Australia's numbers are completely cooked, no one believes them not even Australians. I read their forums and see that most Australians actually struggle to make ends meet, even if it is from a high base of material wealth.

Kudos to Paul Keating and Peter Costello, our two best Treasurers over the last thirty-five years. The former for - finally - opening up the economy, making it much more flexible, the latter for making sure the banks didn't start a local sub-prime market, the main reason we didn't fall into a recession when so many western countries did, courtesy of the GFC.

Australia may have many problems, but they really do pale in comparison to those in almost all other countries.

Even with our current crop of dud leaders, we've managed to ride out the GFC and the end of the resources boom.

Recessions aren't always necessarily a bad thing as they help to reduce imbalances in an economy that build up over time. But there is no recession facing Australia in the short term and we'll probably see out the rest of the decade with continual growth.
