Business friendly Mauricio Macri was sworn in on Thursday as Argentina's new president pledging an open and transparent government and issuing a call for unity among Argentines, leaving aside useless confrontation and arrogance, and putting all emphasis on learning the art of agreement. Dec 11th, 2015 - 11:21 am - Link - Report abuse 0I would have thought the word he was looking for was 'negotiating'.
Perhaps during their RCC service today they can all listen to what the Chief Sky Fairy has to say to them.
Argentina really does need to make it into the 20th Century: there is little hope they can make it into the 21st during the first term. I hope he has a second one.
an open government, calls for unity and 'the art of agreement'
Dec 11th, 2015 - 11:26 am - Link - Report abuse 0does he mean, in the spirit of unity and friendship that everyone [great Britain and the Falkland's ]
will agree everything they want,
all in the name of open government...

I understand your euphoria but I am a pragmatist and a realist with 46 years of dealing with the liars in the unions of the UK.
@3 There are a couple of old farts posting on here who are only happy when moaning about thing and bigging themselves up. We have to wonder why they are so insignificant when they claim they could do a better job than an elected President. What the hell were they doing their whole lives and why aren't they powerful, rich and running a country somewhere?
Dec 11th, 2015 - 05:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Did anyone pay attention to Alicia Kirchner's speech? She is begging for money already because Santa Cruz is broke and 'the model' isn't worked there. They no longer have the line of credit direct from the Casa Rosada and can't pay the wages because, obviously, they spend more than their income. Rather like the way they ran the country. Oh, and Max TOLD Alicia she must meet with President Macri. Who is running things down there?
Liberals are delusional. Look at the ridiculous pie in the sky, rainbow themed post from Elaine.

An American's idea of what constitutes a liberal politician is very different from the reality in many countries.
Dec 11th, 2015 - 09:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Indeed, most of these conservative parties winning power elsewhere are more aligned and akin to the US Democrats. Few countries have mainstream parties as far right as the US Republicans.
That's if you slavishly follow such a facile, simplistic and one dimensional spectrum of pure left and right politics.
@14 Yes, I posted the meaning of Liberal in another thread to explain it to YB. 'Liberal' is not an insult when you understand the meaning of it. Especially when you look at the antonyms.
Dec 11th, 2015 - 09:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@12 :).
Liberal in the USA is tossed around as a criminal activity thanks to entertainment networks like FOX news. We were discussing the same as what Skip said about liberals and conservatives. The GOP is broken and fracturing. It's an amalgamation of varying levels of conservatives. The extreme tea baggers have essentially killed the GOP of what it use to be. The last great thing they did was Eisenhower highway system, they even promoted healthcare for all people in the USA........in the 50s.
Dec 11th, 2015 - 10:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Carson is going independent, Dump threatens to. The GOP is fracturing and can't maintain this type of action. It will be interesting to say the least watching this all unfold until the convention.

Dec 12th, 2015 - 12:29 am - Link - Report abuse 0We have an extremely prosperous country because of that.
I don't always agree with any party on either side of the divide. Especially if they veer too far from the centre. Our last Prime Minister did this and thankfully our system let us get rid of him.

