Batlle, who will be forever remembered for his frank honesty in describing the better qualities of the neighbouring argentines: “ a bunch of thieves from the first to the very last one of them.”

Vasquez oversaw the criminal and violence rot in Uruguay without any ideas of how to tackle it, it accelerated during Mujica and is firmly out of control, as are the judges. under Vasquez II.

An epic leader died. Still remember his famous speach about Argentina “bunch of thieves” and how offended he answered: “please no not compare us with Argentina, please compare Uruguay with Chile, yes... But not Argentina!”

RE ManRod: Yup, and back in 2002 it was picked up by Argie media as follows:

“No me compare con Argentina, Uruguay es un país distinto, compáreme con Chile o Brasil, pero no con Argentina” ..... “Y si quiere comparar Uruguay con Argentina, entonces compare la respuesta del FMI a Uruguay y a la Argentina”.

(Don't compare me [us] to Argentina, Uruguay is a different country, compare me [us] with Chile or Brazil, but not with Argentina...... If you compare Uruguay with Argentina then compare the IMF response to Uruguay with their response to Argentina [the IMF at the time correctly identified Argentina as a basket-case, while Argentina blamed its collapse not on its own mismanagement but instead on the billions of dollars of support it had received from the IMF].
