    Thought Argentina would have been involved during the 2nd phase of this important exercise.

    The second largest economy in Latin America is quite conspicuous by their absence, oh wait that is Mexico now isn't it and they were taking part.

    So, the third largest economy in Latin America.......oh wait, that is Colombia now isn't it and they were participating too.

    Argentina does at least feature prominently in the US courts.

    I'm surprised the mad cow hasn't been frothing at the mouth over the militarisation of the area.

    Militarisation doesn't get much heavier than this.

    Is ARA Sarindad still stuffed?

    Chile has powerful friends... Argentina has...Venezuala? TFFW

    Last time I saw 'George Washington' she was westbound in Paso Largo on the morning of 10th May 2008... only two Chilean 'black boats' for escort ... them as you aren't meant to see in daylight... the ones that allegedly hang out down Canal Murray ( a pass banned to RGs) ready to put the boot in if the RGs every even think of playing up.

    Good to see her back

    No Argentina?

    well, our defense minister is quite busy trying to appoint his kids at any gov office he can, just like he did with his daughter. He clearly has no time to deal with these small business ...

    A shame. A HUGE SHAME for Argentina. Back in the early XX century Argentina was a considerable naval power, with US made dreadnoughts and cruises. Back in the middle XX it had aircraft carriers and navy jets. Now we are lucky if our ships can even float.

    I see Chile´s air force and navy and army and I want to cry of rage.

    But, of course, all this is (___insert evil foreign force here___)´s fault, not ours.

    Please FI annex Argentina.

    The Argentinian navy was invited to participate ... as targets. The invitation was later withdrawn when someone realised that stationary targets weren't sufficiently realistic.

    (the above commitment was offered in jest)

    One really needs to be on and underway to be in awe of it's shear size of a Nimitz class.

    Mmmmmmm......I wonder id Mr. Tinman would care to board this US asset as he did with the c 130? Will the scarecrow kackle about militarizing the South Pacific?

    I wonder if they will be putting in somewhere for a liberty call?

    @13 Philippe

    Au contraire, my dear chap. UNITAS are sea exercises and in port training involving countries in North, South and Central America ... the exact same mix it has been since 1959. The British conduct their own regular exercises with all the nations involved.

    By not inviting the Brits, is this not by default accepting that the Falkland Islands are indeed under their own control?

    Just saying.

    Although we love to take the piss out The Dark Country and the utter lack of military hardware and brains we must NEVER forget one thing: THEY DESERVE IT!

    LOL.

    If you guys really knew Argentina,
    you would understood that the real and truthful reason they cannot take part is--
    1, their first fleet is training in the med,
    the 2nd fleet is visiting China,
    and the home fleet will be Touring the panama canal whilst passing though it,
    so sadly they will miss the American fleet,

    chuckle chuckle.

    @13

    Sorry Philippe, you have either misread or misunderstood. UNITAS is an naval exercise for Latam countries in Latam waters, The Falkland Islands are part of the British South Atlantic Territories including the South Georgia, Sandwich Islands and Queen Elizabeth Land , nothing whatsoever to do with Latam and never has been. Oh and never will be.
    Hence the reason we are not involved.