Actually only Troy knows as I met him in Vancouver last year. Age does not always confer wisdom as you yourself prove..... along with CFK and Conqs. Nothing but ad hominems and quite inconsequential on an anonymous site like this.
Again you attack my country but I won't do the same. You can't deny we are prosperous so you attempt to belittle it. We are probably the most prosperous democracy outside Europe and North America. If that is, in your opinion, solely because we rely on others protecting us...... then we are indeed smart and canny to keep choosing the right partners.
What is this?
Dec 13th, 2015 - 12:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0Not 24 hours of Macri, and the united Hate-argies club of 12 years is in crisis? No common enemy and people to hate, insult, belittle, and debase?
You don't attack his country because you are a typical ANGLO. You attack my country, and even non-anglo ones, but too yellow to attack the USA. Australia, Canada, and the UK have been lapdogs for so long it has even imbued into the population at large.
There are so many things to attack of the USA: their income inequality is now approaching Brazil's, they are the laughing stock of the world in the area of mass shootings, if you get sick in the USA you end up paying 2000 US dollars just for a nurse to check your pulse, they spend 1/4 of their budget on military yet they don't have enough bombs for ISIS, their latest helicopter, long distance bomber, and fighter jet ALL are an engineering disaster (over designed and a money black hole), they have almost no high-speed train infraestructure, their roads and bridges are crumbling, their education system pre-university is something like 40th in the world now in results, and one could go on an on. They have been in decline since 1963 or 1969 now.
I just said it for all the chicken Anglos.
I will say this however of the USA, they do protect you anglos and Euros. They spend all their money so you don't have to spend it. I don't think the USA should do that and let Germany, France, UK, Australia, Canada, Italy, etc spend the money on protecting Europe from the outside. Of course the USA actually likes this agreement because it means they have complete control over your territories, and you are not true sovereign nations, but they can't keep spending like that for long. Everyone is DUMPING US bonds now, no one is buying them. That's why they have to raise rates, they know the world is flooded in worthless US bonds, and the FedRev has no choice but to choke the economy to soak up the paper.
They'll raise rates and the latest US housing bubble will implode.
I, for one, always welcome the erudite and often insightful posts from both ElaineB and Skip.

PS: Bought tickets the day they came out. Little bro and I are doing a midnight viewing on IMAX.
Skip, Cap said you were 40. I assumed you were young because you're still in school and live in a group house.
Dec 13th, 2015 - 01:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I am young. Younger than you. I assume he was making a point that you find ways to use age against anyone because they are either too young like me or too old like him to have valid opinions in your eyes. However if I was 40 then what would you say...... seems he has his answer in that you think 40 year olds should conform to a certain form that doesn't include university and share houses. I find it fascinating on why that is so. What if I was 40, divorced, living alone and in a dead-end job that I despised. Would my opinion be more valid?
Dec 13th, 2015 - 08:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I'm not 40, though closer to it than Captain Poppy.
I am in school however I returned to school of my own violation for a career change. It isn't the first degree I've studied. The first was in politics.
I live in a share house for companionship and to reduce costs. I rent out my investment property. Currently I live with 3 international students from Colombia. I only work part time because I study also. So reduced income means reduced means.
The rent money I save helps to pay for holidays like my recent 3 months in Mexico. It is also helping to pay for the year that I will spending in Canada come July 2016.
Honestly, none of this detracts from what I am capable of writing on this forum. If knowing all this (which was not secret as I've only repeated in a single post what I have said before in multiple posts) gives you ammunition to denigrate or belittle me then go ahead.
The aim of my life is not to make lots of money. Never has been and never will be. If you feel that I am less because I gave up an extremely well paying job to become a student again and rent with other students then that says a lot more about your priorities than mine.
Doesn't change my opinion of you because I already had you pegged.
You have me pegged?
Dec 14th, 2015 - 12:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Do tell.
I will save my comments on a maybe 30+ year old living in a group house for another time.
Of course you will, because ad hominems help to deflect from the paucity of ideas in your comments. It's why they are your default fallback.
Dec 14th, 2015 - 02:41 pm - Link - Report abuse 0And after you have regaled us all with your comment on how you imagine my life...... nothing will have changed.
No matter how superior you think you are or how inferior or disappointing you imagine my life is...... you're still commenting on this site along with me.
Indeed you probably outpost me 2:1.
What you ignore or forget, is that on an anonymous forum the only currency you have is your ability to communicate an idea and propagate an opinion. Yours invariably boil down to a constantly repeated, simplistic and facile sentence.... it won't be long now.
As repetitive and informative as Hepatia's worthless prediction.
Please feel free to judge me at your convenience..... I'm sure it won't be long now.
Most or many of my it won't be long now posts have come to pass.
Dec 14th, 2015 - 02:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Lots of pretty words, yur skoolin mus be doin youz sum gud although they don't say very much...
So tell me about me, you said you have me pegged....
As I've said before, your predictions are like the theorem involving monkeys, typewriters and Shakespeare.
Dec 14th, 2015 - 08:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Of course some of your predictions will come right. Simply because you make so many of them and make them suitably broad.
But most of them are like confetti littering this board. Used for effect and then left to lay ignored. That's not talent, just the law of averages. With average being the key theme of your posts.
I'd be interested in knowing what predictions you got right. The ones no one else predicted. Because so far all you do is predict the same as the crowd. Nothing ground breaking or even insightful.
And yes, thank you, my schooling is doing me some good. However, as it is Urban Design I can't even credit it for the ease with which I deal with you.
And pretty words hey? Well I guess that is one way of describing them. If you need help understanding any then please simply ask. I'd try to effect the base lexicon you use but that would just dumb down my message.... surely you know what I mean.
Skip, Try not to be obtuse, I know you were around when I was arguing back and forth about Brazil crashing long long long before anyone else acknowledged it. That's one you can wrap your head around. There are plenty more and you know it. You're just trying to be a dick because I called you young and dumb. Come to find out your not even young.
Dec 14th, 2015 - 08:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I've found people who communicate who use flowery words are usually emotionally unstable, insecure, or anxious.

