Canada paid for a large part of the destruction of Argentina's antipersonnel mines because, well, you know. The US paid over US$700,000 for mine removal training training for Argentina because, well, you know.

The declared stocks of those Argentine mines were for public purposes concluded in 2003. The numbers of declared versus destroyed mines never added up and there is reason to believe that not all of the stocks have been destroyed and that thousands are being kept for rather suspicious reasons. The stocks included a large number of mines from Libya.

Note that the Ottawa mine treaty is only for antipersonnel mines and there is reason to believe that Argentina retains significant stocks of anti-vehicular mines.
