The Falkland Islands have warned that a million penguins are at risk from a funding black hole caused by Britain’s exit from the European Union. The Islands rely on European conservation projects to care and protect the penguin colonies, rookeries, in its shores. But with the U.K. fast approaching Brexit Day in March 2019, Falklands' lawmaker Teslyn Barkman has urged clarity on the future of Islands’ flippered friends. Read full article

    Me dear Kelpers

Firstly..., you nearly extinguished them penguins in the nineties by licensing the emptying of their bredding waters...

Then your demonized the few that told ya what it was happening and what had to be done...

Afterwards..., you got the EU to pay for the implementation of the actions reccomended by the above mentioned demonized ones..., and..., of course..., the penguins returned in force...

In the meantime..., hardly a day goes by without your FIG(leaf) boasting about how good they are managing the economy..., how much more money a Kelper makes than the average Northern Hemisphere Engrish Joe... and how humonguously biiiiiiiiiig your Malvinas Sovereign Wealth Fund is becoming...

And now you lads and lasses are complaining..., moaning and whinging 'cause those bloody Europeans won't pay your Penguin bills no more..., only because ya Engrish told them to go and whistle...!

Read the lips of this Euro-Argentinean Patagonian..., Kelpers...:
    ***“PAY FOR YOUR OWN PENGUINS...”***
    Capisce...?

EU protecting funding of Falkland penguins - what a loada ole tosh. Wake up Falklands their destiny is on your own doorstep. If funding is needed (very doubtful) then while you can clearly boast £38 million of windfall revenue, the means is within grasp? Is it not? Possibly many islanders might argue that there is too much interference already by short term folkies, and the best option is to let “nature remain in charge” - little ole slogan from the 80's not much heard these days.

Demonised Think? Some people can be their own worst enemies -

That EU funding may stop hardly means that funding will stop. After all, the EU take our money and spend some of it on such activities as conservation. If we don't give that to the EU, perhaps it'll just go direct from the UK to the penguins?

It's not the EUs money. The EU money comes from taxpayers. There is nothing stopping the EU continuing the funding. There is nothing stopping the UK from funding this work if they wanted to.

And in respect of Mr Think, sir you can take anthropomorphism too far. No penguins complained about over fishing and no one demonised them for doing it.

This reminds that I read the penguins have benefitted from the landmines, as it meant they could nest undisturbed by humans or sheep. Does anyone know what is happening now the mines are being removed? Is the land being returned to grazing or other use, or will the coastal areas be reserved for penguins?

    TWIMC...
I am quite convinced that sweet Teslyn agrees in principle with Mr.Falklanlad above...
Problem is that sound personal principles very seldom make it through this porch...

Think- this is getting dangerous- I agree with you again! Not on the first bit- that twerp got his desserts and Falklands well rid of him and his twaddle. But yes FIG can well afford to look after the Penguins here - and South Georgia Govt can afford to do likewise.

    Mr.Timlander1

If you re-read what I wrote above and if you search your memory properly..., you may remember that Mr. Bingham was not alone on his denounciations about the plight of the pingos...

And they were right..., as reality shows today...
    Or ain't it so...?

fig boasts the islands are self-sufficient with the exception of the cost of defence and foreign affairs. some penguins might look like governors but the're not really and they don't take up arms only flippers! money needs to be put where the mouth is. there is ample of it. we don't need eu handouts from european taxpayers.

Mr.Portman is the third Malvinas resident on this thread that tells us the same...:
***“We don't need no €U handouts from no €uropean taxpayers”***

    I say...:
As we say in continental Argentina...: “Chocolate por la noticia..., Chay...!”
Anyhow..., your honourable elected representatives from the FIG(leaf) unanimously send newbie Teslyn on an official Kelper Begging Mission to the Northern Hemisphere...
Who knows... maybe she can flash some dying penguins and smile herself sweetly to some million €uros from those nerdy €co€uropeans..., seems to be their general idea...

    Sad...

Complete load of twaddle. People who want to interfere will always find the money to do so. The wildlife in the Falklands is in good order, no thanks to idiot boy Bignham.

    Mr. Voice...

There is already a “Crowd-Funding” thingy for the whole bunch of them windblown Islands...

Its called “Falkland Islands Assocation”...: https://www.fiassociation.com

As a registered Engrish *** “Charity Organization”***..., all your contributions are 100% tax exempted and can be discretionally usedby their members for any perk they find suitable...

That surely must include our beloved penguins..., don't ya Think...?

It's always the old adage Mr. Think...“why get a dog and bark yourself”...
Why use your own money when there is always some fool that will give you theirs...
    ...and when I say theirs...it usually isn't...

Why not apply to get the money from the 'Official Governor of the Makvinas', I am sure the T del F Province would gladly supply the cash, they are always bleating about being included.

Brilliant idea expressed by the above poster...

We Argies will luuuuuuuuv to finance the upcoming MPCP (Malvinas Penguin Conservation Programme)
And we have already the perfectly suited Engrish speaking candidate for leading it...:
Mr. Mike Bingham... (Who can be seen in the following video interacting recently with an international group of penguin experts at the southern coast of Argentina) ...:
