Brazil's largest oil workers' union advised Petrobras that it plans to begin an open-ended strike against the state-run oil company starting at midnight (0300 GMT) on Friday. The strike is in protest at a recent cut of about 40% in investments by Petrobras and the planned sale of about $15.1 billion of assets, the union, known as FUP, said in a statement on Tuesday. “Petrobras on Tuesday said in a statement that it had been informed of the planned strike and has scheduled a meeting for Thursday to discuss the renewal of the union contract.”

Great! Don't renew the contracts (effectively sack them) of these deadheaded commie bastards until they return to work and agree to more reasonable terms of employment.

Don't they know about the corruption that their Party has carried out over the years? Perhaps they should go and ask The Chief Crook Lula to cough up a few of his millions to help out.

    Petrobras will eat itself.
Hopefully the PT will go down with it. They are intertwined to the 'nth degree, from previous union links to corruption at the top. Not to mention the insidious nepotism twixt the two.
Are those at the bottom beginning to realise that their idols have feet of clay?

This strike will harm PB even further. To all effects it's virtually broke ; with a market value of about US$ 45 billion - a fraction of what it was in 2005, before the PT started screwing around with it - its current debt is R$ 351 billion (roughly US$ 100 billion), selling off assets, and presuming that the debt, if it doesn't get any bigger, will compromise the profits of only the next 20 years, the future does not look too rosy. And the strikers want the company 100% in government hands ? the shortest path to bankruptcy, unless the PT is kicked out and the company is run professionally.

I imagine it will end in a 'fire-sale' to all those 'western' companies so hated by brasso.
Hopefully they can rebuild it and turn a profit for Brazil.
Although sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if those profits 'disappeared', as before.

Jeez the unions are braindead. Socialists are so stupid. Brazil will never improve until it has labour reform. But with so many vested interests it'll never happen.

The alleged fortune of María Gabriela Chávez, daughter of the late Hugo Chávez, has recently stirred up controversy in Venezuela. Media reports suggest that Chávez’s daughter has US$4.2 billion stored in bank accounts in the United States and Andorra, which might make her the wealthiest person in Venezuela.+

Critics have pointed to a supposed inconsistency: how can one support the so-called Bolivarian Revolution while enjoying such enormous riches? However, the premise of this critique is flawed, because it assumes that Chavismo emerged to uphold rights and equality.

Yes, off topic, but I am posting this because MP is too lazy.
    So fuckin' sue me!

I understand that this bastion of the 'bolivarian socialist revolution' spends the majority of her time shopping in NY's Fifth Ave and in select boutiques on the Champs Elysees ...
She does apparently have a job of sorts...
“The daughter of former Venezuelan firebrand leader Hugo Chavez has made her debut as a deputy ambassador to the United Nations, amid controversy at home and abroad concerning her appointment.

Maria Gabriela Chavez told the Associated Press: ”I'm here to learn,“ after a “day of solidarity,” which saw representatives of Syria, Russia and Venezuela line up to condemn the U.S. for imposing sanctions on the Latin American socialist nation.
Chavez has been widely criticized for being a so-called ”socialist socialite,“ who apparently has virtually no employment history prior to her U.N. appointment”
“...[Maria G.] Chavez has also been at the center of a corruption scandal in Venezuela in recent months, standing accused of reaping illicit cash by overpricing rice imported from Argentina. Her post outside of Venezuela may be a method of allowing her to continue to draw a stipend from the state, and offer her diplomatic or parliamentary immunity, ”
