Brothers in gullibility more like, all religion is a con and all believers have been conned (normally from birth) they are not bad people, merely victims.
It's not so much the religions that are the problem as the interpretation and practice of those religions by certain fanatical sects within those religions. As for the Soviet Union being better off without religion that would account for the millions who died under Stalin's rule and that of his Communist successors - would it?

Both very interesting, and wise, comments.
For my part, as an atheist, I do agree with many of the core tenets of the key Abrahamic religions.
Such as;
Don't kill people.
Try to live in peace.
Respect your Parents.
Don't be jealous.
Don't Steal.
Even the Pork/Shellfish thing was just Health & Safety, 'back in the day'...
Etc.
Basic Social Rules, and to protect the 'Tribe', who-ever you maybe...
Propagation of the Species, yes? Basic survival.
All good, so far...
Until we have...
THERE IS NO OTHER GOD, BUT....
Then it all goes wrong, and we have thousands of years of war....
Any suggestions on how to fix it?
Or is Mother Nature culling us?

Could it be that if they had religion, they'd do more good things?
