Amazing that after a decade of the Kirchners uttering “unnecessary provocations”, it was this that broke the camel's back?

    Wow Argentina, get some perspective!

PS: The UN does recognise the Falkland's Legislative Assembly as witnessed by the C24 constantly interrogating them every year. Can't have it both ways. Sorry.

    “Nobody recognizes them” ??

The Canadian government has done exactly that, on three separate occassions since 2009 (twice by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and once via the PMO).

    Silly.

Of course Argentine won't talk about war. They'd much rather pretend it never happened, it doesn't count, or it was all somebody else's fault.

Sorry Ambassador Zuain, the UN does not say that, nor the rest of the world. At the last count, Argentina claimed to have the reliable (?) backing of 63 “heads of State” - that would be a tad less than 1/3rd of the UN, and slightly less of the “rest of the world.”

The UN recognises the FIG - in fact, the DEcolonization Committee welcomed the FIG members in 1982 as “representatives of the Falklands people.”

But then, who expects an old Peronist to actually use facts?

    An unnecessary provocation?

So what were the events in 1982? And the continuous badgering of La Kretina and her cohorts for so many years?

Is the Argentine diplomatic service full of insensitive idiots?

”The official recalled that Argentina does not recognize the Falklands' Legislative Assembly “since it's illegitimate, because the territory belongs to Argentina. I'm not saying this on my own, it's what United Nations, Latin America and the rest of the world are saying. Nobody recognizes them”

So it's ok for Argentina to go around Latin America and elsewhere peddling crap like that and worse, but it's not ok for an elected representative of the FIG to counter the lies and twisted logic with the truth.

    These Argentinian spokespeople are hypocrites.

MLA Rendell makes ambassador Zuain look like a complete amateur.

Paraguay fertile ground, they lost a chunk to Argentina's imperialism too. Of course Argentines lie about it and bury the fact.
Any way the vast Argentine Empire of the South Atlantic of the indoctrinated is not going to happen, by the looks of it the Islanders are determined to remain British.
Violence is not to accept this and not to cultivate peace and friendship with the islanders.
The invented dispute of the 1940 decade and the indoctrination of the young in Argentina is the violence that after a generation of brainwashing these lies about the false claims in to the minds of its young caused the war in the first place.

As I have always mentioned. Hard Line islanders (and British) had their best partner in the stupic peronists. Both are of the very same kind.

A rational, and moderate, argentine government leaves these people, ones like Phyllis Rendell, in evidence. So, for islanders playing the role of the victim will be harder during Macri's government...it might be the time to change the speech !!!

People like Phyllis Rendell are putting in evidence the true nature of some, very few in fact, islanders and british people.

“The British tourist came to talk about war, about violence, not us.”

Stick your head in the sand as much as you like and pretend 'not us guv it was Galteiri who wasn't really Argentine”

You started the war Argentina, not the Falkland Islanders.

You are a disfunctional country(even now Macri is in) who had the chance to get the Islanders on side and blew it after invading.

All your fault. All your bad. All your mistakes.

“ openly stated that the South Atlantic islands, which are claimed by Argentina, are British, and the Islanders have British citizenship as Scot and Welsh nationals.”

This is a fact-suck it up.

Argentina do not control the Islands or occupy it in any way-they might as well claim every other country on the globe that they do not occupy is theirs.

It isn't unless you occupy it, with consent from the people born there.

“I'm not saying this on my own, it's what United Nations, Latin America and the rest of the world are saying. Nobody recognizes them”

Your problem Amigo is that they don't and you are lying-go to the ICJ,muppet.

”underlined that “negotiations are with London and not with the Islanders.”

Typical fascist dictator-we demand, we demand 'Ein Volk. Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer'

We say according to the Charter of the United Nations that if you don't talk to the Islanders (AS PRE 1982-The Frank's Report 1983), there are no talks!

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association during its conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, accepted a motion recognising the Falkland Islands Referendum as a free and fair expression of the Falkland Islanders wishes and their right to Self-Determination.

“This Association recognises the internationally observed Referendum held in the Falkland Islands over the period 10 and 11 March 2013, which sought the electorate’s views on their Political status, as a free and fair expression of Falkland Islanders wishes and their right to Self-Determination.”

So the Argy fails to show due respect to a democratically elected official.

He also is confused when reminded that it was Argy-land that lost the war.

The democratically elected representative of the People of the Falkland Island, was simply making it clear they do not wish to negotiate away their sovereign rights.

The right to self-determination of a people or population is enshrined in UN law, and trumps all else.

    Talking abt sovereignty ----
and if we are still here to defend our interests,

    David stated thus,
we will never sign up for any further integration or the full union,
but what he did not say was ???

Britain can only opt out of full Union in the long term by withdrawing from the Lisbon Treaty, signed in 2007, which is a treaty for full Union that came into full effect in 2014.

Few people seem to understand that the EU really will be European “Union”, not a group of separate countries. [[ The UK really will be gone as an independent country.]] Since November 2014 EU decisions are based on majority voting without a veto. The UK has only one in twelve of the votes. As the EU progresses towards full union the voice of the UK will disappear entirely from the world stage

Argentina didn't accept the surrender from the 'defeated' British and carry on their occupation of the Falklands because the Pope told them that to take what belongs to somebody else is stealing and that stealing is a sin!

