one of the ARA vessels: Several of their ships are still using radar from the late 70's!

When I entered the Chilean Academy, Argentina even had a carrier in their fleet. Today their navy is a pathetic excuse of floating scrap.

As I've said before though, their officers mess is second to none...

I just love that the whole of SA are taught how 'not to do it' using the argies as an example: absolutely precious.

Lol. If it was 1833 it would have been crewed by 80% British sailors.

Now crewed by 100% Argentine sailors-the sailed version in 1833, also went further.....
