Fire forces full passenger evacuation of Caribbean Fantasy off Puerto Rico

A fire forced more than 500 people to be evacuated from a cruise ship about a mile off Puerto Rico's northern coast on Wednesday. The U.S. Coast Guard brought passengers to the shore as the fire continued to burn aboard the Caribbean Fantasy, a combination cruise and ferry ship. Other agencies also joined the rescue effort until fire forced them to abandon the ship. Read full article

    I understand that Argentina has offered to repair the Caribbean Fantasy, just as soon as they finish their 9-year attempt to fix their icebreaker Almirante Irízar and figure out how to dredge the channel to get it out.

    It's actually a ferry with large opening doors on the stern to allow vehicular access.

    Can you imagine letting the thing fall into Argentine hands with any water in the vicinity? Glug, glug! :o)
