The left's narrative is that Dilma's impeachment was a coup executed by the right. This refusal to progress the impeachment and criminal trial of Temer promotes this narrative.
Aug 03rd, 2017 - 03:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Corruption runs deep: yes. The difference is on how corruption is handled--there are corrupts who get impeached and there are corrupts who get to government on the basis of fighting corruption. Then, the corruption suspects manage to stay in power. And those who thought corruption was finally going to be dealt with in a serious manner are left shaking their heads in disbelief.
Aug 03rd, 2017 - 03:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They also wanted revenge for his rise to power a year ago, when his allies in Congress ejected leftist president Dilma Rousseff in an impeachment trial for breaking budget rules. Temer, her vice president in a shaky coalition, immediately took over.
Aug 03rd, 2017 - 08:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The above, is one way to explain all the Fora Temer transmitted over the news....which started the moment after Dilma was kicked out....and loooong before Temer's popularity, relentlessly attacked by the press, started to drop...based on highly suspicious polls, which in practise turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy.....as to the 'revenge' theory, not at all far-fetched, especially after listening to an opposition deputy, a couple of days ago, state that the vote (to be) held on Aug 2nd, would be an opportunity to get revenge....I reiterate, just for the sake of clarification, that while I'm convinced Temer accepted money, what's more important to Brazil at the moment, is the fact that he is pushing the much needed reforms through Congress, and the economic indices have stabilized / stopped getting worse....regarding the accusations against him, he can, and should, answer to them after his term is over.
The situation in Brazil, the 'fors' and the 'againsts' cannot be explained in simplistic form, as some like to do...especially those who only get half the story.
Almost ALL the political parties are [and will forever be] practically FULL of crooks.

Aug 04th, 2017 - 03:32 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Jornalist Glenn Greenwald's article, while containing many truths, also showcases his leftist bias....at one point he acts as Temer's jury, judge and executioner......he labels anything he doesn't like as 'right-wing', as if they - if the label is pertinent - are always the villains, and the left is full of 'saints'....he calls the right-wing 'slimy', a description that fits all left-wing politicians, as well. In Brazil, most of the current politicians aren't going in one direction or the other, based on ideology, but simply on what's best for them, at this moment...their opinions change as often as they change their underwear, and what's good for Brazil is just a detail, not at all high on their list of priorities. He praises the left as if it were the solution to get Brazil out of the hole....we all know what happened as a result of 14 years of 'lulopetismo'...Quite frankly, imo, Brazil will only leave the crisis behind when Lula is locked up and removed from the political scene.
