Britain cannot allow Spain to continue to ignore international law and bully Gibraltar, said MP Andrew Rosindell following the latest incursion in Gibraltar waters, this time a Spanish Customs crew that actually fired shots to a British-Gibraltarian fishing cruise. Read full article

Spain hasn't gained a thing. And Britain hasn't lost anything.

If this is the new status quo then who really cares?

We care. We have daily incursions by Spanish state vessels, breaking laws and committing acts of piracy. In recent weeks we have had a/ the SVA sailing straight into a demarcated swimming area on a beach; b/ helicopter and seaborne invasion of our territorial waters in the middle of the night without prior warning; c/ attempted boarding, theft of a local boat and abduction of its crew by the Guardia; the SVA shooting at people sailing off our shore, only 1km from land.

And the UK, which is responsible for 'upholding sovereignty' does nothing while we are no longer safe in our own waters due to the criminal activities and acts of piracy committed by the third-world nation we suffer a border with.

The Spanish concept is that, with these repeated incursions, they 'show jurisdiction'. Each time they do so the UK sends a protest note, and the Spanish answer that “the waters are Spanish”. It is the UK's duty to therefore uphold its sovereignty of the waters by action, rather than merely failing to respond to Spanish lies.

The next incursion by armed gangs must be met by the Royal Navy who should assist local police with the arrest of these armed pirate gangs.

@3. I assume that you are resident in Gibraltar. Then DO something. Here in the UK, I have approached my MP many times on behalf of Gibraltar. What have you done? Some years ago when the Overseas Territories Consultation was in progress, I suggested that the Falkland Islands and Gibraltar started responding. Not by complaining to the British government, but by telling the world the truth. I cannot tell whether the Falkland Islands Government saw my suggestion, but they started moving around the world telling the truth. They publicly respond to argie lies. What does Gibraltar do?
The truth goes like this. Gibraltar was ceded to Britain IN PERPETUITY in 1713. Its “territorial waters” depended on where British forces sited cannon. You can take your pick of which piece of international law gave Gibraltar “territorial waters” not dependent on gunfire. UNCLOS I in 1958 or UNCLOS III 1982. Spain is relying on a 300-year old treaty, where circumstances have changed. Gibraltar should be making clear that 33-year old international law is what applies. Mobilise the population of Gibraltar. It's been done before. Demand that the Government of Gibraltar arms the RGP's vessels. Miniguns and GPMGs perhaps. Demand that the RGP turn up to “incidents” ready to open fire. Be prepared to sink spanish vessels. Issue a public announcement that, in future, there will be one warning and then the RGP WILL open fire. Demand that Britain provide a “proper” Gibraltar Squadron. Keep the boats the RN already has there, but demand that the next two Type 23 frigates to be decommissioned be sent to Gibraltar. Request that the RN send out skeleton crews to enable the frigates to manoeuvre and open fire. Call for volunteers from amongst the people. Go public. Tell the story from 1704. Mention how many times spain has breached the treaty. Ask why the treaty should still apply. Tell the world what the spanish do every day by land, by sea and in the air. Buy weapons and fire from the shore!

Rosindell is just another right wing white suppresor who at one time belonged to the Monday Club and today is a member of the Freedom Asociation. two extreme right wing Clubs.
    Alan Clark, who was Minister for Defence Procurement in Thatcher´s government once said of Monday Club, which Rossindell belonged;
“ They are all mad, They are a prickly residue in a body politic, a nasty sort of gallstone”.... an playright Davis Edger said of them that they are Patenalism,.imperialism and racism...... so his comments in reference to Gibraltar are nothing new....

Spain can say the same and with more reason. What strange allies we
keep ( UK) who are are Spain´s EU and Nato partner AND YET THEY HAVE A COLONY IN SPAIN.
what Spain does with its port (Ceuta) is up to them and nobody else.
Actualy now that theyare letting the Russians into Ceuta. I ask myself
why are they not letting the Russians into the other enclave called
Mellilla. Handsome profits to be made

You were wrong on the other blog,
And still wrong on this one,
Your warped sense of right and wrong plus your anti views ,
Is a wonder you? Troll at all…..

