Young Falkland Islanders, Ulia Sytchova and Vicky Collier recently represented the Falkland Islands at the 7th Commonwealth Youth Parliament (CYP) in Darwin, Australia from November first to five. Read full article
I hope they have a good time in Australia and get to tell the other young people of the Commonwealth about the Falklands and Argentina's imperialist colonial ambitions in that area.
For the youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow.
Well Mr Timmerman, Australia must acknowledge the existence of the Islanders-so that's everyone agrees with Argentina ............except for Australia.
Argentina and Australia. Both large ex-colonies with many resources.
Vestige- Since both studied for several years in England , they are well up to date with life options in other countries - and appear to have made their choice.
7 - I doubt there was much choice involved since they seem early 20s.
Probably did their highschool in England, graduated and returned to the outpost.
Given some resources and options no young woman could really want to stay in the greater metropolitan area of Stanley city.
Where are the coffee shops, the shoe shops, the clubs and genetically compatible males.
UK mainland is a much smarter option.
Vestige-120. The Islands have moved a bit from the ancient tribal customs of male dominance and women told what to do - maybe still the norm in Argentina, but here people aged 18 either sex can make their own decisions where they live.
Both went to college and university and decided to return to the Falklands to live and have a career. Feel free to ignore the facts if they don't fit with your vision of the islands. That is your problem.

Considering their jobs it must bring them into contact with military personnel.
I would have thought that 1300 young people.... the majority between the ages of 18/30 would have provided enough genetically compatible males with the added advantage of no regressive Latam genes.
12 - or maybe, just maybe, Im not the first to think this.
look, anyone whos not past it, a flag waving nut or just plain broke/otherwise unable would be out of that hamlet and back to civilization so fast the local curtain twitchers wouldnt know what hit them.
Thats why so many only live there seasonally - youd go bonquers.
oooooh look ladies - home furnishings, and perfumey stuff.
In your attempt to be clever and glib, your smarminess gives you away.
honestly, curtain twitchers?? I can't think of any real ESL Argentine resident using such a colloquial turn of phrase, and combined the ongoing condescension and misogyny, you sound remarkably like a number of other Trolls who don't really live in Arg, or reflect the true feelings of educated Argentinians.

Well, if you are a shallow, consumer orientated led excuse for a human being, maybe you cannot understand people who enjoy and are happy in this environment. Maybe they should swop their life styles for the best of Argentina in the villa miserias.
I am sure that estancias in Patagonia are just a few miles from shops, theatres and the trappings of civilization.
There are isolated communities all over the civilised world. The people there seem quite happy with their lot.

Thanks, Vestige. Good demo that Australia or the Falklands are both likely to spare them from the misogyny of a visit to Argentina.

How many islanders have you seen go barefoot?
Argentines need shoe shops because they shoot themselves in the foot so much, so having to buy shoes every day.
Where in the Falklands are the debts and threats from 'vulture funds?
Where are the massed tyre burning displays?

Misogyny and deep insecurity, me thinks...
'nuff said.
I imagine these women have no a Gide qualifications appropriate for their positions.
Nov 12th, 2015 - 06:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0However, the Arg Trolls seem to regard them much as they regard the witless Arg. Ambassadors, Ms. Nahon and Ms. Castro.
If callous deceit is a qualification, Castro and Nahon have it in spades.
