“The coming visit of President Barack Obama is irrefutable proof of what we have said all along: Argentina is reinserting itself in the world, maintaining but also opening links with all our other partners and potential associates”, Foreign minister Susana Malcorra underlined following the White House statement that the US president will be visiting Argentina next 23/24 of March. Feb 19th, 2016 - 06:29 am - Link - Report abuse 0OK, coffee boy: He has neither a majority in the house or senate. He can't even get the cubar trade restrictions repealed. Every treaty he has signed this year is still lacking a senate ratification and may not ever receive one. Obamy care will be repealed next year. His supreme court nominee won't even get a vote let alone confirmation unless he is right of center.
Feb 19th, 2016 - 07:53 am - Link - Report abuse 0Obamy's legacy is made and it isn't pretty. He has presided over the biggest post recessionary non recovery in US history.
Every day jimmy carter thanks God for Obamy thus being absolved of the distinction of being the worst president in American history.
Obamy has rendered himself irrelevant.
I only hope that these financiers and rentiers do not come to Brazil.

Still your president.
Feb 19th, 2016 - 11:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0Skip.....watch what happens to the GOP and tea baggers this year because of the obstructionist policies. Now, Cruz is in court......the circus continues.
Feb 19th, 2016 - 11:32 am - Link - Report abuse 0I think Obama will be remembered as a disappointment. Some people thought he was going to start a change for good in the US after years of Bush´s madness. He changed nothing. He improved nothing. And worse, he may be the reason why some nut as Trump may win.
Feb 19th, 2016 - 11:33 am - Link - Report abuse 0I appreciate good, productive and constructive relationships with the country that still remains as the #1 world power.
I celebrate he is visiting our country.
I celebrate we are leaving behind years of friendship with the shame of the world (venezuela, cuba).
I celebrate we may be leaving behind this latin-american.brotherhood nonsense which has only be good for bolivians and paraguayans to come here and live out of social welfare (while an argentinian in bolivia has to pay for everything).
In all honesty, I hope we keep a good and mature relationship of mutual benefits and interests with the US whoever wins.

To quote the notoriously unreliable wikipedia
Feb 19th, 2016 - 12:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0In the United States, during a presidential transition, the outgoing lame duck” President has lost many of the intangible benefits of a Presidency (e.g., being perceived as the default leader on issues of national importance) but the incoming President-elect is not yet legally empowered to affect policy. This ambiguity in the roles of the President-elect and outgoing President creates the potential for a leadership vacuum, which may be most acutely felt during wartime or times of economic crisis”.
Obama has thrown away the goodwill which existed from most of the world at his election.

Feb 19th, 2016 - 12:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0-- Just like when Obama visited Afghanistan.
So Argentistan can soon dream of inserting itself on a par with its sister nation, Afghanistan?
Come to think of it, Afghanistan is a great deal more tranquil, economically successful, and reliable than Argentistan.
Reinserting? Sounds quite disgusting to me!

I suspect Macri is using a different form of 'native cunning'(vivez criolla-spellcheck?) than the previous Argentine administration's native cunning which appeared to lose support from every country that could effectively help Argentina.
#7...absolutely right.
Feb 19th, 2016 - 08:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@15 (vivez criolla-spellcheck?)
Feb 19th, 2016 - 09:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Viveza criolla is a Spanish language phrase literally meaning native cunning describing the national manner of life in Argentina. It is characterised by opportunism, dishonesty, trickery, thievery, deceit, and egotism.
What will Macri do when Bernie Sanders, who's now leading Hillary Trump and Bush (not to mention Cruz who even most Republicans hate), becomes President? Like the East European leaders under Gorbachev he'll be hoist by his own petard, no?
Feb 19th, 2016 - 11:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Anyway I'm just here to wish a happy birthday to the amazing Cristina , the once and future President :=)
BK....with the DEA well entrenched there, next year you can wish her feliz cumple behind bars.
Feb 19th, 2016 - 11:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Oh....don't hold your breath for a Sanders WH......or better yet please do.
#19 Who will beat him? Not Hillary from the looks of things. And however unready even I would have thought the American electorate were for a socialist, the Republicans look even more extreme. I mean objectively, according to the polling data.
Feb 19th, 2016 - 11:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As for Cristina behind bars, don't hold your breath or (I won't add the last bit as I'm nice). Though I imagine Macri might try if he gets really desperate - a standard authoritarian trick when faced with a popular and capable opposition leader. But in the long run I think such a gambit would expose the weakness of his position, plus there'd be an almighty defence campaign worldwide

