The Argentine government and its economic crimes bureau, Procelac, filed on Monday a complaint against Spanish group Marsans for an alleged move to “sell” a lawsuit filed before the World Bank’s ICSID over Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral expropriations, to Burford Capital, a speculative fund. ICSID stands for International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. Read full article

So how old is the lawsuit?

And how long has Argentina had to settle it?

Debts have always been traded as they have value.

Aerolineas Argentinas is run by La Campora and used to launder money into the bank accounts of the K's. $2m per day the 'essential service' is costing Argentines. Most of the Argentines I met could not afford to fly but took the long distance buses.

I was booking some flights in North America and Canada recently and certain airlines will not take tickets issued in Venezuela and Argentina. Because they don't pass the money on to the airline.

Similar claims appeared in La Nación and Clarín but never proven, in court or otherwise.
But not even Clarín or La Nación have gone as far:
“Aerolineas Argentinas is run by La Campora and used to launder money into the bank accounts of the K's.”
Elaine appears to have privileged information no one has yet seen. Good for our courageous correspondent! No doubt she has significantly researched the matter and is able to back up her claims.

Have you bought that plane ticket yet? What are you afraid of?

It's no secret that the airline is not only run by La Campora, but that is the only airline used by La Campora. Being in Argentina one would learn that quickly.

You ignorance of Argentina is staggering. Get out of NA Quique.........Take your hijos and return to the homeland. If ignorance is bliss Quique, you must be as happy as a pig in shit.

“It's no secret that the airline is not only run by La Campora, but that is the only airline used by La Campora.”
I would not expect less that the members of an organization like La Campora would be favouring AA.
Now, for the “It's no secret” source, I'd rather stick with Clarín system:
“A trusted source said.” “Well-informed sources.” ”An official who is close to the minister/president/chief of staff.
Now, Captain...which city did you say you live in?

If Enrique can't even fathom what is wrong with having an organisation like La Campora then you can hardly expect him to understand other issues.

@12 Do you think he has ever attended a meeting of the La Campora Youth Movement? Seriously disturbing.

I sometimes think Enrique is just winding up up because who could be that naive of the situation in Argentina?

If he does love his homeland so much, why is he too afraid to go there? Flights from Canada are quite reasonable and I am sure his contacts there would offer him a couch to sleep on. I am guessing he does not want to ruin his fantasy.

It seems that any form of criticism of Argentina is seen as a grave form of disloyalty. Therefore people like Enrique, shaped by their indoctrination during their formative years in school, find it impossible to find any sort of fault in Argentina.

It is a great shame because the highest regard you can have for your country is to criticise it and seek to improve and make changes. The fact that this option is closed to many Argentineans is why their country continues it stately decline.

Those that don't learn from history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them.

What city did I live in.....when? That is a rather open question do you not agree? Are you intending to pay me a visit? Should I buy some mate?

    “Should I buy some mate?”

Just make sure there is one in the chamber and it's cocked and locked!

That would put us all out of his misery.

I half wondered myself Chris if that was to be a subtle threat from Quique. Even if not, I do agree that is is definitely suffering and should be put down. Though I can't rightly say that he has ever plucked a compassionate chord in me, nor has he on my violent side either. One thing is certain, if that side shall ever surface again, he would not want to be on the same continent with me as his enemy.

So I ask again, Quique, what is it you are asking of my residence?

Boston is my last listed domain. I am still in the state. I have several federal licensing's and required registrations, I should be easy enough to track down Quique.

@19 Need I remind you that this is a forum meant to discuss issues pertaining to Argentina. While Enrique can often times be insufferably misinformed, indoctrinated, and down right aggravating; it's probably best to abstain from pommeling him. That would only legitimize his statements, which to me are comical.

In fact, one of the attractions to this forum is seeing how some individuals will remove themselves from reality in order to support ideals which don't work, while denying the inherently wicked tendencies of the corrupt politicians they defend.

When I was living in Argentina, this forum (not always the news items), was a place where I could blow off steam and realize that there were some people paying attention to what was really going on when the foreign press was calling Cristina a “savior of the poor”. My main concern was the rise in crime and corruption was a constant burden until I decided to leave. Now, I can look at these events with a degree of detachment. Without the stress, my friends said I started to age in reverse when I moved to the U.S.

Let the trolls troll. It's entertaining. Maybe, karma might take effect and maybe they might fall down some stairs into a dark basement and get locked down there for 18 hours.

    @19 Capt

I haven't posted in months; but I thought I'd throw in my two cents as I wait for a flight.

I guarantee that such is not a “subtle threat” from Enrique. As someone who has sat and had a few (very enjoyable) pints with him, that is not his nature or his game. I believe he was simply making an innocence (albeit clumsy) reference to your distance (ie your city) from BA when referencing anonymous sources to the subject at hand.
I would be shocked if Enrique has ever threatened anyone in his life; and I doubt that anyone could locate anything but the most fleeting, tame and subtle barbs or insults originating from his quarter on these pages (which, granted, can be the most frustrating thing about him of all; he stays out of the gutter).
Enrique and I are pretty much diametrically opposite on every political and economic policy under the sun; which made for an interesting afternoon; and much more productive than talking into an echo chamber. I must say he has lead a most interesting and fascinating existence; one of which he is far too modest in conveying.

You usually are one of the more insightful posters on MP; and dare I say it, but I suspect you and Enrique would also have a very enjoyable afternoon tipping a few back, if the opportunity every presented itself (keep the sidearm at home though). I do sympathize with your vexations though.
