Idiot on the bbc argued that a continuation of communist corruption is preferable to the lawful election of Bolsonaro and prosecution of grafting thieves.

    Makes sense to me.

Brazilians have spoken strongly by giving Jair Bolsonaro an unprecedented victory at all levels of government.

No one, within Brazil or outside, can feign ignorance about what sort of candidate Bolsonaro was. He never hid his ideology and what he intends to do as president.

Whether yesterday’s election results could've been replicated in the absence of Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment and without Lula da Silva's incarceration, we’ll never know. However, the decisive role of the judiciary in Brazil contains an important warning for democracies around the world.

The rest of the world should not feel too complacent about yesterday’s election results. Brazil is a powerhouse of South America and the world’s fifth most populated country, and as a result the impacts of Bolsonaro's government will have sizable impacts well beyond Latin America.

Just as an example, the degradation of one of the world’s remaining lungs, Amazonia, is now poised to increase exponentially. The fate of this world heritage forest and that of its remaining indigenous peoples will be sealed by a man who never hid his contempt for minorities and for environment protection.

Brazil's new reality is no doubt a huge setback for the world and a confirmation that progress is not linear, but instead made out of advances and regressive actions.

Without disregarding the huge amounts of human suffering that will be inflicted, one fact is clear: By handing Bolsonaro ample latitude, Brazil becomes now a modern, large-scale showcase for what the extreme right can or can't do for a country.

Brazil will eventually emerge from this.

But yes, what Enrique Massot says must be true. After all, he lives in Canada and therefore he must somehow better understand the danger of the Brazilian electorate to abandon his Marxist-Leninist-Socialist brothers.

It would, but to corrupt it has to be be result of graft. Which in every instance has been instigated by a 'businessman' who has deep pockets.

There is a theory that if you place a monkey front of a typewriter, he'll eventually write something intelligible... Terrence proves this in his comment: “corrupt it has to be be result of graft...has been instigated by a 'businessman'...”

Of course, the corrupt politicians workers in tandem with corrupt business to plunder Brazil's wealth. Petrobras was only one example of many.

And it was not just the PT, but many of the political parties were guilty. Lula was just the head of the snake.

You better run Terrence, because Bolsonaro is going to send a hit squad to find you.

Teri, you espouse a theory of governance and economic organization that is universally acknowledged as failed.

Still hurting and licking your wounds?

What you forget to mention is that Glenn Greenwald absolutely hates Bolsonaro: because he's very well known for disliking people in the LBGTQ community. Greenwald is a very outspoken homosexual. Makes perfect sense why he's p*ssed off about his new freely democratically elected president.

If Bolsonario start violates the human rights of homosexuals, I'll be unhappy, but I doubt he's going to do that.

Despite being a small country with the majority of the populace having a political base oriented center-left to center right, we have a small minority of ultra leftists divided into a large number of what they describe themselves as adherents of Trotsky, others Lenin-Marx, and even those who fully embrace “traditional Communism.”

I personally know several ultra-far-left members who live in nice neighborhoods and have vacation apartments in Viña del Mar. Nobody really understands what they believe, and I suspect they themselves don't know.

I'm surprised you assumed I was an Atheist. “You don’t have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.” ~ C.S. Lewis

It probably wouldn't be politically correct to tell you why.

Anyway, I'm surprised you still have real communists in Chile. Do they hate each other more than right-wingers, like the stereotype says? It does seem pretty strange for a communist to buy a vacation apartment when other people don't have houses, but people are full of contradictions.

The hard core extreme left typically verbally violently fight with each other, but rarely getting physical. Chile is fairly peaceful.

You'd be surprised, but despite being on political opposite sides, the level of intense dislike is very low. I'm very conservative, but I enjoy the friendship of several Socialists. Saying that, most of my friends tend to be conservative.
