Across the United States, reaction to the massacre at a Orlando, Florida gay nightclub ranged from mourning to defiance, as many cities planned vigils and some officials increased security. President Barack Obama ordered US flags at all federal buildings to be flown at half-staff until Thursday, including at the White House and at embassies around the world. Read full article

    Why bother!

Everyone will just mouth platitudes until the next massacre. It's now a normal part of American culture.

Thankfully not something countries like mine wish to emulate.

Just wait till the copy cat Islamist's across Europe start doing this in every club.
Thanks Merkel for your great plan of integration!

On average 90 people are killed by guns every day in the U.S., roughly 10% will be children.

The U.S. homegrown terrorist group the N.R.A. are financed by gun manufacturers and prevent any changes to the gun laws.

You are right, Skip, nothing will change all the while the gun manufacturers are holding the country by the balls.

Are AR-15s legal for EU citizens to buy Klingon?

Unsure why Europeans would start copy catting after this US massacre. There's been hundreds already they could have started with.

Guess that lack of easy access to guns is just a pesky fact that needs to be overlooked for your alarmist intolerance to become true.

In relative terms, it wasn't that long ago that UK citizens could own weapons. I object to the fact that we can't now. It's not as though any police force could get to an “incident” quickly enough.

I object to being left defenceless. Wherever there are individuals or groups intent on violence, citizens should be able to defend themselves. At least we would have a 50/50 chance. The Swiss manage.

Fortunately the majority didn't want a gun culture in the U.K. and rate of gun fatalities is low.

When I read the rage-filled, xenophobic, prejudiced and violence-filled comments by the people in favour of gun ownership, I am mightly pleased they are not allowed to own guns.

Why do you need a gun? Are you in danger of being killed or seriously injured by any group or person. Would you use it as a first resort, or when you felt threatened or when you lost your temper ?
Yes citizens could own hand guns but not for self-defence.
You think that you would be responsible in owning one, so would millions of others think that they would be too. Remember Dunblane? One nutter escaped the system with a legally held gun. If guns had been banned then these children would be alive today.

What a pity you never read the very comprehensive inquiry into the Dunblane tragedy carried out by Lord Cullen.

Northern Constabulary had very serious defects in it's own procedures and a 'prohibited relationship' between the officer administrating the granting of FAC's on behalf of the CC in that TWO independent officers who interviewed Thomas Hamilton as required by the process (there was no hidden 'memo' and declared him totally unsuitable for the grant were overruled by him 'because he knew Hamilton'. Totally against the HO Guidelines for the grant and renewal of FAC's.

This was of course on top of a known report 'banned from exposure for 100 years' by Cullen in an attempt to preserve the identity of the children caught up in it which proved he should never have been allowed firearms in the first place: he was a paedophile and that was known for five years before he killed the children.

So he 'did not escape' the system, his mate in Northern Constabulary KNEW about his problems and STILL gave him an FAC. Guess why Northern Constabulary was gutted just a little while later.

There are many people who should not be allowed guns. Intolerant, narcissistic, xenophobic, angry old pricks for starters.

I am proud of our gun laws.

I have read the report. You think the system worked ?
But he did escape the system!!!!!! The system did not work and the nutter was allowed to keep his handguns !
If the ban on handguns was in place the children would still be alive.
What in God's name do you want a handgun for. A macho toy?

Scotland is now banning the ownership of air rifles unless you have a permit.
This should keep the uncontrolled neds from taking pot shots at people and killing and wounding domestic and wild animals.

Considering that there are now more firearms than people in America and that the United States has one of the most diverse populations on the planet and that Yankees have more freedom of activity and expression than anyone why are there so relatively few shootings or killing of any kind?

    Come on Commies!

You'd think that blood would be pooling on every storm sewer on every street in every city - every day.

    Why isn't it?

Divide the number of privately owned guns in any country by its population and compare its total number of murders and report back.

    lol.

    Come on.

    What say you?

Now threaten any other country and watch them cower behind their feeble government.

Conversely - unlikely your popular Falkland Islands - try physically invading the US.

Freedom does have a cost and Americans pay it every day - in every way - in every corner if the world.

There was a discussion on TV about “American gun culture” and the figure for gun related deaths in the US this year was 6,000....is that relatively few ?

    See this for 2015 statistics...bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34996604

The US does not come out too well !
