An optimistic foreign minister Susana Malcorra said that Argentina expects the Mercosur/European Union trade agreement to be announced next December during the World Trade Organization meeting to be held in Buenos Aires, and which she described as an event of great political impact.     Is this the same 'accord' that they've being trying to reach for the last 20 years?

    The one that either gets blocked by the French or the Argentinians who have constantly been trying to protect their own products?

    I won't hold my breath then.

    They haven't really been trying for 20 years, the Kirchners weren't big fans of free trade and neither were Lula and Dilma. This is the first time in a long while that there has been any chance of a deal, and the odds should be fairly good that they can compromise because all parties have something to prove.
