A lot can happen between now and the vote. You have to wonder what methods are being deployed by the K fanatics other than this:

Speaking to a very rational friend in BsAs last night she confirmed the internet is being swamped by scare stories that if people vote for Macri it will be the 90's all over again and worse than it is now. It is being stated as fact that if Macri is elected then all the progress on women's rights will be reversed and gays will be persecuted.

Internet campaigns can be powerful to the terminally stupid - we have seen it here with TTT/Brasileiro - so don't under-estimate the impact.

@4. Do we care? Twelve years of political experimentation in how to destroy a country whilst pretending to “improve” it.

Here in Britain it's the same scare stories about what will happen if Britain leaves the EU. It's amazing how the scarers never say how individual British lives are improved by membership of the Fourth Reich. Lots of unverifiable “facts” about “balance of trade” including the lies because they never mention the Antwerp/Rotterdam Effect. For those who don't know, “exports” from Britain to anywhere in the world that pass through the container ports of Antwerp or Rotterdam are “counted” as exports to the EU. Thereby revealing that the EU always lies.

If there are scare stories on the argie internet, it seems to me a parallel with the Falkland Islands comic strips of years ago. “You're too stupid to be told facts that you can check on. You might check and find that the ”government“ is lying. Besides, this is the best way to present garbage”. The obvious conclusion is that whoever presents scare stories is lying.

I wonder how Britain survived for so long. How did it manage to build three worldwide empires, win two world wars, as well as beating Naploleon, provide the most copied versions of a judicial system and a parliamentary democracy? All without “Europe”. In the same way, argieland was at its most prosperous when the economy was operated by the British. Kirchner has always been a power-hungry thief. Fits in well with the argie “viveza criolla” character defect. If we look back through argieland's history, it doesn't have a clue. And the new “economic model”? Best known as “wish fulfilment”.

A source close to Massa, with access to his campaign’s internal polls, tells me Massa’s supporters are government critics who are likely to vote for Macri “by a bigger than 2 to 1 margin.”

    http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/news-columns-blogs/andres-oppenheimer/article41711442.html

“My opinion: Argentina’s election is coming down to a choice between continuity and change, and — in a country with zero economic growth — Macri’s message of change may have the most appeal. Scioli could still win, but only if he changes course and distances himself from the government. Either way, this looks like the end of the leftist populist cycle in Argentina.”

Oh, the rumour and fear campaign is stepping up. The main thrust is to link Macri with Menem, as in 'vote for Macri and you get another Menem'.

Amusingly, Scioli has been named a fascist because he is not as extreme as CFK. Doh! (Politics 101 is needed).

Most worrying is the complete lack of access to information from outside of Argentina. I am putting together some articles about the economy that can be spread around …… suggestions welcome.

@12 They may all have defective personalities so why not concentrate on the actual policies and what will be best for the future of Argentina? Take a look at the market reactions to a move away from the K's. He might well be a Trump-light figure but unless you elect someone market-friendly Argentina is well and truly stuffed.

There remain many questions asked about Daniel Scioli and what he would really do if he wins the Nov. 22 election. His measured, middle-way style hasn't captivated voters.
On the other hand, there are few doubts about what Mauricio Macri would do if he takes the presidency Dec. 10.
Whatever the result, it will be a product of the political pendulum occurring in most democracies around the world.
Only 10 days ago I had the pleasure of seeing the pendulum going the other way in Canada, when a seemingly all-powerful conservative government was taken to the ground after a decade of corporatist, authoritarian excesses.
If in power, Macri and his team will of course attempt to change wealth distribution to restore the lion's share to corporations, large landowners and foreign masters before his political capital runs out.
Just like Cptn Poppy, I will not be directly affected by the election results. However, I worry for family members, friends and country people about the effects a return to the old politics of dependency will have.
But as they say, the people will have the last word.

Ahh, I would love to but there are some very questionable people on here and I don't want them stalking me around the internet. (Not you, obviously). You won't have to look too hard on FB to find such discussions.

I suppose we should credit the K's with having thoroughly brainwashed people into believing they have made Argentina great. That they have chased away all foreign companies and now Argentina is self-sufficient and able to manufacture everything they need. Because it was all the fault of Johnny Foreigner that the last collapse happened.

They do not seem to understand economics 101, or know that there is no money left and they have been living off pay day loans from China. They do not know that the K's have stolen and squandered the family silver.

What is more worrying is that they do not seem to have access to any information outside the country or do not know how to find it. Obviously, I am helping a little but it is not really my remit to get involved.

All very fascinating watching utterly delusional people in a discussion.

