The Falkland Islands finances remain robust despite a future of domestic and overseas challenges, but on the other hand recent developments in Argentina have opened hopes for a productive, closer relationship with the South American continent, said Governor Colin Roberts in his annual speech on the state of the nation. Nation Definition:
A distinct group or race of people that share history, traditions and culture.
Related Terms: State
Farley properly distinguishes a nation from a state, referring to a nation as:
... typically ethnic groups with a common language and a common sense of community....
Nationhood is a demographic and psychological phenomenon. Statehood is a formal-legal phenomenon.
... a race of men ... an aggregate body of persons, exceeding a single family, who are connected by the ties of a common lineage and perhaps by a common language .... a society of persons occupying a common territory and united under a common government.

At the end of the day it matters little what outsiders opine, as the Islanders are imbued with the right of self-determination. So they can define themselves however they wish, while conversely third parties have no legal standing in the matter.
Yawn....

There is no Argentine sea. I've looked on maps produced by various nations around the world and by UNCLOS and nowhere does this Argentine sea appear. Maybe it's with your mythical 'malvinas'...all in your mind.
Oh and wikipedia is not proof of the existence of the Argentine sea as anyone can add to that, even lying Argentines.
Voice - I am English first, and British second. The Islanders are Falklanders first and British second. Hardly an unusual situation. What are you?

You are perhaps confused between nation, state and nation-state. Common enough amongst ignorant people.

I wonder if Governor Colin Roberts has been ordered by the FCO to say that drivel about Argentina.
Jun 01st, 2016 - 10:53 am - Link - Report abuse 0Do the Islanders want a closer relationship, do they want a hole in the head? Either is as bad as the other I would have thought.
Perhaps after 25 years without constant hassle from any Tom, Dick or Susana Mabel Malcorra (The Malevolent Midget Foreign Minister) they might consider a tentative move or two.
But given Argentina's history of self-destruction it may not exist.

Jun 01st, 2016 - 10:54 am - Link - Report abuse 0Not exactly. ”International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the North Sea continental shelf cases, in which Denmark and the Netherlands based their claim inter alia on the doctrine of proximity, i.e., that the part of the continental shelf closest to the part of the state in question falls automatically under that state's jurisdiction. In these cases the ICJ rejected any contiguity type of approach. As for continuity, it is argued, the 1958 Geneva Convention on the Continental Shelf and Contiguous Zone, Article 1, now contained in the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention, Article 76, does not support the view that coastal states have sovereignty over islands above the continental shelf. On the contrary it laid down doctrine that islands had their own continental shelves, p.74

@11. Let's imagine a country inhabited by mongrels and migrants. Disgusting. It's called argieland. Revolting! Extermination is the best solution.
Talking about nationalities, is Malvinero Supremo able to explain why so many Spaniards and Italians one meets in London are, in fact, argentinos? These people explain they abandon Argentina in the bad times and then return, as argentinos, when the economic and political situation improves. Boludos!
