Apr 26th, 2016 - 09:21 am - Link - Report abuse 0We really should have made them declare that Gib was British as part of their joining.
Maybe time to play hardball about this and remind them daily of the Treaty of Utrecht. Not to forget the Spanish colonies in North Africa.

If you are talking about the UK...you only had one vote and no veto...
Aaah yes it did.
Apr 26th, 2016 - 11:36 am - Link - Report abuse 0Any current EU, or then EEC, member can veto an application.
It's happened before and is happening now.
countries, and offered to sign one with Spain, which the Spanish government has declined to do.
Apr 26th, 2016 - 01:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Suggesting that it is Spain , not Gibraltar, that has something to hide.
by stating that no attempts to make Gibraltar out to be what it isn't will change the reality of what it actually is
Gollum 2 must have his own sand pit in which he regularly sticks his head.
Now Timmerman seems to have escaped off the face of the Earth, does Margallo get promoted to Gollum 1?

Apr 26th, 2016 - 07:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Spain joining the EU was a big benefit to Gibraltar, since the EU forced them to reopen the border. So no reason to veto on that account.
Also Spain does agree Gibraltar is British, they just don't want it to stay that way.
If Britain remains,
Apr 26th, 2016 - 07:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0it may not stay that way,
then again ??
Thank you Voice and agreed DemonTree
Apr 26th, 2016 - 10:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Even now the UK wouldn't veto Spain if it was applying. Populist politics like that don't really work well in the UK. It is why Spain and Argentina seem to gain so much exposure about their claims and the UK always seems on the back foot. It isn't, it just takes the long view.
Maybe a hangover from having such a successful empire. Who knows?