This election is far from over, there are a lot of people, even from the upper class, who hate Macri and fear he will shut down all the state subsidies and handouts and destroy what remains of our industry. And sadly, he will have to do this because of CFK's economic policies, but Macri will be the one who will be blamed.
CFK may be out but don't think for a minute that this is the end of Peronist rule or of populism in Argentina.

One player nobody has bothered to name here is the Argentine mainstream media, which in a short period made CFK the killer of a prosecutor, Axel Kicilloff be employed and paid pesos 400,000 by YPF, Maximo Kirchner own an off-shore account with US $40 million, and Aníbal Fernández responsible for a triple murder in a notorious ephedrine case.
Wonder why Clarín would publish, on front page and with large headlines the above stories, all fakes with the exception of the Nisman case, whose extended investigation allowed the allegations to cast a shadow over the election process?

Gee, Captain, I did not know you were privy to the right information!
You are ahead of most, because Macri has send what could be called mixed signals.
So please, illustrate me and the MP readers so we can reach the light.
What Macri is going to be the one if he becomes president?
That of the re-privatization of AA, YPF etc.?
Or the one who said 'I am going to keep them under the state.“
Would be the Macri who said ”wages is one more cost, and to lower costs we have to lower wages.“
Or, the magnanimous Macri of late who promised to reduce poverty in Argentina to ”zero?”
Please can't wait to read you wise words!

“Gee, Captain, I did not know you were privy to the right information!”

Tobi, pull your panties from the crack of your ass. You have problems with me making commentary statements based on your posts? You certainly have no issue with it.

AA is a lost entity as it is the Personist airlines, more so the La Camporas airlines. Everyone in Argentine knows that. Re-privatizing AA would be like salvaging the Titanic. YPF was outright stolen and is now incompetently managed AND on their knees begging for foreign investment.

Your entire post is all over the place Tobi....You poke Macri for addressing poverty and then you poke Macri for claiming he ignores the needs of the poor. Which is it? Have you ever heard........to reach the moon you aim for the stars?

You know tobi, you can't continue reading about live in Argentina and believe that you know what it is like.

GO THERE AND SEE FOR YOURSELF......WHY DO YOU NOT GO?????

Macri managed the city fairly well. Well enough to be elected TWICE. Gotta love that Metrobus....no?

    Do you like Noquis?

What will Macri do? I have no idea. I unlike you do not profess the ridiculous things you do. I do believe that he will attempt to bring Argentina into the international community rather than away from it and closer to Venezuela.

DO YOU LIKE THE WAY VENEZUELA IS ???????????KIRCHNER SUPPORTS HER!!!

I also believe Macri would more likely than not work to create an environment of opportunity. You seem to think a President must focus on one group and one else. In all societies, some peoplke are relegated to a lifetime of government subsidies, the infirmed and disabled. But you don't get a lifetime of handouts because you gave birth. In Argentina as in the USA, lifetime handout need to end if you are capable of work....PERIOD!

SO, in short, what will he do? I have no clue. At the end of the day he/s a politician and as a former soldier, they all suck to me and it will no no effect on my. But, he is not a pero

Aerolineas is a money laundering vehicle for the K's. It loses vast amounts of government money on a daily basis. Why not privatise it and save the money the government is pouring into it (the K's coffers) and collect the corporate tax. LAN is a profitable airline so why can't Argentines do what the Chileans can?

YPF was stolen and is now worth considerably less than the government agreed in compensation.

Unless Argentina becomes market-friendly there will be no investment - the country is desperate for investment - and what little money is left will run out.

You don't have to like Macri, Enrique, but if you love Argentina you need change.

The role of the government is to make life more livable and for Macri that is the people of Buenos Aires. He did something to easily get elected twice.

In response to your very relevant questions:
The deans of 28 provincial and national universities have issued a call to vote for Scioli as a way to protect the significant advance in education of the last decade.
They are concerned by Macri's dismissive comments about “universities everywhere” as a bad sign of what could be in store if that candidate becomes president.
From 2002 to present, 15 universities have opened, and funding increased from pesos 1.9 billion to 40 billion.

    @42 Captain

I can pretty much answer that. Middle class income in Arg. ranks from 12K to 25K a year depending on region and professional level. That includes lower middle to regular middle class (the gap to upper middle is about 18K from regular middle so there is no point in making a comparison there).

Consider that inflation in Argentina is so robust that it not only affects the peso. We have inflation in dollars too!

Having lunch in BA's financial district is more expensive than Rome. Two years ago you could get a decent lunch downtown for 5 dollars. That would be USD 7.50 today.

Of course I have opted for the typical USD 1.75 ham and cheese pebete a long, long time ago.