British Kirchnerist
Macri might try if he gets really desperate - a standard authoritarian trick when faced with a popular and capable opposition leader
So popular and capable that her party has split. They are even saying the FpV may disappear.
You go Cristina!!!!! Make Macri's life easier.
Obama is about to run 20 flights a day to Cuba in an effort to normalise relations and affirm to the Cuban people that Washington no longer has any aggressive designs on Cuban sovereignty.
Feb 20th, 2016 - 04:49 am - Link - Report abuse 0Wouldn't it be wonderful if Macri could run some flights from Buenos Aires to the Falkland Islands, normalise relations, and affirm to the Falkland Islanders that Buenos Aires no longer has any aggressive designs on their sovereignty?
#23 Not so much a split as 12 opportunists leaving for the basest reasons, helping make it easier for Macri to back down before the vultures. Still there are some positives, in that those who have stayed should be a stronger more committed opposition, no more debacles like the Scioli candidacy. The departure of some Blairites from my own party Labour would be not all bad for similar reasons...
Feb 20th, 2016 - 08:43 am - Link - Report abuse 0You don't seem to understand American politics from googling. Even if he does when, how will he pass anything in the legislature? The super delegates currently side with Clinton. I would rather see Sanders than Trump, Rubio or Cruz.....but Cruz is in courts now in 3 states so he will probably be a none factor. I'd rather see Kasich get the nod, but that will not happen in the GOP. In both runs, it's going to be a race right to the conventions.
Feb 20th, 2016 - 02:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 0And, between the DEA assisting Argentina and Stiuso returning, don't be surprised from the drug trafficking and corruption trials. Watch as cunt lips Kirchner's cronies start dropping like flies on horse shit.

If Sanders has good showings or wins in either state she's in trouble.
Plus FBI's 150 agents are about to drop a bomb on her and maybe Bill.
Sanders letters have just been released when he was Governor and the bastard wrote to The Blessed Margaret and complained about the IRA thugs being in jail and on hunger strike.
Feb 20th, 2016 - 07:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0At the time of course the stupid mick-yanks were funding the IRA bastards, 'back in the home land - somewhere most of them had never been. I lost some of my friends to these despicable examples of humanity in their bombings in the UK.
BUT, how the times have changed since 9/11. Not so funny now is it that some rag-head camel shit desert dwellers murdered thousands of innocent Americans just by flying planes into the twin towers. Who would have thought it?
Anybody with half-a-brain that experienced similar acts in the UK.
Fuck Sanders, I hope some raghead puts a cap in his arse.
Sanders as in Bernie was a governor. Did I miss something?
Feb 20th, 2016 - 07:29 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Man.....the news is really holding back in the USA..between 150 agents and Bernie Sanders being a governor. Maybe Kasich has a chance then.....lol.

Cruz and Rubio in 2nd.
Interesting times.
Shitty times if you're an American. The parties put up pieces of human shit to choose from. But when you consider the education levels of most Americans, it's hardly surprising when you read 10% of recent American high school grads thought judge Judy served on SCOTUS. Yeah......interesting times all right.