And because they are all such good Catholics, the rest is history.

Hey Argentina, why don't you PROVE that the UK's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands is illegitimate?

Yes Argentina PROVE it. PROVE why a military COLONY which rebelled, committed mutiny, murdered their commanding officer, raped his wife and threatened the lives of the CIVILIAN population who'd been there years before the murderous military types turned up, usurps British sovereignty which can be traced back to 1690?

Then you can PROVE why an illegal military colony, which was in place for less than 6 weeks, overturns CONTINUOUS occupation by the Falkland Islanders since before the illegal military colony turned up, and then you can PROVE why that usurps the right to self determination as laid out in the UN Charter, UNGA resolutions 1514 AND 2065. Also the UK didn't use force to remove the illegal military COLONY from the United Provinces (Argentina DID NOT EXIST at the time - no matter how much you rewrite history), they just told them to leave, which they did WITHOUT one shot being fired.

And then please explain how the whole world can support you when the Commonwealth of nations RECOGNISE the Falkland Islanders right to self determination, and their sovereignty of the islands, and why the UN also recognises British sovereignty over the islands.

So take all the PROOF you can (but you must have EVIDENCE to back it up) and take it to the ONLY international body that can order a change of sovereignty - the International Courts of Justice. Until you do this it is Argentina's claim that is illegal, illegitimate and a joke.

By the way, why does one Falkland Islander expressing her opinion (as is the right of ALL people in the FREE world) such a provocation to Argentina? Afraid of people realising that Argentina is a liar?

Well Mr Zuain ( a good native Amerindian name that...NOT) the world already knows that Argentina is a liar. They know that Argentina are a bunch of thieves, and they know that Argentina behave like bullies and cowards too.

Troy & 49 VoiceofThink is evasive its true. The Argies just come up with irrelavent facts and miss the point in relation to the FI. Its British and has been since at least 1765 and it has excellent defences as was demonstrated in 1982. So, end of argument, QED.
As one travels throughout SA it clear why its so backward, Spanish Culture and pointless idol worship. Any centre politician has a hard time. People want handouts that rob the successful, just like in VoiceofThink's Scotland. Its a chaotic place. There is no sympathy for Argentines who seem to have a reputation for dishonesty and crookedness. Their 'Malvinas' whining is just seen as another example of that and causes much hilarity. Advice from the locals is bolt everything down or they will steal it. You can see the evidence everywhere with grilles on windows, iron railings around parked vehicles and rabid dogs on chains.
As for VoiceofThink, he pontificates about places he cant afford to visit, and enjoys nitpicking designed to wind people up although its totally irrelavent. It is rumoured that he once got as far as visiting MacGregors fish bar in Dumbarton. The rest is wishful thinking.

    @59 Hepatia,
Argentina will return the land it stole off Paraguay within 25 years.
Argentina will return Sta Cruz to the Falklands within 25 years.
Argentina may cease to exist within 25 years.

Everyone believes in free speech but you still can't shout “fire” in a crowded theater. Macri can't reverse Argy policy on the Falklands - the issue is too deeply ingrained in the psyche of the average Argentine. What he can do is de-emphasize it to the point that no-one pays attention to it anymore. But it is a slow process, and (to mix my metaphor) if you are letting the fire die down it doesn't help when someone else comes around and gives it a good poke. Ms. Rendell and her associates need to get with the program here. There is no reason whatever right now for her to go disturbing matters. The Argentine ambassador's response should not be taken too seriously - all he is doing is playing to the Argentine man in the street audience which would probably get upset if there were no response to Ms. Rendell's goading.
So - play the game. Right now nothing is going to come out of Argentina that presents any kind of threat to the Falklands. Leave well alone and Macri when he feels the time is right will start the process of normalizing relations - direct sea and air links, modest trade, maybe even some participation in oil development. But you've got to give him a chance to establish the right environment, and making the kind of official statement that came from Ms. Rendell really does not help.

I just returned from a cruise around the Horn and my favourite stop was the Falklands. The folk there were terrific with very British accents and manners and on a shuttle bus to Gypsy Cove, the driver ( driving on the left) told us she had lived there since she was three and her two children will be going to University in England. She had a trip planned “home” and when someone asked where home was, she looked surprised and said the UK of course.

It is a beautiful place, reminded me of Nova Scotia in Canada. Lovely gardens and nicely kept houses. Surprisingly big, expensive vehicles as well. Loved the diddle dee jam!

,PROJECT FEAR: Now Gibraltar calls on UK to think 'very carefully' about 'dangerous' Brexit
THE Gibraltar First Minister has accused Tory MPs of not putting their people’s best interests first if they are deciding to back a Brexit.

[[ MPs of not putting their people’s best interests first ]]

Once again, they ARE putting people’s interest first, by giving the British people a free choice to remain or leave.

No disrespect to Gibraltar or its people,
Gibraltar’s first minister surely will not want to stay with a country that has vote to leave, when Gibraltar wants to remain.
You can come with us, and let Britain and you get the best deal,
Or you simply ask for independence, and remain in the EU in your own sovereign right.

Just my humble opinion of course.
