Even as the number of new cases of dengue fever continued to rise in Argentina, the Health Ministry performed a rapid about-face and disavowed a statement made on Wednesday that the outbreak constituted “an epidemic.” Read full article
The Health Minister needs to get the country an Epidemiology Director who is prepared to face facts and carry out the necessary control of these flying health risks.
He may be correct about the numbers but what about the new risk, especially to pregnant women and their unborn children: does he even KNOW about that?
I knew this was likely and said so in the other blog.
...there has not been reports of evolution of the disease into the more severe strains of the virus, such as dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome, which can both be life-threatening....

Maybe this bloke has not heard about the Dengue-related fatality in Misiones a couple of weeks ago. I got word from the north that Misiones is getting an average of about 50 new Dengue cases every day and new cases are reported even in Mendoza. Don't know how accurate that is.
@6 That seems reasonable. And the report of 50 new cases a day in Misiones seems plausible. Article is still up:
Misiones es la provincia con más casos y acá en Iguazú se confirman 50 casos por día, según confirmó ayer el ministro de Salud de la provincia, Ramiro Villalba.
And yesterday:
En el corazón del dengue: en Puerto Iguazú atienden dos nuevos casos por hora

The gov't doesn't spray for mosquitos. I had to hire a private company to do my yard/woods once a month to keep in under control.

All three Dengue cases in Mendoza are (Argentine) tourists from the Misiones province in the north.
