Speaking ahead of “Our Ocean” conference in Washington DC, Foreign Office Minister Sir Alan Duncan announced plans to double the area of ocean under marine protection around the UK Overseas Territories to around four million square kilometers, greater than the landmass of India. Read full article

No they are MPA's, and I'm assuming that they have the legal authority to do so. Otherwise there would be protests from all and sundry. Unless you can produce evidence of a contrary intent, you appear as what you are, a lone disgruntled Argentine apologist.

Unless you can produce evidence that they are now officially called UKOTS. What an absurdity, it's you who is making this claim not me. So it's your burden not mine.

Sep 16th, 2016 - 04:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You are correct in that they appear to be using both designations now, https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/14929/ot-wp-0612.pdf, https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/14929/ot-wp-0612.pdf, But, whatever nomelecture they use I'm not aware of any change in their legal status. But, my understanding is UK or British are somewhat interchangeable. Although, in the strictest sense the latter is reserved for people. Nor that MPA's are in any type of violation of international norms.

You indicated the the literal expression UKOTS which is not incorporated anywhere in the article. So in the absolute sense you where incorrect. But a person that has to engage in deceptions to make a point speaks volumes. Whereas, the UK where required administers these territories leaving to the local populous that which they are prepared to shoulder. Without hindrance to any other party. So continue to enjoy your deceptions, I'll leave you to your sock-puppetry. The Islanders seem to be doing alright while things are not quite so rosy on mainland.
What does it matter what you call them, it's good news for marine conservation.

Sep 17th, 2016 - 01:33 am - Link - Report abuse 0Are you casting aspersions without any proof whatsoever.
Firstly, I'm carrying on a long established practice based on my empirical knowledge in which I have posted to you under the above title. Secondly, with your acquiescence, with little or no protest, latest title being 'Voice, V0ice, Vestige, Think et al, sock-puppeteer, and imitator extraordinaire.' Prior to that it was simply 'Voice, Vestige, Think'. Step up take bow, you work very hard at your subterfuge. But, I can see what a breeze it must be for one practised in viveza criolla.
Just an aside. I have noticed that Voice and think frequently use yup in their posts. Not a word particularly used in Scotland...more an Americanism.

As for Americanisms you might want to consider that....
a) I married one...
b) I am subject to Americanisms everyday...they rub off...
c) I like them, when appropriate...
d) I own a little piece of America...
Y'all have a nice day now.....;-)))))))

And how much MPA km2 is UK plc offering off its own shores in comparison. A two-sided paradigm?

It's a trade off I'm happy with....
Dramatic scenery, fresh unpolluted air, sparkling water and huge expanses of uncluttered space...loch and mountains on my doorstep....seems a fair trade off....
Besides if I want 80/90 degree summers I'll live in my property in PA for a couple of months....which also as it happens has.....Dramatic scenery, fresh unpolluted air, sparkling water and huge expanses of uncluttered space...lakes and mountains on my doorstep...and warmer....

You are welcome to Pa, been there, done that. Mind the Menonites!

I can come up there as often as I like just as my pals up tbere often come here, they love it. Scotland has lots to commend it except the midges. They are talking about us going to Bariloque or somewhere in November, you must know it :-) Perhaps we can meet up with Mr Think for a dram … Oh but he's at 65 Brook Street isn't he?

Sep 17th, 2016 - 05:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0All that I can say is that from a crappy, rainy windy start to the week it had changed to warm, slightly humid weather with haze.
Ayr on Wednesday had 21°C and was rather pleasant with no wind.
Thursday about 21°C and humid....rather sticky.
Friday 18°C and a slight breeze
Today about 16/17°C with a slight breeze. Ideal for the September Ayr Gold Cup meeting. I could hear the Tannoys in my garden commentating on the races.
I am sure the weather in the Holy Loch area will be much the same as here.

Please excuse my ignorance about the Scottish West Coast, but...
Ain't 21°C on a Wednesday, 21°C on a Thursday, 18°C on a Friday and 17°C on a Saturday not freaking warm temperatures for midth September?
I like Ayr, my pal Stuart lives there, and my son has flown me up there a couple of times.

Sep 17th, 2016 - 07:04 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Not the seasonal average BUT in the last few years we have had warm weather into October. Many shrubs in my garden have started to flower again.
As a keen birdwatcher, I have noted birds that used to set off on migration in late August are now hanging on an average 3 week later. Same with the arrival of Whooper Swans from Iceland. t can be into October before the bulk of them arrive. It seems that the jetstream is farther North than usual, blocking the cold N. air from reaching the UK....and Scotland in particular.
It has to be said also, that the coastal land mass can produce macro climates.
In our last cold winter, my garden recorded a low of -4°C while a friend who lives 8 miles inland suffered -17°C. Something to do with the Gulf Stream.
Dunoon although only 45 miles away, has twice the rainfall of Ayr
I know nothing about the place. When is the start? Are the pitches free of ice?