It’s time Spain gave Ceuta and Melilla back to their rightful owner, Morocco. Everyone in North Africa knows the corrupt authorities in these two colonial enclaves use them as smugglers’ transit points for contraband and drug dealers’ conduits for their poisons into Europe. They are a threat to the whole of Europe and prove the sheer hypocrisy of the Madrid regime in its manufactured outrage over Gibraltar.

*9 before making ignorant remarks DO READ ON THE HISTORY OF MELILLA AND CEUTA AND and then maybe we would take you for an educated person, but at present you are worse than a hill billy.........
*8 like I said before before britain has a COLONY IN SPAIN.It has a colony
another EU and NATO country......bloody shameless on Britain.

I wouldn't know if MP Rosindell is right wing, left wing or Martian, but what he says makes sense to me.

Probably Spain is hoping for an armed reaction, thus creating a “martyr”. Trade Unions worldwide do it all the time.

Just sink a Spanish ship, in Gibraltarian waters.
lf they don't get the message then sink another.
Won't take them long to behave.
    These people only respect force.
So to get respect, USE force.
    Simples.

@6. Alan Clark. That would be the guy that admitted that he had been “economical with the actualité ”. Seems to be someone worth ignoring. Still, shouldn't speak ill of the dead. Anyway, not enough space to list the questionable associations of Labour figures.
@10. Where's this British colony in spain? You just make yourself look stupid by suggesting that Gibraltar is a colony. So spain has two colonies in Morocco. France has eleven colonies around the world. Denmark has two. Finland has one. The Netherlands has six. Norway has two. Australia has four. Can anyone think of anything more ridiculous than a European country suggesting that two exclaves on another continent are INTEGRAL parts of itself? However, the most important feature that foreign trolls cannot grasp is that Gibraltar has twice voted democratically to continue its association with Britain. And its population is diverse. By comparison, the majority of the populations of Ceuta and Melilla are ethnic spaniards. What's that popular term? Occupied territories. Spain also occupies other Moroccan territories. In 2002, Morocco quite properly took possession of Perejil Island, that is only 250 metres from the Moroccan shore and 13.5 kilometres from Spain. Spain used its Army, Air Force and Navy to re-occupy the island.
@13. I'm surprised that you're advocating violence. How do you feel about sinking argie vessels or shooting down argie aircraft that get too close to the Falkland Islands?
@14. Curiously, spain already pumps spanish effluent into the Bay of Gibraltar. And from a point quite close to Gibraltar. Then there's filthy Algeciras.

Wow the pot calling the kettle black, Type in Matanza-Riachuelo river in google and see what comes up, and look at Buenos Aires and Brazil coastlines. If I was a swimmer in the Olympics I certainly would refuse to take part but heho it is your country so why should we be bothered. Reap what you sow.

    @16 Conqueror,
l've always said that we should be more assertive.
l agree with SOME of the things that you say, not all, but some.
We need to have a robust reply for as l said, these type of people only respect force & mostly our politicians are a shower of limp-wristed, “don't- upset-the-boat” snouts in the trough.
As soon as there is provocation from the RGs, spanols or whoever, it should be immediately jumped on.
Messing around with this type of people sends the wrong message-that we are weak.

Tell Madrid that if any Spanish vessel enters Gibraltarian waters without permission, it will be sunk. Then sink the first Spanish ship that ignores the warning. End of issue, leave Gibraltar to get on enjoying its wonderful lifestyle.

*20 Why don´t you come down to Gibraltar with your yaght and try to sink one, cowboy!!!
*16 Morocco DID NOT EXIT AS A COUNTRY WHEN SPAIN occupied Ceuta
and Melilla, therefore it has no ligigibility towards these enclaves...
THAT IS WHY MOROCCO CANNOT TAKE THE CASE TO THE UN!!!
WHEREAS Spain existed and Britain invaded and converted the area
into a COLONY.... do read some history dear chap!!! you are wet
behind the ears on this one....

*17 Look where your prime minister was swimming this summer!!!

    great fantastic,
    so you will agree then,
that as ARGENTINA did not exist before the Falkland's, it to has not legal claim or any other claim.

you cant have it both ways,
    but you will try.
