Argentine ambassador in UK on Monday rejected pointblank that the veto to foreign minister Susana Malcorra's UN Secretary General candidacy could have been linked in any way to the Falklands/Malvinas dispute between UK and Argentina. Read full article

Inheritance From Spain – Uti Possidetis Juris
The concept that Argentina had inherited the Falkland Islands from Spain is false. The law of the time did not accept inheritance without settlement and stated that 'an unopposed settlement of some years was necessary” before sovereignty was accepted. (The Law of Nations, Vattel, Cpt XI, p337) Vernet had sought acquiescence from the British consul in BUENOS AIRES on two occasions before establishing his colonies and the British protested when he was appointed military and political governor by the BA. Authorities. Jewett had no settlement. The concept of uti possidetis juris (inheritance of Spain) is only customary international law, applicable to those who choose to use it. Great Britain, France and Brazil have never opted to use uti possidetis juris and UPJ has never be used in any court or tribunal ”without the consent of both parties''.
legal judgments and opinions throughout the years have been pretty consistent with this view:

Time for Argentina to drop the claim and move on.
Let's play the guessing game based on content...

Oct 11th, 2016 - 12:05 pm - Link - Report abuse +4So by solved you mean handed over to Argentina?
In the real world, the problem can be solved by letting the people (who's homes you wish to steal) make their own decisions for the future. A lot easier, less money and morally and ethically the only thing to do in 2016. Well assuming you are a country that wants to be taken seriously rather than laughed at......
Malcorra didn't win the job because the world has a lot of very serious issues to deal with and nobody wanted a single issue candidate. Simple.
Oct 11th, 2016 - 12:07 pm - Link - Report abuse +3N.B. At least His Excellency does not claim that the General Assembly has supported the nonsensical Argentine claim to sovereignty of the Falklands archipelago.

Oct 11th, 2016 - 03:08 pm - Link - Report abuse -1His excellency the Argentine ambassador is sadly in error, the U.K. was willing to have meetings concerning the sovereignty of the Falklands but La Malcorras predecessor cancelled the meeting at short notice. Argentina refuses to follow the resolution of the UN General Assembly.

@9 The UK was NEVER willing to have meeting concerning sovereignty of the Falklands. They were willing to meet representatives of the Argentine government to discuss areas of mutual interest, but stated that sovereignty was off the table UNLESS the people of the Falklands wanted it discussed...which they don't.
The Argentine government wouldn't even set foot in the same room as representatives of the Falkland Islands Government with whom they are obliged (by the UN Charter and numerous General Assembly resolutions) to talk to find out what they want.
But in their arrogance the Argentine government ignores the Falkland Islanders, says they're not 'people' and therefore don't have the same 'human rights' as the other 7 billion people on the planet, whilst simultaneously stating that the UK military are holding them hostage, and claiming that they (Argentina) know what is 'best' for the non-existent, 'sub-human' islanders.
Argentina will never gain sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. And even if the islands were magically handed to them on a platter they actually wouldn't know what to do with them besides stealing anything that wasn't bolted down. Even in 1982 when they had 'control' of the islands they had no plan beyond 'invade' and 'murder' the population.

The kelpers are just squatters. Kick them out and let the Argies have the Falklands.

That's a doubly sneaky action, impersonating the noble Briton, then.
I would suspect that the malcontent's service to the previous administration was a bigger obstacle for her candidacy than any specific FIW malingering.
