The Falkland Islands has approved the commencement of work that will lead to the delivery of new port facilities to support economic growth into the next decade. According to a release from the Falklands elected government, the new work will build on the substantial previous studies completed in 2012 and 2014, which investigated the viability of various sites, and resources are expected to be allocated during the 2017/18 budget process. Why didn't I Think about that...!
    You are a suspicious Ex-Cmdr... aren't you...?

Can you tell us already if Chief Executive of the Falkland islands.., Mr. Barry “Speedy” Rowland and Executive Chairman (and virtual owner) of the Falkland Islands Holding..., Mr. Edmund Rowland are somehow blood related...?

It would be “funny” if they were... wouldn't it...?

Sadly, Barry of Durham isn't likely to be related to Edmund of Guernsey, “funny” as it would be. If he were to be then HRH the Duke of York would never have been away from the islands and there'd already be a branch of Havilland Bank in Stanley.

That Guardian article just confirms it - the finest traditions of the North South divide ensure that the Rowland boys aren't related. He may be the Duke of York but he's decidedly more Essex than Geordie when it comes to the ways of the world.

Of course, a few years before 2005 was 2001, which is the year HRH became the Queen's international trade representative. It's also the year that the Rowland Purpose Trust 2001 was established for the benefit of the family “and others”. You know, the Trust behind Staunton Holdings bidders for FIH Group? 2001 was also the year of that photo with the young lady, the very young lady taken when building up those all important contacts for the new job. Definitely not the way they do things in Durham and Newcastle.

Conclusion: No way are they related.

Little shitstirrer Think and his sock puppet don't like it . We true Brits do. Sensible economic development of our British Overseas Territories will be accelerated post Brexit. Britain is already the leading place to do your financial business and BOT's will play their part too.

I take it the Port Smylie project is dead then?

A deep water port means more shipping business around the South Atlantic. Hopefully to bring back the days when the Falklands was a major stop for ships before the Panama canal was opened.
