Demonstrators marched in cities across the United States on Wednesday to protest against Republican Donald Trump's surprise presidential election win, blasting his campaign rhetoric about immigrants, Muslims and other groups. In New York, thousands filled streets in midtown Manhattan as they made their way to Trump Tower, Trump's gilded home on Fifth Avenue. Hundreds of others gathered at a Manhattan park and shouted “Not my president.” Read full article

This is how your country works people, even though you demand that it just works for what you want.

Definately a youngish crowd. Similar to Brexit remoaners. Both the Brexit referendum and the US Presidential election seem to have mirrored a feeling. In post industrial Britain and America those who felt left behind spoke loudly, leaving a sore disillusioned bunch of younger voters disenfranchised. I noticed the Bezerkly was well up on the demo front - the usual suspects. :-)

As for Trump it will be interesting to see how well his actions match his rhetoric? Perhaps Yankeeboy has the inside story on that?

What a bunch of dimwits....what do they expect to accomplish with all this crap, such as waving placards which read “he is not my president” and other stupid slogans ? But I bet you that if Trump had lost, they would still try to taunt him, and would most definitely condemn the Trump supporters if they were to protest against Hillary....after all, to them, that would be 'anti-democratic'.

Some of the media in the US are reporting not just the whinging of the usual sort but violence and damage as well, along with public threats against the lives of the president-elect and vice-president-elect. Apparently the authorities have dismissed that sort of lawlessness as “not credible threats” although the violence has reportedly already involved injuries, vehicles and windows smashed and that sort of thing. But it speaks volumes about the nature of the Left in the US, which was also responsible for a good bit of violence directed against Trump supporters during the campaign. That sort of thing, by itself, probably gained Trump enough votes in the right places to put him over the top. There have also been pictures in the US media of American flags being burned during these riots, with Mexican flags coming out nearby. Looks like at least 7 people shot in those riots so far. It's going to be interesting to observe these developments.

“Not my President” - exactly the same damaging partisan rejection of a democratic outcome that Republicans were so good at.
They polarized the American people by vilifying the President and denying his legitimacy.

Trump's call for unity is to his credit.

I don't recall any mobs of republicans rioting after previous elections, setting fires and burning American flags and smashing windows and getting people dead in the process. That sort of thing sounds more the domain of the Hooligan Left.

    Tyranny of the masses.

I've held my breath for eight years so you'd think that these punks could possibly survive until at least inauguration.

This is one more indication of the relatively thin line between liberalism and anarchy.

By comparison, the margin between extreme conservatism and insurrection looks like a vast gulf.

Nothing is sweeter than commie tears.

    lol.

California has already discussed several ways to break itself up into smaller states in the recent past. Not all of California would secede from the U.S.

The more liberal areas would want to secede. But then, they wouldn't have working Americans to pay for all their entitlement programs.

A parallel with Scotland out of step with the UK. Mainly driven by Glaswegian left wingers rather than the hoy paloy, so in that sense politically different to the US. The left is looking like a busted flush everywhere these days.

Why do you single out Scotland?
What about London? Are Londoners equally out of step with the UK?

As far as I am aware there isn't a London National Party. People pointed out that Remainers were a majority in London but thats all, there has been no widespread serious attempt to exit the UK from Londoners. The Scots Nats whole existence is dedicated to exit the UK and they seize every chance to achieve it, they are the out of step grumblers refusing to accept the will of the British people just like the anti Trump folk.

The SNP are a political party. You can't expect them to shut up shop just because they haven't achieved their aims. It is very different situation to those demonstrating against Trump in the US.

    Avery good point,
being born in London [now north of Watford,
a London National Party does not exist,

The SNP are a political party

yes they are, and not a successful one either.
as for those demonstrating against Trump in the US.
they may not like the decision but they will just have to live with the result, like the rest of us,

    just a though.

I thought some time ago that whomever won that the next president would be a one term president. But Micheal Moore and Allan Lichtman have predicted that Trump will be impeached within his first term. I think that there is a high probability that tis will happen.

“Micheal Moore and Allan Lichtman have predicted that Trump will be impeached within his first term. I think that there is a high probability that tis will happen.”

While you have abandoned - for the time being - your silly mantra on the “Malvinas”, seems you have found a worthy substitute ...such as “ Trump will be impeached in the next 4 years”....what BS ! and to take your cue from that fat grease ball, Michael Moore, doesn't say much about you. As to Lichtman, he predicted Hillary would win with 52% of the vote, so looks like his predictions are about as important as a fart in the wind.
