Although we had legal approval to remove and mill the trees there were two significant problems. It was infested with venomous snakes that would have made exploitation very hazardous. Worse, there were adjoining landowners, who were also woodcutters, and they objected on the grounds that we were not local residents. Of the two conditions, venomous reptiles and venomous neighbours, the former was the lesser of our problems. I have often used this as a parable for trying to do anything productive in Argenzuela.
