The British Embassy in Montevideo, the Uruguayan Rural Association (ARU) and the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technologies (Cuti) are inviting to take part in the Agro Hackathon which is scheduled to take place during the coming Expo Prado agricultural show.

This is an open competition for Uruguayan teams made up of researchers, entrepreneurs and experts in Information Technologies, Agro and Business.

Forty young university students and/or professionals in the mentioned areas will solve challenges related to agriculture in Uruguay through the use of technology.

They will have to present a business model and a prototype developed within 48 hours, from 9:00 on Saturday 17 September to 19:00 on Sunday 18 September.

The Hackathon participants use their complementary skills and experience to develop concrete solutions to a real world issue. It promotes peers’ collaboration towards problem solving and focuses on the work process as a training opportunity.

Those interested in taking part can register before Tuesday 8 September, first come first served, until the 40 places are taken. The Hackathon is a great opportunity to publicize brands or products to the large public that attends Expo Prado 2016 over the weekend and to its participants. If you would like to participate as sponsor find the terms and conditions at: Hackaton Agro Uruguay Bases (PDF, 791KB, 9 pages).

The winning team will attend the Agri-Tech East REAP Conference 2016: Innovation for an agricultural revolution on 9 November 2016 in Cambridge. Return flights and five nights accommodation are included in the prize. There is no enrolment fee for individual nor for teams from academia. There is a US$200 fee for company teams.
