The General Assembly on Friday elected 18 States to the Human Rights Council, the United Nations body responsible for promoting and protecting all human rights around the globe, among which Uruguay and Argentina. Read full article
Let's hope that the Argentines comply with this agreement fully and let the Falkland Islanders have the same human rights as per their opening statement the United Nations body responsible for promoting and protecting all human rights around the globe Bet they won't agree to that part of the human rights agreement in the UN.
They could start by denouncing their repeated claim to our sovereignty and accept our rights to live under the sovereignty of our choosing.
I think Argentina is more in compliance with human rights than even the UK. Argentina is one of the few nations that took to court its own citizens (dictators) for crimes against humanity. May be the UK should do the same with thatcher that supported appartheid and Pinochet. Or Blair that invaded a sovereign nation invoking they were in possesion of prohibit weapons of mass destruction killing millons of innocent civilians in the process and without finding anything remotely simmilar to those kind of weapons.
Perhaps Liberato might first consider that it would far more correct for Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner to be prosecuted and incarcerated for the murder of Argentine special prosecutor Alberto Nisman.
Chicureo, may be. But it has not been proven yet that she killed him. The rumour that a venezuelan-mapuche-Iranian comando team, at orders from Kirchner killed him, is still a funny rumour.
But Thatcher did indeed supported pinochet and South African apartheid and the old gang of anti communist dictatorships. And Blair did invaded Iraq for having weapons of mass destruction that were never found.
I remember how many british citizens claimed that the weapons were moved by Saddam in trucks from one place to another. Well Saddam was hung. And Blair? richest as ever.
Blair was just a poodle of Bush...blame the organ grinder not the monkey...
Saddam was hung by his own people...if he was such a benevolent respected leader that wouldn't have happened...
It absolutely boggles the mind that you would condemn Dame Thatcher's involvement with Chile and overlook the Argentine dirty war that was responsible for the disappearance of over 30,000 people. If you want to discuss human rights abuses, you only need to look at the brutal thugs responsible for invading a peaceful small community and see how ridiculous your idiotic comments are.
Liberato, It would require a higher court than we've got to prosecute Thatcher now; she died in 2013. And Voice is quite correct about Blair (and Saddam), but I don't think it absolves the former of guilt. Blair was responsible to the British people, not to Bush, and should have made his own decision.
@Chicureo
Baroness Thatcher, if you please. And Liberato is not overlooking the dirty war, he was praising Argentina for prosecuting those involved.
My sincere apologies for omitting the Baroness title.
Despite errors made in the past by the UK, they should not be accused of human rights violations in context of what's happened worldwide.
Chicureo there is no error. It is genocide. And the same goes for the dictatorships in Latin America that wanted to be covered by the context of whats happened worldwide. They commited crimes against humanity too. Where are the disappeared from Iraq and Afghanistan that were taken for interrogation in secrets concentration camps around the world?.
About the islander talking about human rights. What kind of human rights the british consider to argentines that can not have any object with the argentine flag on it on Malvinas?.Never in history a recognised flag of a nation was prohibited anywhere. You live in a feudal government where the income comes at the expense of Argentina zee and the FIH. the rest of islanders are cattle for the crown that got indoctrinated to believe they do not live on South America, but in the middle of the south atlantic.
10 territories under a colonial situation exist nowadays under british colonialism according to the United Nations. One of those territories are the Malvinas Islands. Where is the british cooperation to eliminate colonialism in all its forms?.
Saddam was hung yes by its own people. After suspiciously five of his consecutive lawers were killed. Is that your definition of a fair trial?.
Let's be honest, you're trying to disguise your strong prejudices against the Falklands Islanders maintaining their independence from being controlled by a kleptomaniac, unstable, corrupt and bipolar Latin American government that thrives on chaos. I've lived next door to them my entire life and although I have great friends there, I certainly wouldn't want them to run my government.
Don't get me wrong, I'm against human rights violations, I'm very supportive of true democratic societies striving for justice and certainly we all can agree people have the human right for maintaining their historical independence.
As far as Middle East justice... it really does not exist... does it?
