Jan 08th, 2016 - 06:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0why should the British public help the argentine economy when they are trying to destroy the Falkland's.
so they say.,
A friend in BA who has been out of work for almost a year was offered a new job yesterday. He'd resigned from his previous job because the sillyness and stress had become too much.
Jan 08th, 2016 - 06:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So that is one small encouraging sign that there is work becoming available for non-gnocchis which must be good for the economy.
Interesting to note that the +1.7% last year was an unsustainable blip so that a 0.7% growth this year would effectively be an understatement of the true effect on the economy once the gnocchi factor is taken into account.
What do you buy from them?
Jan 08th, 2016 - 06:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0For Gnoccis read Ñoquis.
Jan 08th, 2016 - 06:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0(the word ñoqui ... is now also used for a government employee who doesn’t do any work but turns up at the end of the month, around the 29th actually, to pick up his pay check.) http://www.argentinaindependent.com/life-style/food-drink/when-noqui-day-rules-argentina/
There won't be any growth, this is but a small blip coming from CFK pumping the economy full of pesos.
Jan 08th, 2016 - 07:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They still have a mountain to climb against the wind.
The U$8B they were expecting from the Farmers turned out to be a lie.
The U$8B they think they're getting from banks won't happen until the holdouts are paid.
The peso is still falling
The subsidy cuts have not gone into force yet
and on and on
We buy a small amount of wine, Malbec and Tempranillo mostly, blueberries and presumably some soy as animal feed. No beef as far as I am aware because its pumped with things which are banned here (same with US beef). But, in the general scheme of things, trade is quite small. After WWII we imported lots of Argentinian beef but that trade died because of our ban on steroids etc. When I was last in Chile I was told that about half Chiles wine exports go to the UK, we are their biggest overseas market.

Jan 10th, 2016 - 12:57 am - Link - Report abuse 0It is my understanding that the UK buys considerable amounts of Beef from Argentina, but hard facts seem hard to find....
Anyway, here is the USA angle on what CFK/TMBOA did to their trade in 2013, Argentina Provides A Lesson In How to Ruin a Beef Industry

Let's hope Macri does better.
In practical terms the amount that comes in is tiny because most of it doesnt meet EU regulations. Brazil does better, but trying theirs its very poor quality compared with British or Irish beef reared on grass and silage. Off to Torres del Paine tomorrow for some climbing and fishing so Chilean beef is on my menu.
Jan 10th, 2016 - 09:53 am - Link - Report abuse 0It will take a decade to get the cattle stocks up enough to sell quality meat abroad.
Jan 10th, 2016 - 02:41 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Last time I was there the only beef you could buy at Coto was lumps of un-named beef of questionable quality.
Even in the nice restaurants the beef was subpar compared to what you could get in 2002.
It will probably never recover.
Here you go rottingroadkill/brasser.
