A bitterly divided Senate on Monday confirmed Steven Mnuchin as United States treasury secretary despite strong objections by Democrats that the former banker ran a “foreclosure machine” when he headed OneWest Bank. Republicans said Mnuchin's long tenure in finance makes him qualified to run the department, which will play a major role in developing economic policy under President Donald Trump. How disappointed are the Trump supporters?

What a disaster his first few weeks have been. Now he has had to fire his National Security Advisor (as always, wrapped up as a resignation) because he is a security risk. I would argue Trump is a bigger security risk by holding security meetings and discussing classified information at the dinner table in a public area full of people without security clearance. The man is a buffoon.

How we used to laugh at the incompetence of CFK back in the day. Who would have thought the U.S. President Trump would be worse.

Following in the footsteps of Geithner and Lew the bar isn't set very high for the new secretary.

He'll struggle to turn in a less distinguished performance than either of them.

    lol.

What are the chances that Trump didn't know exactly what his future national security advisor was doing? Sounds like he is just the scapegoat to me.

Anyway, I expect Trump's hardcore fans didn't notice or care, but hopefully some of the more reasonable ones will notice the decided lack of swamp-draining. Even chronic couldn't actually find anything good to say about Mnuchin.

Trump knew. Trump's team were in contact with Russian agents all through his campaign and he was briefed. Trump is a micro-manager and there is nothing he doesn't know about the teams actions.

It is interesting that Trump was not annoyed about the actions of Flynn but that the press found out about it. He has been walking around the White House today with that big bulging vein on his forehead. Trump cannot stop the leaks because government is bigger than any one President and he has failed to put appointees in place. He has been quick to upset everyone in government and the security services and very slow to put any of his people in place. That is a recipe for disaster. Good. Let us hope Kellyanne - Liar-in-Chief is next to go - he is pretty pissed off with her so it wouldn't take much.

Trump is the real person with dubious links to Russia. But the Republican Congress is not going to fire HIM in a hurry, sadly.

I'm sure you are right that he is only angry the press found out; sadly this is pretty much normal for all leaders these days. Dunno about Kellyanne, but it won't make much difference if she goes; whoever he puts in is going to lie just as much - it's all coming from Trump.

While I have very strong objections to the appointment of Steven Mnuchin as Secretary of the Treasury since it seems to me like appointing the fox to run the henhouse, I will take note that it was James Madison who principally engineered that organic document of our Republic called “The Constitution” to contain the three branch competitive facility of “checks & balances” along with the facility of “advise & consent” which has in this current case resulted in Mnuchin's contentious and controversial appointment - - - and thusly, we the people of this nation are left to contend with the constituent power of the duly elected President to live with Mnuchin and his many flaws or exercise the presidential prerogative of “your fired” - - - - and in the event of either case and in this procedure and in this time-honored manner leave the Trump imprimatur on the Presidential history of this nation. So, while I support the President on this point, I personally think it “just sucks . . . big time” - - - the hearings obviate Mnuchin's qualification morally and ethically to direct the fiduciary functions rising from the office of the Treasury Department of the United States of America in the interest of “We the People”.

    TIME WILL TELL - - - -

And, with many of the more hysterical media stories falling apart the credibility of those that oppose Trump is diminished. I consider this unfortunate because I'm one of the latter.

I agree about the media. Trump has declared war on them, but they need to remember it is not their job to fight a war with him, but to report the facts as fairly as possible. If they fall to that level it only reduces people's trust in the media even more, which is a very serious problem in the current circumstances.

Reuters wrote an interesting missive about how to report on Trump. It pretty much said the same thing. It is why it really is the best news source. However, Trump lies unashamedly and asks the people working for him to do the same. We are not talking spin or playing loose with the truth but blatant lies. He can't help himself because of his personality flaws. The press is right to pull him up every single time.

That the President has declared war on the media and the intelligent services is more than worrying but I actually think it will be his downfall. He cannot win against the intelligent services because they know where his bodies are buried and the press will be all too willing to print the locations.

Yes he lies, and I agree the press should report that. Not by calling him a liar, but by printing the true facts so people can see for themselves. But they need to be really strict and double check everything they print, to avoid giving Trump any excuse to discredit them.

Trump picking fights with the press and intelligence services is bad for the US however you look at it. Seemingly the intelligence service have been leaking things to force Trump's hand, and whichever side you think is in the right, this is not a good thing. The intelligence services haven't shown much ability to even influence Trump so far.
