    Where will the real cost of her upkeep come from ? The chances are that she will just end up as a rusting hulk.

    @Clyde15. Just like HMS Victory, HMS Alliance, HMS Belfast, HMS Caroline, HMS Cavalier, HMS Courageous, HMS Expunger, HMS Gannet, HMS Holland, HMS M33, HMS Ocelot, HMS Trincomalee, HMS Unicorn, HMS Warrior. And that's only a selection of commissioned vessels of the Royal Navy. Not an aircraft carrier amongst them. And, most importantly, HMS Hermes was built in England!

    I'd happily pay for a tour around it. I suspect the sense of history would prove impressive.

    When Britain first at Heav'n's command, arose from out the azure main
    This was the charter of the land, and anal retentives sang and strained
    “Stool, Britannia! Britannia, stool you crave; Britons ever shall deprave.”
    The nations not so messed as thee, shall spin their turds in toilets' bowls;
    While thou shalt nourish states with pee and bread with gravy from bum's hole.
    “Stool, Britannia! Britannia, stool you crave; Britons ever shall deprave.”
    Still more majestic shalt thou dump, more dreadful bum-logs roar and stoke;
    As thy proud arse that tears the skies, serves but to toot thy fartive smoke.
    “Stool, Britannia! Britannia, stool you crave; Britons ever shall deprave.”
    Thee naughty thigh-vents ne'er shall tame, all their attempts to plug thy bung;
    Will but arouse thy odourous flame, and work their woe, and fling thy dung.
    “Stool, Britannia! Britannia, stool you crave; Britons ever shall deprave.”
    To thee belongs the ur'nal reign, thy shitties shall with ochre shine;
    All thine shall be the plumbing stain, and every shore thy turd'll find.
    “Stool, Britannia! Britannia, stool you crave; Britons ever shall deprave.”
    The Muses, stooled with peedom brown, shall to thy crappy coast repair;
    Blast tile with matchless poopy brown, and manly farts to foul the air.
    “Stool, Britannia! Britannia, stool you crave; Britons ever shall deprave.”

    HMS Hermes was built in England . So what ?
    You have not answered the question. Where will the money come from. Certainly not from the MOD.
    They would be better spending money on the current fleet..

    It's not possible to preserve them all. After all hmg sold it without preservation conditions. The great effort to save hms plymouth turned out to be abortive.

    The Indian navy has had it for 30 years...what kind of condition is it in even to make it safe !

    I read a forum about HMS Centaur being scrapped. They said it was only the layers of paint that were holding it together.

    As I said above ...spend some money on the fleet. This is the latest from our defence conscious Tory govt.

    She could be an awesome facility if run properly and located sensibly. The US have several major warships on display and they do fine. But I fear like all previous campaigns it will fall foul of those who do not want to see any British Heritage preserved.

    @ Marcos Alejandro I sense resentment from you, does Hermes remind you of your ineptitude and impotency? You stick to playing with you new Malvinas class sloops (35 year old Russian former oil rig support ships). Hermes is still in better condition than anything Argentina could put to sea. @Gevera you days on this blog are numbered just as you were in your previous profile.

    Argentina could have the last laugh here . If they can afford to buy Hermes they could sink it and re-float it 5 times, then tell us, we told you so.
