United States President Barack Obama congratulated Argentine president-elect Mauricio Macri on his victory in the runoff in a phone call, according to a brief release from the White House. Read full article
Macri has sent out good signals about cooperation.
He knows that to forego Western help for that from dodgy countries, isn't going to help Argentina.
But the offers will be to help Argentina, which Macri would be wise to accept.
He doesn't appear to have much to offer us other than to stop bulling the islanders. Though even that small gesture will enable him to start recovering Argentina's economy, which to Argentina means billions in real terms, much more than the Falklands are financially worth to them.
Regarding the Falklands, this doesn't mean the UK will capitulate to Argentina.
Argentina is in the shit, and the UK holds some of the cards to help them or ignore them.
Macri will raise the Falklands, but will have to accept:
If talks are held on the Islands, MLAs will have to be present.
Macri will have to be told, read the correct history of the Islands before opening his mouth for example the 1850 Southern Arana treaty
If he or his voters get belligerent, that's it, help will be withdrawn, however regardless of Macri, even if he is sensible/friendly, the defences on the Falklands will be modernised and Argentina's forces are the worst they have been in their entire history.
The UK holds the cards, but you are right if you suggestthe UK does have a habit of giving too much away when people are friendly and clamming up when people are belligerent.
The peronist failure to understand this basic British psychology, is why CFK did not as she promised 'deliver the Malvinas Myth.'
In fact she made that myth further away from reality than ever.
Odumbo is such a hypocrite. He loves fracking and oil exploration everywhere but the USA.
I can't wait until he's gone.
I bet he goes around badmouthing the USA just like Carter.
Anther pissed off liberal with a failed Presidency.

signals is one thing,
action is another
Very true-if Macri is clever enough to supress the macho bullshit about the Falklands he knows the UK will run to help.
That does not mean he won't be scheming behind the scenes.
But he would be wise not to make the mistake Galteiri made in assuming British willingess to negotiate over the Falklands (a mistake), means we were going to lie down and die.
We give everything away until the 11th hour when we realise we are 'being had'.
Then, we always seem to pull something out of the hat.
It will be the same with Gibraltar.

So, the USG will not be asking any questions about the “Falklands”. Why would it?
Nor will the USA object when Argentina returns Santa Cruz to the Falklands within the nest 25 years.
The Captain is a Brit pretending to be an American. He cannot admit to knowing the date of your queen's birthday. So you should not use that date as a reference marker since it places him in a difficult position.
Ask him if Mercopenguin's 'Washington correspondent' is well. This is a question that he can answer.
The only queens we have in the US don;t come with a pedigree of royalty. But if you search you can find some Hep C.......do you ask because you are looking for a date? Northampton (not to be confused with England) Massachusetts is quite open and liberal, I suggest you search there, especially Smith College.

There is no more of significance to be said about the Malvinas. And the USG is fully aware that the UK will be returning the Malvinas. So, the USG will not be asking any questions about the Falklands. Why would it?
