Oh it's going to be a lovely Olympics, political turmoil, Zika virus, pollution, who the hell is going to want to visit Rio. I bet the IOC are wishing London kept it for 2 years.

No, it's all going to plan!

The usual LatAm plan of not thinking anything through before embarking upon it, failing to see the big hole ahead of them, falling down said hole, then blaming the opposition for their own cock-up!

It happens in Uruguay time after time after time.

The country itself is great, the children of the Government are crap and only there for the money and 'gifts'.

Why do people keep calling this a coup if it is following the constitution?

Honestly considering the number of real coups in Latin America, you would think they would be able to tell the bloody difference by now.

If the constitution allows impeachment and it is legally sought then it isn't a coup. It might be unfair, it may even be futile or prove to be wrong.

But it isn't unconstitutional and it isn't a coup.

Trying to stay in power when you have been impeached.... now that would be a coup. Dilma should be very careful of what she does now otherwise it will be her that go down in history as a plotting a coup.

    @ 4 Klingon

WTF has it got to do with you, or have you joined the 300,000 other argies who have come to Uruguay to avoid TMBOA?

What is it with argies who cannot understand that telling the truth may be unpalatable but necessary if things are ever going to get better.

Never forget (as if you could) that you were born an argie, I CHOSE to live in Uruguay and attain resident status and am very happy here so stop with the bollocks.

It is noticeable that you have not disagreed with what I state about the laughable 'government' or defended LatAm in any meaningful way.

Dilma is a terrorist and always has been. Don't think when push comes to shove that she's forgotten how to foment rebellion.
It is appropriate and needed that this ends in mass civil unrest with one side clearly winning.
Whichever side wins in the end will show you if Brazil has decided to join the first world or will be stuck in the 3rd world for the rest of all of our lives.

It would be a great ideas if those sad old pathetic British nobodies who spend a huge amount of their time on here doing nothing but criticize Latin American countries please go and do it somewhere else. What a bunch of sad retrobates who really need to take a look at their own boring pathetic lives and stop wasting our time with such repetitive negative simplistic and predictable garbage. Go get therapy somewhere and find something positive to do with your pathetic boring dreary lives and time. You know who you are.

Klingon migrated to NZ for some reason and then actually went home to Argentina. He either couldn't make or couldn't stay. Hence his bitterness that you can do both.

Brazil is a sovereign country - at the moment - but if your 9-fingered toady hero had his way, Brazil, along with VZ, Cuba, Bolivia, would become part of a new country, called Republicas Comunistas da America Latrina....

what a dope you are.....go back to sleep.

A pity the speech was cancelled! She might have confessed about how incompetent & inutil she is, how she let the corrupt continue to steal and hence deserves a kick on her rear-end.

If they really do bounce Dilma and drag Lula through the Courts, it will be a testament to their Judiciary and Political systems.

A good sign that an unnassailable populist dynasty like Chavez/Maduro can't happen Brazil.

    It's the “LATAM Sring”!

Did anyone see the Economist article of two weeks ago - Venezuela is the new Zimbabwe ?
Compared price controls of “essential goods” - right down to photos of empty store shelves.

    @20 Troy:

As I heard about the [drastic] situation:

You seem to be highly optimistic! Of course, superficially and at a first glance; everything appears to be normal / serious. But under the hood.... the lesser said the better.

    Hence, the trick could be:
    - EITHER in appointing a candidate who may be more efficient [the easier part].
    - OR appointing the one who is less corrupt [a bit more difficult part].
    - OR by making the corruption, money-laundering, bribing, etc. as 100% LEGAL. [The Easiest Solution!].

Speaking about the Brazilian Economy, the shelves are not empty - not yet. But the goods are getting beyond the reach of an increasing number [the rich Brazilians are getting poorer].

@21 “ OR appointing the one who is less corrupt [a bit more difficult part].”

Interesting concept. It appears that about 300 or so of the legislators who are voting or who can vote on the impeachment are themselves under investigation for corruption.

    @22 Marti

REF: “about 300 or so of the legislators who are voting or who can vote on the impeachment are themselves under investigation for corruption”: THAT my friend, is just the TIP of the Iceberg!

The ONLY way out is to make the corruption, money-laundering, bribing, etc. as 100% LEGAL “business” in Brazil - A Paradise!

Yup, it passed easier than anybody imagined. And all those screaming deputy clowns with their 30 seconds of fame who just could not let it go with a simple “sim ou não” - and we wonder why Brazil is the way it is.

@27 All this rambling on by those deputies, “ in the name of [insert state district here] and of my family and my dog and the virtues of the flowers in the neighbour's garden and my blessed library card and [insert more aimless rubbish] ” and on and on until the speaker [I presume to be the president of the chamber] sees that the 30 seconds are up and says OK, just what is your fooking vote? It looked more like an American candidate's rally than a congressional vote. And of course the “não” voters complained of a “ coup” and they don't know a coup from their arses. The whole thing was laughable, except that this time the tanks and troops didn't come out to play.

Despite the favourable outcome (in this first of 3 crucial steps) , the session was pathetic to watch....6 hours of a bunch of mostly corrupt idiots, shouting insanities - and some swearwords - just goes to show the intellectual level of most of them, especially those from the PT and the PC do B...all filth communists, not by conviction, but for convenience. But unfortunately, most of them represent the worst of our society.

    #29 Jack:
REF:“6 hours of a bunch of mostly corrupt idiots, shouting insanities - and some swear words”:

    Think of it as follows:
    - This was an opportunity to put-up a show!
    - The longer it takes, the higher is the Extra-Salary & the Other “Fringe-Benefits”!
    - The fight was after all for:
1: grabbing as much power as possible
2: staying in power as long as possible
3: stealing as much as possible.
“The Show” was just a small beginning in the “right direction”!
    :o))

It's obvious that 90% of the idiots were putting on a show so that they could use parts of it later on in political propaganda clips.... the only difference between those who voted to impeach the fat cow and those that defended her, is the more developed sense of self-preservation of the former.
