“Is a monthly stopover in Argentina too high a price to pay for a direct weekly flight to Sao Paulo, the biggest flight hub in South America,” is the question we all have to ask ourselves, said lawmaker MLA Mike Summers this week as he set out the situation and options available to progress and develop the Falkland Islands’ economy. Up to FIG. It's called self-determination.

Oct 14th, 2016 - 11:09 am - Link - Report abuse 0Doesn't appear to be any more onerous than the current once a month stopover in Rio Gallegos - so definitely worth giving it a go. It can always be discontinued if things don't work out as expected.
Oct 14th, 2016 - 12:16 pm - Link - Report abuse +4Falkland Islanders will decide what is in our best interest, though that will never stop others trying to interfere for a wide variety of reasons. Some will try to interfere in public sentiment too, because they do not want us to continue to progress.
Oct 14th, 2016 - 12:40 pm - Link - Report abuse +3But Summers may be wrong about sanctions not being in our best interest. Whilst they are there we know where we stand, and international investors will draw the necessary conclusions.
A major hub..... and they have to look to Brazil not Argentina. LOL
Oct 14th, 2016 - 03:18 pm - Link - Report abuse +1Pretty much what I've been saying for years. Have to expand opportunities and the economy to expand the society.
Why is Uruguay not being considered? Is that because its not a major hub?

Oct 14th, 2016 - 07:44 pm - Link - Report abuse +2Whist Uruguay does have a very good, new, International Airport on the outskirts of MVD it has a murdering bunch of commie bastards 'ruling' the country who are still aligning us with TMBOA and the 15M Bat-shit mad Peronistas.
It is VERY frustrating to the agricultural sector who want to get close links with the Islands and some trade does take place but no commercial planes have ever been licenced by The Broad Fraud to fly there despite local businessmen funding an attempt whilst Mujica was pres.
:o(
Braziiiiiil... la la la la la la la... At least they should manage a half reasonable service without the possibility of it falling from the skies due to a lack of cash / spares / maintenance (who said Aerolíneas? Come on! Own up! Right! the whole school will do detention until someone owns up...)

Oct 14th, 2016 - 10:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If I were in charge of Uruguay I would have located the airport between Monte and Colonia - with a fast-ferry service passengers would arrive in central BA quicker and a much nicer and more relaxing trip than through all those awful BA suburbs. Ezeiza is such a crappy airport, a decent airport near Colonia would take half its business away. My only regret is that the extra traffic would spoil Colonia.
Geeeeeeeeeeee......
Oct 14th, 2016 - 10:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0What a Brillant idea Mr. Shackleton..
Imagine the happiness of all travellers having to go through immigration and customs twice...
Finally Señor Sthink makes a valid point - bravo..! That said it shouldn't be too difficult to fast-track those people who are not staying in Uruguay but are going direct to the BA ferry.

Oct 15th, 2016 - 02:36 pm - Link - Report abuse -3Anglo Turnip Shackleton wants to build a 100 km long Airport Transit Travelator in Uruguay...!
A world first!
Luckily he ain't in charge of Uruguay as he wishes in his comment above...
What a prize Turnip...!
Think has clearly never been through an airport that allows transfers between flights without the necessity of doing customs and immigration in the intermediate airport. I've done it at Schiphol so it is possible.
Oct 21st, 2016 - 05:16 pm - Link - Report abuse +2Also, when I went through immigration at Ezeiza the other week I got through very quickly. I think a visitor who is going to be effectively bringing USD into the country will always be welcome.
When the immigration guy asked me where I was staying I knew the street but not the number (I'd been there before so it was a minor detail) and he just rolled his eyes and suggested that I write it down on a piece of paper next time and let me in anyway. :-D
Also, when you go to/from Colonia on the Buquebus the immigration both ways is a quick formality.
So it is an unimportant detail in the general scheme of things.
Anglo Turnip just above...
Oct 21st, 2016 - 07:54 pm - Link - Report abuse -1Before embarrasing yourself (and insulting the superbe intelligence of the right and left craniums of the great Mr. Beeblebrox), why don't you read the posts before commenting...
Anglo Turnip Shackleton proposed the construction of an airport in between Montevideo and Colonia to take half of Argentinas Ezeizas airport business away....
What would be the logic of disembarking in Uruguay, go through transit, and embark on another flight landing at Ezeiza, Argentina?
Besides, 90% of passengers arriving to Argentina are Argentines...and we are subject to much stricter customs controls than tourists...
(A bit like Swedes returning from Denmark with 50 liters Akwavit in their rucksaks... or Engrish returning from Spain with 30 carton cigarrettes in their Adidas sportbags...)
Capisce?
What a Turnip!
1. I read the posts before commenting.
Oct 21st, 2016 - 09:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 02. I understood Shackleton's proposal.
3. If you had read Shackleton's proposal, his logic was that it would provide a faster, more pleasant route into central BA. Your only argument against this was that 1 extra set of customs and immigration would be required. I merely pointed out that your argument wasn't a very good one since there were simple ways of resolving it.
4. Argies are subject to stricter customs controls than tourists? How is this in any way relevant to any of the discussion?
I would actually say that there are much bigger arguments against Shackleton's suggestion such as the cost, reliability and speed of the River Plate crossing, connections to Montevideo etc. but no, you responded with the most trivial counter argument and when I pointed this out you called *me* a Turnip! Comprende?
Maybe you are overThinking? I expect that you are the sort of person who fights to get off the plane quickly, races to get to immigration as fast as you can and then (if successful) spend 20 minutes at baggage reclaim waiting for your bags.
Geeee.....
Oct 21st, 2016 - 09:36 pm - Link - Report abuse -1You didn't get a single one right , Anglo Turnip!
Just take your last paragraph...:
”I expect that you are the sort of person who fights to get off the plane quickly, races to get to immigration as fast as you can and then (if successful) spend 20 minutes at baggage reclaim waiting for your bags.”
I say...:
In 100% of me airtravel I remain dignifiedly seated, leaving the plane as one of the last paxes, politely thanking the personnel for their kind service...
About 75% of me airtravel takes place with hand luggage only...
You are dishonoring the great Zaphod..., Anglo Turnip...
Why do you not change Nik to something more fitting like.... Turnip 102...?