In fact the establishment candidates are mostly out now.
Man are we digressing here.
Feb 21st, 2016 - 03:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0One does not get to run as a demoshit or republicrap unless the party condones it, so yes, they put up. Either way they all crawled out of a cesspool and are human feces on their best day.
As for the Burlington mayor, with 320 million people, they are all entitled to their opinions. A lot of Americans don't like the English for many reasons, just as a lot of Americans love the royals, honestly something I don't get or ever will. Either way, who cares what they think, I don't unless it impacts me. Though, if the islanders have the right to self determination why can't the Irish? Not a real question so you needed answer.
I must say that I am looking forward to seeing the results of Cruz's court cases in New York, Illinois and Texas. I wonder if Cruz would allow an Iranian born American to an American mother and Iranian father born in Iran run for president before Cruz ran for president and relinquished his Canadian citizenship?
Maybe if trump does win the White House, he will annouce....naw......just kidding about being a conservative, I'm really a liberal democrat like all my speeches and history indicates I am. Now....onto a one payer health system.
Cruz will be found to eligible to run for Prez.
Feb 21st, 2016 - 07:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I would have no problem with an American kid with an Iranian father born outside of the country as long as he/she was raised in America.
No go if he/she spent formative years outside of the USA. Like Kenya.
Trump is better than a Socialist or a Crook.
If Trump wins that means the Republicans will have an even larger majority in both House and Senate.
That would be fine.
Trump has won another one,
Feb 21st, 2016 - 07:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0how many does he need before they declare him the candidate for presidency.
Around 1280......this is his best reality show yet.
Feb 21st, 2016 - 08:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0We seem to disagree on Trump......but I'm good. As for a crook or a socialist, Nixon is dead and I don't recall Sanders wanting to take over industry and have the government run businesses. But that's your opinion........I really care little about it. Time will tell the ultimate outcome. W did it in for any GOP bid in the WH. Besides, Trumps entire history up until last year shows hI'm a liberal democrat......I'm starting to think he's a trojan. When he gets the GOP nod, his VP will really be interesting. Rumor has it he wants Brown. I liked him.

@47 The Kirchners no doubt figured that if they didn't pay the debt for long enough, that the bondholders would just die off and their obligation would magically disappear.
Feb 25th, 2016 - 02:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Well, since they've been screwing around, a lot of the bondholders ( many of them retired Italians and Argentines) have in fact died off. But of course that didn't make anything go away.
No doubt more creditors will die before Argentina gets around to paying this off. If they ever do.

YB you really should have joined the military......do you know the infantry motto........Relentless in training, unyielding in battle.
Feb 27th, 2016 - 03:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You never give up. It is more than obvious that you have a personal stake in praying, hoping that Argentina fails regardless who it leading it and and attempts at change. Or, it's quite possible that you view life through a half empty glass. Even the little campers on that island will eventually realize that Macri cares little to none about it and that is an occasional bark to appease the mad dogs. Even they will forget the island exists if he can turn to economy around. Get over what ever it was.
Now a Democrat Vice-Chair has resigned to campaign for Sanders - and the DNC was supposed to be a stronghold for Clinton. Looks like those ruling out the socialist candidate spoke too soon, and with (and I really didn't expect this) Trump looking close to getting the GOP nomination, its increasingly likely the USA will have a socialist President. One who was such a Latin America solidarity activist (like my own leader Jeremy Corbyn) his supporters in the 80s were called Sandersnistas :=) What a contrast to Obama, who's really showing himself up getting close to Macri after Cristina endorsed him against the actually left-of-Macri Romney.
Feb 28th, 2016 - 04:42 pm - Link - Report abuse 0#46 Despite what I just said about Obama, the real irony and tension in that meeting would have been that he's actually less supportive of his own country's vulture funds that the treacherous leader of the country their suing! Didn't he indicate as far as he could, given separation of powers, that he disagereed with Griesa?
#49 As I said before, if Macri tries that there will be a massive defence campaign. It would be an attack on the opposition and democracy, and a sign of weakness...
Sanders is nuts and only has support from the ultra left wing of the minority party. He will never win.
