    If they are just the “suspects”; perhaps the concrete proofs are missing / destroyed.

    The public prosecutor misses all. I think the PF, MPF and the mainstream media are linked to opposition political parties.

    It needs to rethink the constitutional functions of these institutions!

    Freedom of Speech is one thing. Defame, vilify and destroy the lives of people with lies is something else.

    I wonder if this woman is 'laughing all the way to the bank'?

    Soon, perhaps they will both be crying all the way to prison!

    That will bring a smile to many faces.

    Lulu is a dirty scumbag.

    They probably already have the connections of the theft and bribes.
    They're probably looking to catch him in lies.

    If they ( the press in Brazil ) were to defame vilify and destroy lives then presumably the LULAS could sue them for defamation of character? If bot why not ? Don't tell me they don't have the same laws as the UK and USA, if they don't tough titti.

    “The Lula Institute, the former president’s NGO, issued a statement in which it reported that “to have the apartment of fact and law, one is required to pay the difference between participation and the value of the property,” something Lula's family has not done so far.”

    “something Lula's family has not done so far”.....And it NEVER intended to - pay the difference between participation and the value of the property - because it was the negotiated value of the bribe.
    Strangely though, despite Lula's wife Marisa Letícia having supervised R$ 777,000.00 worth of structural modifications to the apartment during 2014, doubling its value - before the Feds caught on to the scheme - not to mention the purchase of furniture and expensive imported kitchen items (fridge R$ 10,000.00, microwave oven a R$ 5,000.00), to the order of $ 380,000.00 chosen by Marisa Letícia, and paid for by OAS, Lula claims the apartment was never theirs, and they had no intention of occupying it...which is a lie, because when the sh*t hit the fan, they had no choice but to decline the “purchase option” in order to avoid being caught red-handed. But the Federal prosecutors aren't stupid.

    @2 BRasshole
    I'm sure you'd love to “rethink the constitutional functions of these institutions!”, by simply abolishing them and instituting Lula as life-long Emperor of Brazil.........“Quer um nabo no teu rabo ? então continue apoiando Lula, seu bostinha iNginorante...... ”

    @2,4. Why don't you abolish the police while you're at it? Then no criminal would ever get caught.

    But let's consider something quite simple. Lula was previously interviewed as a witness. Now he, and his wife, are being interviewed as suspects. I would guess that a prosecutor doesn't determine someone is a suspect without cause. Just wait and see where your idol finishes up. Here's my take. He was so stupid that he didn't know what was going on. In which case he's so stupid that he should never hold office again. Or he's bent. And he'll never beat this one!

    Lula's lawyer has now invented this version of the facts : it was Leo Pinheiro, the owner of the construction company OAS, that “insisted” in reforming the triplex apartment, for Lula (exactly to his last wish...).......and that Lula only became aware of the exorbitant cost - over R$ 1 million - through the papers....which is why he decided not to “buy” it..

    Now who negotiates real estate involving millions, through a newspaper ? no personal meetings to decide the details - and the cost - before the work begins ??
    These lawyers should be disbarred. They are worse than the criminals they defend.

    Only a matter of time and the crook Lula will have his hands behind his back being frog marched. Hope they kick him in his little nuts. But then the fun might really begin with idiots like Brasso and other socialists trying to cause shit and saying that it is all a conspiracy by the right to bring Lula and PT down. Well it aint no conspiracy he's as dodgy as a three dollar note, and hopefully the protesting socialists get a good shoeing too, I would kind of like it in some way that the army came in and really go to town on these thieves.

    @7 No. We have no law to protect us from slanderous media.

    Lula tried in 2007 to analyze a law project that would prevent abuses, but the conservative Congress supported by the media prevented further examination precisely alleging the death of the Freedom of Expression.

    @13 BRasshole
    This time you are only slightly misinformed. While there is no 'specific' law against slander - and this because the Judiciary system believes there are other Laws which can be applied - anyone feeling offended has the right to prosecute the offender, and if the latter cannot back up his statements, he could become subject to prosecution and have to pay a fine.
    The funny thing though, is that Lula threatens journalists all the time for writing about what he considers lies, difamation, etc, yet he never goes through with the threats....is it perhaps that he doesn't dare draw any more attention to his evil deeds ??
    So you see Brasshole, it IS all about 'freedom of speech'....one of the foundations of a true democracy - not the PT's version of it.