can i goad them to give up details? ... and finally, can I impress them enough to make them think I am more clever, or better than them..?
pathetic - that's how you stack up.

Dec 15th, 2015 - 11:03 am - Link - Report abuse 0That's a very interesting way of judging people. You must do it a lot. I guess that is why your impression of me is sane, smart and steady.
Flowery words... interesting way to put it. Base but interesting. The fact that you didn't use articulate, eloquent or perhaps sesquipedalian is causing me mirth.
You've been predicting economic armageddon for dozens of countries for years. And Brazil having a recession is your crowning achievement? Blind Freddie could see that coming. The US will have a recession.... see how easy that was. Nice, broad and general. One day I'll be right and then I can gloat.
Insightful? Hardly!
As for Think, I rarely agree with him; but he is articulate, intelligent and knowledgable. Only an ignoramus would assume that thinking that means aligning with his opinions. The difference between Think and I is that he uses his talents to deceive people. And he enjoys it. His comments speak to certain personality traits as do yours. Quite disturbing.
Voice
A day late and a dollar short. Typical!
I didn't say my impression of you was sane, smart or steady, and I certainly didn't say you had Think/Voice motives, just that you post very similarly using flowery language to conceal your insecurities.
Dec 15th, 2015 - 12:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Really smart people write tight and easily understandable sentences.
Anyhoo, If you think over the years my postings were too broad to be relevant you should stop reading them. Also if they were so broad and inaccurate why oh why did so many people argue with me about them. Why oh why did you and some others get pissed when I said told ya?
As I said before you're not as smart as you think you are.
If my sentences aren't easily understandable, isn't that a reflection on the reader? Because you are the only one to have trouble with the vocabulary that I employ. And seemingly this is a recent affliction.
Dec 15th, 2015 - 10:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Your ignorance and comprehension disabilities can be rectified through self improvement.
People don't usually disagree with your 'predictions' for two reasons. Not only is the board literally littered with hundreds of them repeated constantly but because you are the most defensive poster on here and will shout them down and usually throw in a few personal attacks against them and their country if they even try to disagree. Your recent behaviour is proof of this.
You've yet to provide any proof of how insightful your previous predictions were. Your told you so's are not worth the screen space.
I may not be as smart as I think I am, however I am still smarter than you. Really isn't that difficult.
Skip, Statistically, it would almost be impossible for you to be smarter than me, and I know I'll never hear the end of this, but I'm in the 99.97 percentile for IQ. I am very sure of abilities.
Dec 15th, 2015 - 10:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I told you about your phrasing because it reflects poorly on you not me. One of your teachers should have pointed that out to you by now. I have no trouble understanding them.
I am merely pointing out when people are long winded they usually don't fully understand the subject matter or there's something wrong with them.
Toby used to use ridiculous words and phrasing, technically correct but unreadable.
Your phrasing is not as bad but it is haughty and sophomoric. It sounds like your trying too hard.
