I recently paid $2500 for a GE side-by-side fridge (made in Mexico) and its not even a very nice design. In the UK I could have bought a far nicer LG model for half that price (incl 20% VAT) and a Beko (something like what I bought here) would have been around $750 in Curry's and probably less online. I gave a bit of thought to exporting one from the UK but it just seemed too much trouble and too much import duty in Arg, etc, etc. All made in Argentina home appliances are shitty quality - and the rubbish they flog in Paraguay too - and my g/f laughs at the idea of returning something to the shop if it is faulty or damaged in some way - or even if you decide you don't like it, as you can in the UK and no doubt in the US too. There seems to be no consumer laws here.

    Shackleton,

“my g/f laughs at the idea of returning something to the shop if it is faulty or damaged in some way - or even if you decide you don't like it, as you can in the UK and no doubt in the US too.”

Yes, you can return products if they are “not fit for purpose” in the UK which can sometimes get you into an argument, but in the US it is very easy to return items for no good reason at all. I recently accidentally ordered 2 copies of a book from Amazon.com and when I realised I tried to return in, told them it was my mistake and they immediately refunded by credit card but told me I didn't need to return the extra book! It was probably not worth it for them. Amazing!
