    If the most complicated thing they do is chop ice to melt it then it looks like an awful lot of wasted effort.

    @ Earthfarmer “Should read...18 military personnel and 3 scientists....”

    Should read “...18 military personnel and 3 'scientists' tasked with melting ice for the 18 military personnel....”

    Yeah, it's a gimmick. Not real.

    Unlike the newspaper, and radio station, and school, and hospital, and native born ANTARCTICANS... who are real, and were real 40 years ago when Britain was nowhere to be found. There are 10 native Antarcticans, who have the same rights of self-determination as 3000 people, or 1.5 billion people, the same. In a vote over self-D, it would be 7-3 in favor of joining Argentina. Which is why the other nations in Antarctica deny those 10 people their enshrined rights, and treat them as non-humans, and violate the basic charter of the UN.

    Those 10 are an implanted population, impregnated in Argieland and shipped to the Antarctic to give birth. Its all a bit of Vivenza Criola or whatever it called to create division and discord. Do they live tbere now? No, they live back in Argieland!

    The British were exploring Antarctica long before any Argie set foot there. Queen Elizabeth land, and a long established Post Office. Get informed Nostril and please stop the whining..

    It's time for Argenzuela to leave the British Antarctic Territory. But clean up your gimmicks and filth before you go.

    We are reminded of the chickenshit and cowardly nature of Argentina's “claim” to Antarctica, years after others had made more convincing claims. It was 1943 and the UK was at war with the Nazis that Argentina was secretly supporting. Sort of like Argentina's claim to oil rights on the moon.

    You fool, you just made my point! How is “having a child” any less valid a claim than “planting a flag”? Case over!

    Because today, who “discovered” a place first is not admissible in international territorial disputes, if it were, then the entire planet would have to be redrawn and everyone relocated, including the British that live in Britain today.

    If the British argument is who explored it first in recorded history (and how do you know you were the first?), then North America belongs to Iceland, South America belongs to Fiji, and Britain belongs to the Greeks or Romans. Think before you think...

    Fidel

    “There are 10 native Antarcticans, who have the same rights of self-determination as 3000 people,”

    So are they living in Antarctica, and if so why not?

    The Falkland Islanders have self determination, because women were not impregnated in the UK, sent to the Falkland Islands to give birth, then removed back to the UK, instead;

    1/- Falkland parents LIVE IN the Islands to start with.
    2/-Children are born in the Islands.
    3/- They continue to LIVE IN the Falkland Islands.

    How do those circumstances of self determination concur with these 'Antarcticans' who don't actually live in Antarctica?

    Argentina survives by unfreezing ice. That happened with the Brits OVER 100 years ago.

    So, Argentine scientists are going to study climate change. When everyone else with bases in Antarctica started doing that about 40 years ago.!

    Whatever next, are they going to open a post office ?

    Nostrils, unlike Argieland Britain isn't trying to claim Antarctica. If your soldiers need to send a postcard they are always welcome to pop into our Post Office. And, as you have no supply vessels they can always rely on British assistance when needed. ;-)

    Hows that Icebreaker?

    @Fidelito
    “Antarticans”......have you just invented a new 'race'.....formed by something purer than snow, with absolutely no outside interference ? what about the seals ? Antartica should belong to them...they've been there for a damned sight longer than 40 miserable years.
    And I suppose, that in 183 years, Argentina will tell the world that Antartica belongs to them, based on a claim that in December 2016, they sent 18 military personnel and 3 scientists...for about 52 weeks ...
    Might be a good idea to warn the rest of the world...
